Awesome and informative video! I came here just to see what the inside looks like now I can upgrade my pack too. Awesome explanations as well!!

Actually, it will run 2.4amps through the heating elements UNTIL the unit hits a specified heat - That's what the thermistor is measuring. At high heat, it will run 2.4A through for a longer time to reach and maintain a higher heat level (with these tiny warmers, usually 40c-44c. There is a small microcontroller that monitors and controls the temp.

I bet the reason the one side was cooler is that the length of wire to it as that wire is far too small for such current. Change the battery, and the top lid, wires to the next gauge and watch what happens.
@vuaeco2 жыл бұрын
Very good point. But I don't think 2.5A has any big effects on these wires.

@@vuaeco From the video they looked like they were one size smaller than they should be when we know that both sides are using the same heating pads they should be the same temp. The only physical difference is those wires. Wouldn't hurt to see.

Yes. Over here "cold' means you can't comfortably wear shorts and T-shirt walking on the beach after sun down. We have low standard here when it comes to air temperature.

1. I wonder if/how much the original battery's capacity would improve with more charge/discharge cycles; it's probably been sitting in a warehouse for a year or five! 2. Maybe the heat difference from one side to the other was because you had it apart, and the hotter half had the battery and board insulating it. I suppose it doesn't matter if the halves are of identical output anyway once it's buttoned up, as the heat will naturally radiate from both halves roughly equally once both heating elements are heating the same airspace inside. Of course, I'd be interested to hear if you -- or, more importantly, your wife! -- feel a difference from one side to the other. Stay warm...in California! Yes, I'm laughing a bit again. 😁✊🇻🇳🛠

P.S. It's amazing how a bit of fancy paint makes steel look just like aluminum, eh? That's not a criticism, either. Steel is real!

1. That's a great question. When I received it, the battery was completely depleted (probably by phantom load). It took 4 hours to fully charge it. But it didn't perform as I expected. I didn't give it another chance to charge it back up and try again because I thought I would want a higher capacity anyway. You might be right. It might improve after a few cycles if I had given it a chance. I can always put it in my Opus charger to do some charge/discharge cycles to find out later though. 2. You're spot on about the uneven heating on both sides. I totally agree with your theory. I didn't tell my wife about the temperature difference but she does not notice that either, even up to now. Well, I don't know how you guys deal with the cold up there but down here it's still pretty "cold". Or maybe we're too spoiled! LOL

@@vuaeco Meh. We're all the same species, it's simply a matter of acclimatisation. A month ago, 5°C felt really cold to me! Today, after a couple of weeks of snowy bullshit, 5°C felt downright pleasant, even with 50 km/h wind. I joke about you in the California sunshine, but if I lived there, my perception of cold would become like yours has become. I should also add that my squat on Algonquin land is positively tropical compared to "up north", especially Nunavut and Nunavik!

The unit is controlled my a microcontroller reading the temp value from the thermistor. If the thermistor is far from the plate (as It is when he disassembled the device, for instance) the microcontroller thinks the temp is remaining low, and thus maintains full power to the heating elements. You're correct about the heat radiation though. I have one of these, much different brand, and both sides heat roughly equal (The side my hand is absorbing heat from cools down much faster, so rotating the unit in your hand is recommended!)
