Outdoor Vitals set out to create a truly Ultralight pair of pants. And The NEW Satu Adventure Pants aren't just that, they're also THE BEST pants I own!
These Products are on sale JUST in time for Christmas:
- Dragon Wool: geni.us/DragonWool
- Satu Adventure Pants: geni.us/SatuAdventurePants
For the past 5 months I've been rigorously testing the newest product from Outdoor Vitals: their new hiking, backpacking, adventuring (but also every-day-life-ing) Satu adventure pants. When I started testing them out I had no idea that they would quickly become, not only my favourite, and now got-to, adventure hiking pant, but my favourite pair of pants period! They're warmer than I expected, lighter than I expected, more durable than I expected, and more my favourite than I expected! I estimate that over the past 5 months I've worn these for OVER 100 days. To this point there are no signs of wear or distress; they look and feel great!
Seriously! I love these pants. If you have any questions that aren't covered in the review let me know in the comments (or DM me on instagram)! What are your go to adventure pants? Let me know below!

I used to think I liked lots of pockets. Then I realized I really only use one or two anyways. Personally, I've never wished I had more pockets with these pants... yet (we'll see how that holds up in the summer!) But I totally get where you're coming from. I had to cut out an entire section (because I felt it went on too long) of me talking about how I used to think I'd NEVER wear a pair of adventure pants that weren't zip-offs. But I've been won over there too. haha What pants do you adventure in?

Alee H then THESE are for you! Seriously they’ve really impressed me. It’s funny, in that video Tayson talks about his wife making comments about looking like a hiker all the time and that was 200% me at work when I was wearing my hiking zip-offs. And my co-workers always calked me out. One even said I looked “frumpy” lol. But they all agreed these are way nicer. I’d love if they were a BIT of a tighter fit, but I can’t tell if that’s just me having lost 30lbs or not. To me, these are the ideal travel, work, adventure pant! If I could get these in black and a “slim fit” cut they’d be the only pants in my wardrobe! Haha I’m ranting again aren’t I? But I just love these pants. Lol (AND Ps. If you buy them through my link Kickstarter gives me a “kick back” for supporting small companies!... so if you do decide to give them a go, feel free to support the channel if you like! 😄)

Thank you for the great review. One question: what is the fit like? I'm fairly slim and tall and I hate baggy pants that I swim in (especially at the ankle). I don't care for skinny jean tight, but I go for slim and like when it's tapered to the ankle
@BackcountryForward
@BackcountryForward 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! (Sorry for the delay, youtube hasn't been sending me comment notifications!) They don't have a tapered cut. They are a straight leg, so the ankles do have some extra space (for putting over boots etc.). That being said, I find the overall cut to be a bit more on the thinner side (it's big on me now after losing 35lbs). Put it this way, I usually where slim or even skinny jeans, and I don't feel like I'm "swimming" in them. But they definitely are looser than my usual (skinnier fitting) pants. Hope that helps!

So they don't shed water well? It says on the kickstarter that they are water resistant. Might you have had a pre DWR model, or are they overpromising and underdelivering?
@BackcountryForward
@BackcountryForward 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! So, as I'm sure you know, all DWR fabrics lose that treatment after repetitive washings. Since I've been wearing these 4-6 days a week for 21 weeks, they've seen a lot of washing. The DWR treatment was much better at the beginning than it is now. Now, if I spill water on my pants most of it will still bead off. But, if I'm standing by a mist (filling a water bucket for example) the droplets will hit the pants and some will absorb. And the nature of the fabric (excluding the DWR treatment, which is now surely entirely gone on my pants) is that they absorb a fair amount of water, but then dry very fast. That all being said: even at the beginning I noticed that it seems the DWR treatment was trying to prevent the fabric from doing what it "wanted" to do (absorb). The DWR worked for only so long, or for so much water spray. After that the pants started to absorb water. However, I do intend to treat my pants again with DWR before my usual summer adventures, which should make them more resistant (that's the plus of DWR it's easy and cheap to re-treat). Summary: they are NOT water proof. They are not even highly water resistant (ie. don't wear them in the rain and expect to stay dry). But they do resist immediate contact with water. A spill will almost entirely "fall" off my pants (even still after many washes). A little splash from the sink and they're fine. But if they have the chance to absorb, they will absorb (rubbing water in, standing water on the pants including droplets, walking through deep puddles). BUT, they do dry very fast (much faster than you'd expect with how much water they absorb). My absorption comment was more directed at weight. A hiker will have much heavier pants by the end of a rainy day because they absorb so much water. Where as nylon just doesn't carry as much. I really should have clarified things a bit more! I hope that makes more sense! Feel free to ask me more questions if you have any. Keep Moving Forward.

Wow great review, you don't make it easy on a wallet. I have several OV pieces and have really been looking at these pants. I have 2 concerns pricing and more importantly pant leg alteration. Does it appear that the pant legs can be shortened. I wear 42 waist and 29 length. I have not reached out to OV. Thanks again for your great and informative videos. Take Care

I have some Questions since they supoort you, and a lot of stuff on kickstarter is just overpriced trash when you compare the items to items of well known companies. So my Questions are: Are they really durable when you hit with the pants against some bushes or thorns. Second, is all my hiking pants had the cooling zipper inside the legs so do tehy reslly cool when they fit nsrrow to your leg. Third: Is the built in Belt removable? Because it looks very inconvenient to wear a Belt over it. Thank you for Answering im searching for new Pants but im very carefully with kickstarter projects since i supported a lot and 60% was shit.
@BackcountryForward
@BackcountryForward 4 жыл бұрын
Totally great questions! I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences with Kickstarter stuff... to be honest I've never bought anything on there before. What I can say is that these pants are very durable. I'd have zero concern with bushes, branches, or even rocks cutting them (to a point of course, any pant can tear if the rocks are sharp enough). As for the cooling side vents, I have to admit, I haven't used this feature a ton yet because its been winter while I've been testing these. I have, however, used the feature indoors on a few occasions to "test it out" and I can definitely feel a significant draft come in to cool my legs. Two things to note about this: 1) the vent really opens up. The mesh inside is 3-4 inches of fabric so its not a small little "slit" they actually sort of make the pant "catch the breeze". 2) its long. It goes down to just above the knee. So even though it might be closer to your skin by your thighs, there's a lot of extra room by the knees for air to circulate. And in general the pants aren't very tight so there's lots of airflow with them open. But that's all just from my testing indoors and on cool days outside. I haven't tried them in 75 plus degree weather. As for the belt: No its not designed to be removable without having to cut it. But, it sits quite flat and unless your regular belt is pulled REALLY tight you can't feel it at all. Lastly, just so you know, I don't actually have any partnership with Outdoor Vitals. They merely asked me to test these pants and get back to them (I did and they took a few of my suggestions). After that they let me know that they'd release them this month and that if I wanted to post a review it might be helpful and they might share it. My review is based solely on my opinions and findings with the pants, and on how much I love them! :D That being said, through kickbooster (not Outdoor Vitals), if you buy the pants because you found my review helpful I get a small commission at no extra cost to you! This helps me be able to keep buying and testing other great (and not so great) products!
