What a seriously cool piece of kit!
The Rentech 750 PPS is a portable power supply from Energy Independence.
Over the past 3 months we got to test out this camping must-have extensively, and we were surprised every time!
This little lightweight unit is ideal for home uses, camping uses, and overlanding aswell.
Here's what we were able to power:
Power Tools, Pattio Lights, 65 Inch LED TV, 75 Inch OLED TV, Wifi Router, DSTV, Laptops, Computers, Camping Lights, Compressors, Xbox, Play Stations, Mobile phones, Power Banks - you name it!
The only gear and gadgets you cant power are basically Kettles, Air-Conditioners and Ovens. Because these items demand a huge load of electricity.
It is important to note that we have tried a plethora of previous lithium ion battery packs in our past, but none have performed as well under pressure as this Rentech Unit.
We were successfully able to power our 90L National Luna fridge freezer and have it run continuously for about 4 days. Temperature set to 0. In addition to this we were able to run our 50L Snomaster fridge freezer for around 4 days too - temperature set to -26 degrees. The Snomaster was extremely energy efficient only utilizing 1.0A.
for more on our fridge tests, please follow this link:

The Rentech Portable Power Supply is available in 3 different models. namely the 450, 620 and the 750 each with varying ability however the best performer was the 750.
Retail prices may vary between R 8000 and R 10 000, however if you click on the article link - you can liaise with the retailer directly as some models can be supplied with plug and play solar panels for complete off the grid camping.
further information and tests we did on the Rentech 750 PPS can be found on this link below:

No problem Neo. We purchased one of these units and have not looked back since. The reason we feel this is a better performer is because of the 786 W/h lithium battery. it can handle more loads than some of the other models on the market. Plus - this unit is the most affordable.😀 You can click on this link to enquire how to order your own: www.sa4x4.co.za/rentechs-pps750-lithium-ion-portable-power-supply-launches-in-south-africa/

I bought mine with a 100W solar panel at the recent Caravan Show, and had to use it with the loadshedding. Was really surprised with how easy it is to use. Love the quick charge USB slot. Still need to put it through its full paces, but happy so far.

Thanks Thea, yeah its an amazing little unit! We used our to power our National Luna 90L dual fridge Freezer, Sno Master 85L and SnoMaster 55w fridge/Freezer when touring. Plus at home we used it for our patio lights, TV and fishing rod light. Infact stay tuned to our channel, we've got another great product release coming soon that compliments this Rentech very nicely! :D Thanks for messaging us and letting the other users know how great your personal experience has been.

Thanks for such a comprehensive deep-dive of this unit - great work! It looks to tick all the boxes for offsetting some of the pain of load-shedding but am I correct in saying that the display does not provide much information? Most importantly doesn't show how many watts are being used, percentage of battery remaining, or how long in time left to recharge?
@CaravanOutdoorLife
@CaravanOutdoorLife Жыл бұрын
Hi Vaughan. Thank you for the compliment. You are most welcome. 😄 The LCD display of the Rentech PPS 750 only shows you how many power cells are remaining on the PPS (5/5), and which outputs are drawing power. Plus, it gives you the control for selecting AC output: Yes/No. it may be a bit oversimplified (basic) for the more experienced user. However these units were designed for users of all ages and competencies which is probably why they have not provided such detailed information. We guess the manufacturers chose to keep it simple. The most important statistic that we chose to focus on was the 786 W/H Li-on battery. Which was the highest in its class for the most affordable price. Perhaps it may be worthwhile for you to watch our Snomaster SMDZ-LS55 review. We extensively used and tested the Rentech PPS 750 with it over a few days. Plus there are some good close up pictures and video for you to see too.: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGa8hWiVpNR7jas Enjoy!🤓🤓

what is the solar port called (the barrel connector) from the red/black plug on one end. Do you know the size of the port or what the barrel is called.
@SA4x4online
@SA4x4online Жыл бұрын
Ah! its called a solar connector. Very similar to an Anderson connector/adaptor for 12v battery boxes but it is used only for solar. However, we must advise against making your own connections to these types of branded PPS ( Portable Power Supplies). as they are designed to handle only a specific wattage/voltage input. eg, if you decided to add your own 400w panel to the Rentech ( or any other PPS), you would likely blow the onboard inverter. Typically these PPS are designed to work with a specific panel voltage input as specified and tested by the manufacturer. Thus we would recommend using only the panels that are available in the Rentech kit. Of course you're free to do as you will, but make sure you read the disclaimer when doing so as it may void your warranty or cause self injury. to answer your question in the very beginning. yes, its called a solar connector. and you should be able to get the from any of your nearest solar business. They come in small (usually for 100w panels or less), medium ( for panels 100w-400w) and large (for industrial uses) sizes. 😉 please feel free to contact the supplier directly on the link in the video description if you want to ask something more technical. Rentech South Africa are always willing to help.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the message. at the time there was only one solar panel option available, although this supplier now offers two variants. They can either offer a 100W poly PV panel or you can upgrade to a 120W mono crystal Foldable PV Panel promotion. Our advice, choose the 120W panel. the recharge is faster. 😀

Hi Susanna, Thank you for giving us a description of your intended use. We think in your specific circumstances, you'll need a UPS ( uninterrupted Power Supply) with a large inverter and a few Lithium Ion Batteries. The reason you need a large scale inverter is to make the power output of your batteries strong enough to power all those devices you mentioned simultaneously. The Rentech PPS 750 is not a UPS. its a portable power supply. Which is great at powering one or two devices in different locations. The solution you require wont be very portable, but portable enough to wheel around. And given that you're seeking to power a few heavy appliances ( the conveyer belt being the biggest consumer of your power consumption items) a custom solution would be better for you. Rentech do offer a range of custom solutions. if you get in touch with them on this link directly, www.sa4x4.co.za/rentechs-pps750-lithium-ion-portable-power-supply-launches-in-south-africa/ Simply state what you need to power, and a member of their team shall respond directly with their wheel box options for you. It wont be as cost effective as the Rentech 750, but it will be cheaper than a home solar installation. Thus, the Rentech 750 is an affordable and portable easy solution for all, However they also manufacture custom solutions for clients too. Their Wheel Boxes can accommodate many batteries and bigger household inverters. We hope that helps you! 👍👍👍

Hi Sravan. ABSOLUTELY! its been a true life safer and god send! it can power your laptop or PC throughout the day. and still power your 65 inch TV at night. you can recharge it from flat to full power in about 4-6 hours. charging off AC is quicker then 12v.

@SA4x4online
@SA4x4online Жыл бұрын
Hi Bashir, no no, this is not a UPS. UPS is for Uninterrupted Power Supply. Which means when the power goes out, a UPS kicks in. A Rentech is a PPS - Portable Power Supply. Meaning that you have reserve power when you switch the unit on. UPS's and PPS's have different uses. Traditionally PPS's last longer than UPS's but it does depend on device care. if that helps you.

Hello, is it possible to use the PPs to power a ups during load shedding if the ups draws less then 500W
@SA4x4online
@SA4x4online Жыл бұрын
Hi Stu, you need to familiarize yourself with Watts and Amps. Here is a brief Explanation: An amp is the measure of the amount of current or electrical energy that is passing through an electric line whereas a watt is the unit for measuring electrical power, and it is calculated by multiplying the voltage (volts) of a particular source of electricity and the current (amps) being used by an appliance. In short, yes the Rentech PPS should be able to to put power back into your UPS however, it is unknown how much power is leaving your UPS at ang given time. For example, you might be drawing more power out of your UPS than what the Rentech can replace. What appliance are you attempting to power with your UPS? and what are the watts needed to run it?

@SA4x4online
@SA4x4online 5 ай бұрын
@@yiyolonto That's a tricky one. if your PA system is 150W then you would need a 1.5 Kwh ( kilo-what hour) battery source. We believe the Rentech is a 786 What Hour Capacity - which may not be sufficient to power your PA system. The best solution/Advice would be for you to reach out to the promoter directly for an in-depth chat. Simply click in this link and send the manufacturer a message - they will be able to respond to you directly www.sa4x4.co.za/rentechs-pps750-lithium-ion-portable-power-supply-launches-in-south-africa/ We hope that helps. if not, then you would need a more costly PPS.

How long goes it take to charge off the car?
@SA4x4online
@SA4x4online Жыл бұрын
12v Cigarette plug points can vary somewhat depending on how many devices are charging off your vehicle battery while in motion. Remember, your car battery is stored energy, with the alternator putting electricity back into the battery as you drive. Having the vehicle stationary (idling) doesn't put much energy back into your car battery. and if you have children and spouses each with their ipads, iphones and laptops plugged into your vehicle's battery for power - it could take longer. For us, with only the Rentech plugged into the car 12V was about 4-6 hours on a trip from Cape Town to Mosselbay. Does that help? Obviously recharging over AC ( house power) would be a lot faster. But we suspect you may know this already.😃

@@sammamabolo2835 Correct, 4-6 hours and our average speed was 105 Km/h for the entire journey. Most of the time we travelled the speed limit of 120Km/h but going through some towns, it drops right down to 60Km/h. Plus, a word to the wise...there are plenty of speed cameras along the garden route these days. Mainly at Caledon, Swellendam, Heidelberg, Riversdale, Albertinia, entering Mosselbay and Hartenbos. ( most 100km and 80Km Zones) Thus we strongly recommend sticking to the speed limits and knowing what they are at all times. 😀 Remember, the goal is to arrive alive. Not flustered and stressed.🤣🤣

@@SA4x4online I Guess charging the PPS with the Cigarette plug won't work in town. I bought my PPS 750 yesterday and today I tried to power up my household fridge. On top of loadshedding there was a power failure at my house due to a breaker that packed up (80A 3phase on the minisub, according to the electrician). After about 10 minutes of operation, the PPS would trip under overload. I switched off all other loads and left the fridge on but it would still trip under overload. Maybe I should check the operating data of my fridge to see if the PPS can carry that load..... Note to @SA4X4, Maybe you guys can do a series of THINGS NOT TO DO WHEN (camping, using PPS, towing trailers, etc). - that would be fun

@@sammamabolo2835 AHA. Thanks for the comment Sam. You are correct. the Rentech can power items up to 500W. (2500w surge power) and we have a sneaking suspicion that your fridge either might be faulty or require more power than what the Rentech can supply. Especially so if its a double door fridge or a very old model fridge. Remember, things that use the most power consumption are heating devices and cooling devices. Therefore dont use your Rentech for Microwaves, kettles, geysers, ovens, aircons or Ice makers. You should be able to check the back of any appliance to see how much power is required. You may need to google your device, and read the product descriptions. Our Rentech has worked on all the travel fridges we have tested - probably because the travel fridges we test all have 12vDC availabilities. Where your home based fridge may not have 12vDC. Other than that, you can power your TV, DSTV, Computer, Travel Fridge, most LED lights and a range of things that are ideally suited for camping, Caravanning and overlanding. In our Home ( when load shedding occurs) we use it to power our WIFI so that we can watch Netflix on a 65 inch TV, with a LED bedside lamp. We keep the fridge doors closed to keep our edibles fresh and cool. In some areas of Gauteng, they loose power for 8 hours at a time, and thus you may need a more permanent solution and a much bigger inverter. We hope this helps!
