saw DSLR Shooter's recommendation of this product which led me here... I will definitely make a video on it soon! The applications for my "niche" are clear to me!

I'm about to do an experiment of my own to take advantage of 32bit float using the tentacle sync system. I'll be testing the MKH-416 running into the XVIVE P1, then running into a female to female XLR adapter, then XLR to 3.5 into the Tentacle sync track E lav pack. Hopefully, we get some good results

Is the phantom power still present when inserted in to the camera ? I’m looking for awhile how to use a phantom powered microphone with my Sony pcm m10 , mic trs input pip can be switched off.
@GregJDaigle3 жыл бұрын
Nope! The unit only sends Phantom Power up to the microphone. Everything after this unit in the signal chain is safe from power.

I have a XVive P1 and my levels are about 8 dB lower throu it than when using my F6's inbuilt Phantom power. I used this as a test as I want to use the P1 for my MKH418S MS microphone with my Pocket 4K with only one XLR input (MS requiring precise gain control). Can you confirm the drop in volume through the P1? Note it is already the second unit with this behavior, the first one I returned due to this behavior as defective.
@GregJDaigle3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting... I didn't pickup in that while I was testing it. Just to cover all bases, the XVIVE is set to 48v and not 24, correct?

@@GregJDaigle yes, it is. I will test again more thoroughly soon

can you use it to power a recorder as well? is there a USB out that you can run into a recorder?
@GregJDaigle3 жыл бұрын
The only power output on this is phantom power, so you might want to look at 5v battery banks!

"not usable" ... totally usable depending on application, especially with fft or machine-learning driven noise reduction.

Cables aren't balanced/unbalanced, signals are.
@GregJDaigle4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! That is 100% true. However, it is important to specify in regards to the function of the adapter at hand, as it is not a normal XLR to TRS cable despite the fact that it looks like one from the outside. In regards to the 1/8 mic inputs on most cameras/camcorders, they don’t have transformers, and therefore are looking for a Stereo/ “Dual Mono” signal and not a the balanced signal that you would get from the Phantom Power unit. Using a typical XLR to TRS would cause one of the channels to be flipped, so in this case, it’s important to note that it is essentially an “XLR to TRS 3.5mm with both T&R being contacts for XLR pin 2”, which can more concisely be described by including the function of “Balanced XLR to unbalanced dual mono”.
@joshuamull18674 жыл бұрын
Do you think the P1 can be used in conjunction with the Xvive U3 wireless XLR system? So that you could use a condensor headset mic wirelessly (basically, like the U3C)?
@GregJDaigle4 жыл бұрын
@@joshuamull1867 If the mic on the headset is a Large/small diagram and is 24v or 48v, it would probably work quite well! I would be hesitant if the headset you have in mind is an electret mic, as even the 24v of phantom power is exponentially more than it needs. It shouldn't hurt it in theory, but it might not be worth the risk.
@joshuamull18674 жыл бұрын
@@GregJDaigle currently I'm using a Shure WH20 (dynamic headset mic) with and Xvive U3 in my busking setup. However, I also have a Shure SM35-XLR (condensor headset mic, requires 48V phantom power) that I'd like to use instead. I don't think the P1 would "hurt" the U3C and getting a $50 P1 is a lot easier than a $220 U3C.
@GregJDaigle4 жыл бұрын
@@joshuamull1867 That should work! The P1 won't send a charge to anything after it in the signal chain, so I wouldn't worry about the U3. I'm not sure how long you typically busk, but you'd probably get more overall battery life from using the P1 & U3 anyway, rather than the U3C. 48v can drain those things pretty fast.
