I own the 602 as well, and the camera shutter trigger option does work for the XSI (450D). I can do a half press on the transmitter and the camera will auto focus, and it triggers when fully pressed. I can also use it for timed exposure, either by the camera's built in timer, or by setting the camera to manual/bulb and holding the wireless trigger button down for the length of time I want the shutter to be open for. It's a great little affordable package.

I faithfully watch your video reviews. They are excellent and I really appreciate your dedication in doing them. The viewer comments too are useful (well, most of them, a few are just silly) and they provide a well rounded understanding of the product. You have won my highest award, a cold beer, which I accidentally drank, sorry but if you are ever in Toronto drop me a message and I will buy you one.

Hi video Phil. I know its from 2010, but it has still helped me as I begin my new photography endeavor. I have the Yongnuo RF-602 RX with an RF-600TX Wireless Controller/Sender. I tried it as a Wireless Shutter Release setup (like you show on your video) on my Canon EOS 7D and to my surprise it actually did work! I was thrilled especially after hearing on your video that it did not work - mine actually did and consistently. I did however notice that your Transmitter was not an RF-600TX.

very nice review. as for wireless shutter, it has been working 100% for me so I was surprised you were not successful with yours. one feature i did not notice mentioned on your review is the ability to wake up flashes when in standby mode. it is one great feature i really really like about these 'cheap' triggers.

I bought these about 2 years ago. After 1 year of using them as a shutter release they began failing more often than they would work. I have just seen this video and thought I would give them a try as flash triggers and they have worked every time. I was just about to fork out £130 for a Pocket Wizard too!

I use the remote shutter trigger too and it works great. I'm very happy with mine. Another con to these is that there is no promise of future models being backward compatible. If I'd like to get more receivers after this model is discontinued, there's no guarantee later models will work with the current ones.

WOW, thank you so much for the review, now I feel so much better about my Yongnuo set. I never had any problems with them (even using them as a remote shutter trigger works fine for me), they even work great with my Speedotron lights. Never had a misfire, and thanks to this video I won't buy PW, and spend my money on something more useful....that Sigma 85 1.4 is looking rather nice...

There's a reason for the question. Not all Canon-compatible gear will work with a lot of these triggers; it depends upon whether or not the center (main) pin of the hotshoe is used. The trigger will work with the Rebel XT (350D), but it wouldn't work with the 300D or the 10D. And it may not work with some third-party eTTL flashes (Nissin 622 & 466, Sunpak PZ42x & 30, Sigma 530 & 500) since they use one of the smaller system pins to fire, but there should be no trouble with Canon-brand flash.

Thank you so much for this review. I was looking at the Radiopopper Nano, but they don't have any other extra features better than the Yongnuo (except better packaging) that are worth the extra money; in fact $110 dollars less. Thanks again! I also subscribe to your vids! Look forward to seeing more reviews.

400D, 5DM2 both worked for me. The plasticky cold shoe is a bit of a weakness, BUT if anyone's gonna use the trigger, on a budget, would also get the budget speedlite flash mount, where the slot is actually clamped in by a side piece much like a winch as opposed to those which uses a jam-bolting type.
@prpctech0414 жыл бұрын
I can attest that the wireless shutter release part of the RF-602 release works fine on my 50D. I got some local fireworks shots done (used it in Bulb mode) and it held up pretty good for $40. It sure bets the price of Canon brand remote control for 50D.

Hi Phil, I am wondering if you experienced the longer recycle time of the flash when you hook up with the yong nuo wireless flash trigger in your 602? I got their updated version of RF603. but i experienced that the recycle time take longer (like about 10 to 15 sec) vs i just mounted my EX430 II on the hotshoe of my t2i? When the flash is mounted on my t2i, it is no problem..but when it is mounted on the RF603, the recycle time will take longer..... :(

Hi Phil, I am an amateur photographer and just started to learn the ropes of photography. I have a canon mark II 5d and a 580ex flash. I bought a youngnuo flash trigger but for some reason, when I tried using it, I always come up with an overexposed image (white). What do you recommend my flash setting should be (i.e. ETTL, Manual, etc...) Do I need to adjust my flash (mounted on a stand) as the master or slave? Any advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks, Jay
@evgeneiac12 жыл бұрын
Found your answer: without ETTL, you need to adjust the flash output on the back of the flash unit, not on-camera. Any on-camera flash adjustment setting will be ignored.

@waggygee Your Canon 7D ( and 60D ) have a wireless flash control built in to the camera. It operates very much the same as the Nikon wireless system. It is IR though and not a radio signal so you won`t get these ranges and they might not be as reliable in very sunny weather but it WILL control the ETTL function of the flash whereas these Yongnuo do not and that is a big bonus over these. In doors the Canon wireless from the 7D or 60D will work fine within range. READ your instruction manual

@Phoenix48755910 жыл бұрын
canon and yongnou do not talk to each other for line of sight capability so you would need to buy the RF-603's to attach to EACH flash that that they talk to each other via radio trigger. these work great and are much cheaper than pocket wizards and more reliable than line of sight that canon triggers use and has the added bonus of having hotshoe connectivity so they are easy to take on and off and mount to a light stand.

One thing I found about them... If I bounce the flash (580ex or Sigma 530 DG Super) off the ceiling at home, the sync speed falls down to 1/200th from 1/250th with my EOS 30D - there is a tiny bit of feathered blackness visible on bottom of the frame - not as much if it was 1/320th, but noticeable!
