Great review on the Prime Pinnacles. The speakers sound really good and not to mention relaxing. I'm the running Prime Pinnacles, Ultra Center, Dual SB-3000s, Ultra Bookshelves and Prime Elevations. Nice sounding system for music and movies. I like the small footprint more then anything.

Why did you get these over the ultra towers? Anything specific...
@pooter4e5524 жыл бұрын
@@gregjones2472 I choose the Prime Pinnacles, because I don't have the correct space for the side woofers. Figured might as well get the Pinnacles, since it does 90 percent of what the ultras can. Ultras have that nice defining bass and extra push with the extra mid range driver. If you have the space grab the Ultra towers; however the Pinnacles are an amazing sounding speaker and have plenty of low end.

I agree completely. I heard the bookshelf version of that speaker and was completely blown away at how clean and detailed it was without being harsh. No exaggeration that it has pinpoint accuracy as well. On a test track with a choir in a church and I could hear the multiple individual rows of singers. It was completely nuts because I've never heard anything like that from anything low or high priced. This was the speakers hooked up to Canton's new Smart Amp 5.1 which is a simple plug and play class D unit. The least fancy front end one could imagine.

Hey Ron! I realize I'm late to the party, but there's a reason for it. Since SVS announced its new EVO line coming out soon, these Prime Pinnacles are on sale right now. I bought a pair about 6 weeks ago, and I haven't looked back since. I've been in the hobby almost 40 years, and can't count the amount of different components and speakers I've owned over the years, but I'll tell ya one thing. These puppies are going to be with me for a long while. I have a sensitivity for glary upper mids and treble in general, and you're totally right, the Pinnacles are smooooth. Not dark or lobbed off at the top, just easy going on the ears. I never in a hundred years would have thought that I would really like what I consider to be a HT speaker for my dedicated 2-ch rig, but I've really fallen for their sound signature and soundstaging prowess. Thank you SVS, and thank you Ron for this review. You know your stuff.

Your review was one of many I watched or read before buying a pair of SVS Prime Pinnacle, and only now half a year later, I really understand how positive you were about their voicing and sound, and I think you were right, and I am indeed happy with the speakers. I have paired them with NAD C 658/298 and a couple of Dali S1.2 subwoofers, despite I don't think I need the subwoofers for music. However, I live in an apartment and I try to show consideration to my neighbors by normally using the option to switch the sub bass off ( sub 60 Hz). Actually, I often use small computer loudspeakers or headphones for listening in the evening, but this is another story. Sorry that I got a bit sidetracked, I just wanted to say that now I can even better see that your review was a good help to make a good purchase. Thank you.

I have all 3 SVS current-gen speakers, the Ultra, Primes and the Prime Pinnacles. It's very odd to me how jarring these speakers actually sound despite SVS saying they timbre match each other, which they don't. Prime Bookshelfs/Towers - these are bright speakers, not Klipsch old RF series burn your ears bright, but it's up there. Primes can be borderline harsh especially when there are cymbals or female vocals. They sound very forward, too forward in fact that there seems to be lack of depth behind the speakers. When you listen to music with a band, it sounds like you're a foot away from them and it sounds fatiguing especially when the cymbals gets clapped on. The forwardness of the Primes are certainly fruitful for action movies though, I'll give them that. A real gun shot rings and startles you, the Primes does exactly that. I do not feel like the Primes are good speakers for music, but certainly they are fun for action orientated content like movies or video games. A side note regarding HT since I'm talking about movies, the Prime center is adequate but just like its Bookshelf and Tower cousins, hot damn listening to people who has a high pitch talk is like scratching on chalkboard. Ultra Bookshelfs/Towers - these are fairly neutral, still a tinge of top end push within the 4khz to 8khz range but unlike the Primes, will never be harsh. At high volumes, they can sound a little metallic still however and yes, they never truly disappear. But unlike the Primes, they don't just swing the way of action movies and nothing else. The Ultras can do just about anything and not sound terrible at it in one way or another. These are sweet spot speakers, but not exemplary in any situation. Prime Pinnacles - like you said, laid back and smooth. It's like SVS took the criticisms of the Primes to heart and just mellowed everything down, but if you ask me - they went down just a bit too far. The Ultras, as far as this aluminum dome tweeter and diffuser design goes is the sweet spot. Metal music really shows this difference, the Ultras are noticeably more energetic and just have a bit more air and detail where as the Pinnacles sound just kinda... boring. One other thing about the Pinnacles, I'd much rather they went with the same 5.25" driver on the below the tweeter instead of using the 6.5" driver here. Would have looked better and not much (if any) of a sacrifice for upper bass performance.

Hi Ben Tan do you mean Primes are bright like Klipsch RP series? When asked Joe n Tel said Prime, Ultras and RP600m top end are similar. I was interested in Prime LCR to replace my Wharfedale Diamond 220 for dialogue audibility. In India though are expensive than US but cheaper than RP series. I am attracted to their 3 way centre. I have SVS PB1000.
@BenTan894 жыл бұрын
@@sanonmars Not RP series, but the old RF series (the RF 6x series). The Klipsch RP are actually more well behaved and controlled than the Primes. The RP can still get bright, but never harsh. The Primes get bright and CAN be borderline harsh. There is also some distortion at around the 3-4khz range, due to cone break up. This is not a new phenomenon and SVS has fixed it in the Prime Pinnacles. You could get the Prime bookshelfs for the L/R but get the Ultra center for the center channel instead of the Prime center. Since L/R basically becomes a glorified effects channel the moment you add a center, they don't have to be Ultras unless you're doing multi-channel music or enjoy "multi-channel stereo mode".

@@BenTan89 for those reasons I went with the prime towers and ultra center. The center I love. The prime towers sound great for movies and kick well. But, for 2 channel I feel I am chasing the sound that I want based on music type. They do well with alot of synth based house music, but when rock sounds great at first, very forward but then gets fatigued after a while. I really wish I bought the ultra towers. Once ai really started to use my system the trail was up and it took me a while to really hear the speakers. The problem is mostly movies is that the ultra is so damn good at them that I did not really notice the prime towers. SvS would of course let me upgrade but the shipping back is around 3 to 400 which kills the return upgrade value. At some point I might just sell and buy. Where as in home audio 90-110w seems to be considered good power for towers that have 2-3 6.5inch drivers plus tweeters??
@davehilling3944 Жыл бұрын
not really noise floor is part of it car ambient noise can make more power necessary as well as doors not always being great for "cabinets" for the speakers. Personally I use 60-100w RMS on my surrounds, and an amp with 165W RMS on LCR. Also SVS speakers even though measured as 8 ohm can drop down to and under 4 at times meaning 100W@8 may become quite a bit more at times if the amp can handle it.

Quantity or extension? I don't like bass humps. I do like that my Genelec 8260 goes flat down to 20hz.

@@stevenswall In case you missed Ron's room treatment video, he could only reduce the bass nodes, not eliminate them. Dipole speakers like the Spatial and GR Research excite fewer nodes.

I’m doing to be very honest here. When people talk about speakers being flat, warm, harsh, smooth I just don’t get it lol. When I listen to speakers I either like them or I don’t

So these are like Definitive Tech bipolars? Those things have amazing amounts of low end, but it's really muddy. Good for watching Marvel movies, but not great for music.
