I have a UT801 bench multimeter which cost thirty pounds, It is not auto ranging but it works well, I bought this meter about five years ago.I thought I had overpaid at thirty pounds. You are right about its only use is as a voltmeter. lol

Martin, I've posted a review of the Mastech M9803R as a video response, and while it's not nearly as professionally done as yours, it may give some insight into this low cost bench DMM. I haven't found any other reviews of the Mastech on KZbin.

+Simon Sven Troschke Thanks Simon. I was so unimpressed with the UT803 and the price point at the time that I did not do a part 2. I would not recommend it as a bench multimeter. Cheers, Martin.

Can you recommend another multimeter? I need to measure resistance in 0.01 resolution. so I need 2 decimal places. When you were measuring 100 ohms. it only showed 100.1 ohms. Can it show 100.01 or 50.03 ohms?

Quick note: @8:27 in the video you say "D cell batteries" when in fact UM-2 (as indicated on the battery cover) are C cells. Otherwise a great review, as usual. Thanks for sharing. You probably saved someone from spending money on this really slow and crappy multimeter.

Yet another great review, its a shame the product didn't impress. I was looking at some Extech DMM's recently and stumbled across the "CT40". A you familiar with it? It can "remotely" monitor up to 16 electrical lines that are from 5 to 16 volts DC. Its only $100 (USA) for both the Sender and Receiver. Sounds like it may be useful for keeping an eye on the health of Solar Panels that are mounted out of the way. Might be worth a look. Anyway, thanks again for such a great in depth review.

Great review Martin, looking forward to part 2. I'll fess up right away, I bought one of these over a year ago based on the published specs. Of course I've since discovered the various drawbacks you've highlighted. In my case it's not such a disaster since most of my work is on period tube based electronics and I just wanted a bench meter with a nice clear display. That cover over the storage compartment drove me nuts however so I had to abandon that altogether!

Hi mjlorton, I bought the same Bench top meter, But got a problem with the Hz reading(for now). the measured value is fluctuating and giving a false reading, it's way too high(6000KHz) than my Fluke DMM(60Hz). Do you have any idea on How do I calibrate this meter?

oh John , there is something called 4 wire measurements when ppl dont know what it is , but its resistance measurements using voltage across it and known current , that is what bench top is made for , something more then 2 wire measurement , there are other things but basically that is what bench top does , its not that this is bad , its more then bad , its not what it claims to be , its a lie , fools buy this

This guy just didnt want to like this meter , I know its not great but its £60 now . Also the fuses are for current protection not voltage and the batteries are c cells not d cells . If you dont have a lot of cash and you arent measuing anything where you need a high amount of accuracy , there is nothing wrong with this meter .

i do not like this dmm. I hate the auto power off funcion that is active when the dmm is connecte to mains.auto off is the most stupid and boring function on the earth into a mains supplied bench dmm.
@arierol251811 жыл бұрын
First thing i notice when you do measure on youre so called ref resistor and voltage PCB that its not accurate,the claimed 0,2% resistors are bend on the leads this makes the given value other specs.Than the voltage is not accurate couse you dont do this in a lab, so fluctuations in the powerline cant give strait measurements even if you use the lab power unit.You use the so called callibrated PCB in a room full of equipment near a power socket.I did see the Fluke test also and noticed also on time delay and it is near the same time delay with this machine,but you dont say a thing on the Fluke! If you want to do real measurements please do it propper and dont blame the Multimeter if youre not set up to real testing.If you want to do measures next time find some Mill spec or FAA spec than you can see the outcome on comercial equipment that is used and not by a home brew PCB.

@RobB_VK6ES11 жыл бұрын
Martin you are looking at this from the wrong angle. It's not a bench meter rather more like a bin meter. with that much screen real estate a dual display should be a given. UniT should supply a third probe just so you don't have to keep swapping inputs. A UT61E in a big box would be better than this steaming turd. Oh and it's "super mega fugly" ( google Kevin Bloody Wilson )
