Reviewing a SUNDAY ROAST at a HUGE PUB in Kent! Was it the BEST?

Today, I'm back in Kent. More specifically, I'm in the sleepy town of Trottiscliffe and most importantly, I'm going to review another Sunday roast after the one I did at Roast and the Toby Carvery in one of my previous videos. Hope you enjoy this one!

Glad you chose this place as I have been a few times as I used to live relatively close by. It's always packed on a Sunday because of the roast dinners. I used to have the lamb as most places don't do it for some reason. It was always good. Your meal looked delicious. I love meat cut thick, most roasts that you have out are always cut wafer thin. Love cranberry sauce with turkey but only at Christmas. Good selection of vegetables too. The Yorkshire pudding is a proper one! That gravy looks like it's served by the slice ! For £20 that's decent value. That's a 9 from me. Great review Gary as always.

I remember years ago someone telling me that Trottiscliffe was pronouced Trossly.we used to pass the sign on the way to Ashford,Kent before the motorway arrived. Yes I love cranberry sauce. That roast looked superb. I find it odd that it is just us Brits that have roast spuds.😊

So as an American, I'm just learning about Sunday roast which seems to be a nation wide thing. Today I learned that it isn't only Roast beef, but Ham, Turkey and I would guess Lamb as well. Good episode!

Another interesting review,; well filmed, narrated and good surrounding sound. I like all sauces, particularly cranberry. That looked like a lovely meal served on a nice big plate. That looked like a really nice plate of food. Turkey can often be dry but the way it looked and from your description, it sounded fantastic. The gravy, it looked just fabulous, thick and well made! I don’t why,but when I go into these sort of pubs I always order a Ploughman’s…. Not a fan of a Roast Dinner,but it did look tasty! Another wonderful review Gary. That roast dinner looked 10/10 for me. I'm so happy you said the turkey wasn't dry as if you cooked turkey properly then it shouldn't be dry. That gravy looked out of this world and thick just as I like it. Nothing worst than runny gravy imo. Great stuff.

I'm a Brit but i love Curry's, Spag bols, Chillie's, Chinese etc but my absolute favourite meal is a decent UK Sunday roast/Xmas dinner! Bring it on with plenty of thick gravy and sprouts! For a £3.30 add on too a £17 Sunday roast i would have expected a bit more Turkey than just a few thin slices TBH..

Ocean Spray Cranberries had a major processing facility on the west coast of Washington State about 15 miles west of Aberdeen WA. There were a large number of bogs from which cranberries were harvested when I grew up there 50+ years ago. I chuckled when you held up the jar.

Im always slightly sceptical when a pub offers a huge range of dishes. That said, your roast looked excellent. The sprouts are a very good test of a restaurant - the window between under and over cooked is very tight, so well played the George. Price seemed fair for an excellent meal with great service in a lovely looking old pub. Great review.

My mum used to cook minced beef with gravy, mash and veg and i used to have redcurrant jelly with it. I know it sounds awful but it was yummy. Years ago though. Similar to cranberry sauce taste. Well i love it anyway. Take care ❤

Hi Gary We went to The George last night based on Your recommendation and I must concur, the food and the service were excellent. The portions are very generous and I would highly Recommend the Steak and Ale Pie 😍 and for desert I had Sticky Toffee Pudding and Custard which was also delicious 😋 but definitely a case of Eyes bigger than belly coz after the very filling Main I should have called it a day, Phew 😄 was worth it though!

Try Roast pots , part boiled ,and create a textured surface in Duck or Goose Fat. Cut the carrots diagonally this will release the flavour, baton cut, tend to be rubbery when boiled like the ones on the plate and taste bland. The Broc looked under cooked. Skimpy on the meat, The rest looked good and no £1 extra for gravy. A tad over priced if there are two or more. Most of us would have a beer after all it’s a Pub. Cranberry, with Chicken, Turkey. If the meat appears dry, its because its probably been sitting under a food warmer, and will lose its freshness, over time, that goes for the veg as well. Sitting there ready for a big service, ie a Sunday. After all its not at home , cooker to plate, veg last because of loss of heat. 7.5.

Thanks for another nice review and that Yorkshire pudding looked so good. I like my Brussel sprouts. I think they get a bad reputation from people not being able to cook them properly. I usually fix them in a light sauce with some onions for extra flavor. Also, I do love my cranberry sauce with ham or turkey.

My local pub does a brilliant Sunday roast (and real ale - it is not part of pub group), last week we went at 1.20 and they had sold out of food! The chef cooks everything from scratch, no microwave - but he does have a fridge. All the food is locally sourced. During the week there are only about 3 starters, 4 main, and pudding if he manages it. I love it cos you know nothing has been hanging around in a freezer for months!

I know Trottiscliffe , use to get to it from the A20. I had customers requiring my repair skills. I know the pub but never been in as far as I know.. looks a lot better than the Toby was to us. Was no meat as they ran out and veg was running out and not replenished. Then last year , at a different group was inedible, all of us left a whole plate of food hardly touched. It was paid for by our Son in law and he never did get a refund.. but yours looks wonderful.

Great clip as always Gary and Mr cameraman. The food here looked very good indeed and when your cooking in large amounts its hard getting things like sprouts and Broccoli cooked correctly, just a few minuets over and they can go to mush, so well done to the chef here. Cranberry Sauce wise its certainly a must for me with chicken and especially Turkey at Christmas, but then it must be home made. Blimey Gary just look at those follower numbers now my friend, well done. Chris

A very fair and decent review as ever. Strange that the gammon was not cooked the same for each slice, maybe they came off different joints. Looks like a very atmospheric pub in a great location, I'd certainly consider going there if I were in that area at some point. Cheers

That looked absolutely delicious, love the huge portion of extra gravy, always need more gravy. I was surprised you were given the jar of cranberry and they didn’t decant a small amount into a little dish as not everyone may be as diligent with using the spoon provided and there could be double dipping going on, the same would be for horseradish. Mustard fine as was a squeezy bottle, like ketchup and brown sauce. I often wonder whether you cut out any bloopers ? A blooper reel would be funny 😀 Thanks for another great review

Sleepy village on the edge of the North Downs. I had a mate that lived there, but before him I tried to cycle up the hill. 1in 5, I think, I almost reached the top. The owners of the pub at the top, became my neighbours down here. They are all dead now, and the son has moved away. I don't remember the name of the pub, and the pub in Trottiscliffe, 70 years ago. The food looked great though. 9.5/10.

That looked pretty decent Gaz. It's 4 in the morning, my bladder wakes me once again for a wee and my pc is still on playing KZbin videos with yours truly eating a roast !! Had to go and get something to eat whilst watching. Never heard of Trottiscliffe and I'm from Kent, although more south east, Herne Bay, Margate area. My wife is of Jamaican origin but born here, we have rice n peas with our sunday roast, absolutely makes the meal !! Cheers for another great vid Gaz, enjoying your content. Hi Gary. Do you remember those boil-in-the bag ham joints? Had them as a kid. Real treat. Normally Saturday, so not a roast. Mum served the boneless joint with tinned pineapple rings, peas and mash. Delicious. PS. Really like the gravy boat, nice touch. It looked nice and thick dark. The whole meal looks really nice. PPS. I’ve noticed from your reviews, whether fish and chips, a Sunday roast, a full English, a ruby, that £20-25 per person is the average price for a decent meal out. It compares favourably with France (different menus obvs) where a Plat du Jour in an average bistrot costs about 15€ and is often really below par. Occasionally you find what I call proper rural French family cooking. A little unassuming bistrot that you could easily miss. I discovered one recently called Chez Maud. There’s no menu. It’s for workers. The deal costs less that 20€. As you enter the smell is mouthwatering. It’s not as-much-as-you-can-eat but nobody leaves hungry. And it’s all local produce.

What a fantastic place ... my dog would love it. That dinner looked great. The one thing I haven´t seen been offered to you yet is bread sauce. I love bread sauce and would prefer bread sauce with my turkey or chicken to yorkshire pudding. I am a bit old fashioned that way and really only like yorkshire pudding with beef or a large one served with a filling in.

Love the videos Gary, if you can ,you’ve gotta try our local. The Star Standon, Hertfordshire village off the A120 near Bishops Stortford. Food excellent booking essential if you can get in, we as locals need a month ahead booking for Sunday lunch or you won’t get in.
