SolGear (the company) is up for sale. That bag may not be available for long. River Station has a new design that’s pretty unique.

Could you share a bit about why you like having the carabiner pre-attached to the bag? I just got a salamander “guide” throwbag, and it’s similar to one of the ones you review here, but I can’t help thinking it’s a hazard to go whinging bag with. carabiner attached at a swimmer’s face. What’s the advantage or how would you picture using it?

Because many throw bag throws go to stuck boats. Modern throw bags have a padded pouch for the carabiner to protect the swimmer.

Any thoughts as to why no company seems to sell just the bag without the rope? I have so much rope, I would love to be able to get a bag to use all of the existing rope and not have to spend the money for new rope along with the bag...

Probably because pretty much every rope has a different volume so you'd need to make a ton of different bags. If you purchase low quality bags then they will probably deteriorate before the rope. If you purchase high quality bags then the bag and the rope will likely need to be replaced at the same time.

One point that you didn’t mention is how well the different bags dry. While not a “safety” thing it is something that comes into play when needing to maintain your gear. I’d love to see the WWTC do better is breathability for the rope. Once those things are wet, you have to remove the rope to dry it out. Otherwise it gets moldy pretty quick.

We use WWTC throw bags all the time and have never had a problem with drying or mold. The bag allows moisture through just fine.

Do you use or own WWTC throw bag or are you assuming it doesn't dry because it doesn't have mesh?
