I couldn't understand why someone would unsubscribe only because you hear someone's honest opinion about a book. There are so many books, not any of them could appeal to everyone.

It's so refreshing to hear a different perspective of this book. I love it when someone stands up and says they didn't enjoy a hyped book, I think it's so important! The comparison to The Fault in Our Stars makes me sceptical, so I might have to get this one read soon and see how it goes. :P

Hahahaha I love your channel so much because of your honesty, I know that when you recomend a book you're doing it because you honestly beleive it is a good one. I also like that you are not influenced by whats "hot now"in the reading community. It is refreshing to listen to someone who really enjoys quality reads.

Now I'm REALLY curious about this book. I appreciate your honesty. More than anything a negative review should make a book's appeal stronger, it almost creates a mystery behind one when it has mixed reviews.

I loved your review! I think the ultimate failing for me was the structure. This novel could have been successful, and I too see what she was going for in the structure, but it was difficult to invest in a relationship that we only get exposition about, and never get to see or feel for ourselves. I never got a sense of passion or real intimacy between the two characters, which is really what I want more than anything in a story about a relationship of any kind. I didn't feel any emotional intensity from any of the relationships, let alone the one that was supposed to be the emotional crux of the narrative. I think it's going to be pretty forgettable for me because I did not care about the characters.

It's consoling to find another reader out there who didn't love this book! I was quite enjoying it and found parts of the story to be very moving. Then, partway into the diary section, I felt Winman got really bossy about telling me the reader what everything meant. That really got my back up and pulled me completely out of the story so that the supposedly powerful, deeply moving ending left me absolutely cold.

Isn't it great that people can have such different opinions on the same book? I absolutely loved it, and it's going to be one of my favourites of 2017.

It was great to hear a different perspective on Tin Man, what with all the rave reviews everywhere. I do want to see what I think of this one, but I'll definitely curb my expectations. Also, I don't get people that unsubscribe because someone's opinions don't line up exactly with theirs - one of my favorite things about booktube is hearing different perspectives on books I may have loved.
@distilledlaw346 жыл бұрын
I'm currently reading Tin Man and it is difficult for me to like it due to how the story keep jumping around. I am spending more time trying to determine "where are we" in this story than I am actually following it. The story is very disjointed which makes it difficult to read.

Some really compared it with a less dark version of Call Me By Your Name. Is it?

I finished this book yesterday and I think it might be one of my favourite books of all time haha. What a shame you didn't enjoy it after it was so difficult to get a hold of! I hope the rest of your September reading is more fruitful for you.

Hi Juan, I came back to this review because I just read Tin Man and I had forgoten you read it, but then you mentioned it on your Gilmore Girls tag. Any way, I really like Tin Man, however I do agree with a lot the things you said. For me, it seems that the overall story just touched me. However the writing style took a lot to get used too, and it was so confusin in the beginning. I also did not feel so “bad” for the first character in the book. He kinda made me mad, but I can see what the other intended to show with the different characters. And it took me a few minutes to reailize what happened at the end, I am still assuming that they died in a car accident right? And then he found out that the guy had AIDS? Or de he not have it? Now that I think about it, I think I liked the overall story more than the actual book if you know what I mean.

Corners of a bookshelf I get what you mean! I might revisit this one just to check if I didn’t get along with the writing style or if the actual book itself.
@neenah73766 жыл бұрын
If you do I would love to hear what you think about it. I think the writing style is the main culprit.

I just finished this book, I enjoyed it but I agree with you, something went awry. It was sweet and melancholy, but I think the structure didn’t work for me...I gave it 4 Stars bc I liked the relationships and the settings.

Yikes! Juan!! I can't wait to read this book! Waiting for library to purchase it. Sorry you were disappointed. I loved The Clay Girl and you didn't like that, either! Lol It's all good!! I enjoy your reviews!! I would love to know your opinion of Rabbit Cake. You may enjoy the psychological aspect of it!! I'm reading it now and really enjoying it🐇

It's your fault you didn't like the book 😜 People are different there are heaps of books I love and other people don't. Like Release, Simon loved that I didn't get on with it. I really enjoyed Catcher in the Rye he hated it. I haven't read this myself yet but I like books which split people's opinions. So you kinda make me want to read it more even if you only gave it two stars (ouch!)

What a great review.... How refreshing to hear someone give an honest review differing from the status quo and aware of the possible consequences (which is rather silly to be honest with you). How boring to get the frequent cut and paste reviews of the same books you find so often on BT. I would think you should get additional subscribers not less. Well done!......ps, when should we expect another vocal performance from you? My request: Evita, Rent Or Avenue Q

Interesting. I have this book sitting next to me waiting to be picked up next. I bought it off of Mercedes' praise for it so it'll be interesting to see what my final thoughts on it will be. Also, your comment about Julia Roberts movies made me laugh. I know exactly what you meant.

I just finished the book and even though I cried my eyes out (well, I'm just too sentimental by nature) I can't say I liked it as much as I did with When God Was a Rabbit or even A Year of Marvellous Ways. Tin Man seemed too short to give the reader a chance to understand the characters well enough to feel enough sympathy. I was sooo hyped right after two other books by Sarah Winman. Of course it might be just my personal deceived expectations about the way this book should have ended.

Hola Juan! Me he venido corriendo a ver tu reseña después de leer tu comentario.

@MariaEntreLibros7 жыл бұрын
Hola Juan!

in some way i really like seeing such opposite opinions of a book by two people whose opinions i value. ie, you and simon...it's a confirmation that one person's medicine can be another person's poison...though not so extreme..lol... please don't ever hesitate to give your honest response to a book juan as you will diminish booktube by doing so...

Oops I feel bad now that you went to those lengths to get it and then you didn't love it. It's interesting to hear why though. That's what makes books so great. We can't all love the same books, hope this won't put you off any other books I love. Ha. Ps Why would someone unsubscribe because you didn't like a book. No normally book loving person is that crazy. Hahaha.

And I love you Juan so all is well in the world. Hahaha. I think book discussion and debate is brilliant. And we can't all like everything. I'm more likely to unsubscribe from someone who never has a bad word to say about a book than someone who can explain why they like some books and don't like others.
