That game was the worst I’ve seen them play since game 7 against Montreal. You guys have to make some big changes, you’d be insane to run it back again next year. If this core was going to work, it would have by now. It’s not like you guys keep losing in the conference finals, you can’t even win more than 5 playoff games (and usually far less than that). It must suck so bad as a fan, I feel for you guys. They don’t deserve you guys

@@Cheyennemae.A Agreed. It is the single most obvoious trait of any Leaf team. Been watching them since the 70's and maybe the Gilmour 93 team had a bit of chemistry, but it's the only one I can think of. This core has been together for plenty of time and they still don't seem to read well off of each other. Of course the line blender could be a part of that. The times they win are mostly due to to individual efforts. And those have been shut down tight by the Bruins. As a team, Keefe and the rest of them don't seem to have a clue what to do about it.

They refuse to try and build like the great teams of the 60s. Great goaltender, elite defense, and a good center core of two way forwards, and wingers that were capable two way wingers that could all put up decent totals. The whole team bought in and won 4 cups, same basic idea in the 40s. Since I'd say the 70s they've had a blender of meh, chemistry is a rare sight, hard work who needs it, and be exciting.

Honest question: how can you keep cheering for a team that's been so bad or choking in the playoffs for so long?
@bjmw93
@bjmw93 16 күн бұрын
@@simon-pierrelussier2775 it's a fair question lol. The first thing is that despite what one reads online or hears from maybe some media figures or something, I don't know any Leafs fans IRL who are under any delusions about this team. I live in Southern Ontario, my friends and family are Leafs fans, my co-workers are Leafs fans. But we all know the team (especially this current iteration of the team with Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares and Rielly) are gonna choke in the playoffs every year. Especially at this point after 8 years of it right? No one is surprised or has any faith. So I guess that provides a layer of protection lol, can't be disappointed if you never expected any other outcome. Although a game and effort like last night is still painful to watch. Now, why not abandon the team completely? I'm in too deep lol. I'm 30 years old, grandpa had me in Leafs pajamas when I was 3 days old. I've invested in this team my whole life, and grew up loving them as a boy, watching games with family and friends. The early 2000s Leafs did give me some core memories as a kid, going on playoff runs (back when even though we couldn't win a cup, we could at least win a round or two lol). It's where I'm from, it's in my DNA practically lol. I certainly couldn't switch teams and replace that, though I have had other side teams that I like and cheer for too when the Leafs inevitably fail every year. Usually teams out West. I would love to see the Jets or Oilers break through. I liked the Blues core that won in '19, and had been cheering for them for years too. I liked the 2012-2014 Kings and their brand of hockey. I've liked Nashville over the years. I was happy when Ovi got his cup. All I can do is pipe dream that one day, the Leafs put together a team that can compete for a Stanley Cup, in my lifetime or my children's lifetime lol. But I do not trust to hope; it has forsaken these lands.
@bjmw93
@bjmw93 16 күн бұрын
@@simon-pierrelussier2775 very fair question. I just wrote a really long and detailed comment breaking it down but it disappeared or didn't post. I'll shorten it to key points. 1) I (and the Leafs fans I know IRL here in Southern Ontario) are under no illusions about this team. The delusional Leafs fan is an online or media thing. We know they're gonna choke, especially this core after 8 years. 2)Why not quit? Born and raised, Southern Ontario. Leafs pajamas when I was 3 days old from my grandpa, whole Leafs bedroom as a kid. Watching the games with grandpa, family and friends. Community, family, history. In too deep. 3) Because of the last point, could never go all in on a new team. But I have side teams I cheer for when the Leafs fail me every year. Usually teams out West. I liked the Kings core that won those two cups and their brand of hockey, the 2019 Blues that finally won I'd been cheering for that group through the 2010s too. I've liked Nashville over the years. There's a brand of hockey those 3 organizations have had over the years that I like, heavy hard-hitting with good goaltending and defensive structure. Opposite of the Leafs. Would love to see McDavid and the Oilers break through, or the Jets. 4) Maybe one day the Leafs will put together a cup contender before I die. Or in my kids lifetime lol. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be here if they do.

@@bjmw93 I understand not being able to switch to another team, way too much invested. What I don't get is rewarding the organization regardless of performance. People keep watching year in year out and all product owners make trucks of money: no real pressure to win anywhere. Pressure has to come from the fans and the only pressure these people listen to is the one on the wallet. It's self-inflicted pain at this point, but anyway, you do you I guess.

I don't think we should ever, ever see a Leaf fan ever say that Matthews belongs among the top players in the league. There has been consistent proof every single playoffs that he's a floater out there, a cherry picker, and when things mean something, he fades away. 47 points in 53 career playoff games says otherwise. What I think hurts Toronto is that no one on Toronto's 3rd or 4th line scare any playoff team they play. So shut down the top 2 lines, and you likely win.

I don’t think they lack heart or effort, they lack a structure that can win in the playoffs. Partly because their forwards up front are so talented they can win in the regular season without a real attention to detail. A first time coach in the NHL is just not going to get buy in to a more defensive first structure when you can just outscore your problems. Of course when you have to play better Team orientated Teams in playoffs, you can’t win hockey games this way. It a flawed philosophy of their old GM and it just doesn’t work. They have to sacrifice two of their highly talented forwards (Tavares will be one of them because on July 1st his heavily weighted contract bonus will reduce his salary to 1M - Though his cap hit is high there are about half the teams who will have the cap room and love to only pay him 1M in cash - he will be traded in first week of July). I also think Marner will be traded at draft. He needs to play on a line with players who can make room for him if he is going to be effective in the playoffs. He also needs to get out the fishbowl that is Toronto, he wears it too much on his sleeve. Both will have some say in where they are going with the no movement clauses so the return will not be as high as people in Toronto will want but it will be addition by subtraction as the 22M in cap space will give the Leafs the resources to rebalance their roster. Hire a real experienced coach like a Joel Q and I think they should be a less flashy team but better set up for real success when it matters.

Why did this have to be the team that introduced me to hockey? I became a hockey fan because of a Leafs game I saw in person, so I felt obligated to root for them alongside my hometown team. Then the Leafs drafted a guy from my hometown, Auston Matthews, and I felt like that solidified them as my 2nd team behind the 'Yotes. Now my hometown team is gone and the Leafs are regressing in the playoffs. Truly the worst year of hockey imaginable honestly.

As a leafs fan and Resident roughly 30 mins outside the city, Tickets to these games have been beyond insane. It’s roughly $400-$500 for Purple seats(nose bleeds) and if u want seats closer to the action ur paying $1900 for Platnium seats (roughly first 5-6 rows from glass and up) even golds are $800-$1200. U want real fans to show up maybe make tickets a lot more affordable for people and don’t let all these stupid corporate people get in wearing Fu**ing Suits! GGs Boston, you earned this series, you will likely get it done in 5, I wish you luck against the Panthers who will likely get through also. Keefe, Shanahan, Treliving, all need to go and the team needs a full restart from the top down unfortunately. Sry Tree for only getting 1 year.

What happened to the Leafs is that it’s easy to go from 30th in the league to 15th, because you’re passing 15 lousy & mediocre teams. Then it gets hard because the teams are better. When they got Matthews & Tavares around the same time they went from lousy to pretty good to quick. They needed another bad year or two to get one or two more top 5 picks to build a solid foundation, but they got stuck at pretty good and haven’t been able to move up from there.
@YouTubeChannell7

@@RRaquello I’d have to disagree, our foundation was built for a few years, they just got brought up all at the same time. Yes maybe they got to good to quick, but that happens very often and the playoff experience can help young players. Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Liljegren were all drafted within 4 years of each other the big 3 got brought up full time in 2016-17 because of Matthews, we already had M. Rielly, F. Anderson, N. Kadri, those were our big 3 at that time to be the leaders. This team has Ego’s to many of them and non of them gel with each other.

As a former goalie, Samsonov should have stopped the JVR and Marchand shots. On the JVR goal, he did his classic over-commit and left his legs wide open. On the Marchand goal, he was way too aggressive and far out of his net given the situation, which is why Marchand had a wide open net. The Pasta goal there's nothing he could have done. Wouldn’t it be crazy if the Canucks, who brought in a coach last year to give the team structure, made it to the 2nd round and the Leafs didn’t? I remember when people threw Andersen under the bus. Now look at them. Their problem isn’t goaltending. It’s all their top guys no showing in the playoffs. Of course they have to go to Woll in the next game. It may not have been Sammy's fault, but his confidence has been up and down all season, and at this point it's definitely down. He is jumping around again and losing sight of the puck. Both bad. I don't think his game is really suited for Boston. They aren't a high shooting team and more of a passing team which gets him jumping around more. And on top of that I don't think the team as a whole feels a lot of confidence when he is in the net. It may go the same way for Woll, but since this could be the last game, I think you need to switch it up. The change might motivate these guys or at least maybe give them some confidence that is sorely needed to pull out a win. Chances are good they will still lose the next one, but at least they can say they tried everything. They should have brought up the entire Marlies team for the last 3 regular season games and rested the big guys. The "Matthews must get 70" thing really got them unfocused and unprepared for the playoffs. And that failure has been dogging them into this series I think. 70 doesn't mean squat now. Getting smoked again by Boston is what will be remembered.

@@ari1234athis is an insane take. If 7 years of evidence isn’t enough for you, after yesterday’s game, you should by now know everything you need to know about this team. It’s not like these guys are losing in the conference final year after year. They dodged Florida and are now down 3-1 to a much inferior (skill wise) team. You can’t honestly look at me with a straight face and say they’re cup contenders. They’re cooked as it is, they have 0% chance of going on a run should they make it out of this round by some miracle.

@@chrismatzenbach1967 This streak with the Bruins isn't over yet, it's 3-1, so I said nothing of value has been lost. You know hockey, You don't go into the third/second period of a game down 3-1 and say "What's the point, we've lost this one". If You think they're cooked, then fine, fair enough, but this mentality is one that haunts the Leafs time and time again. I'm also not saying the Leafs are going to win the Stanley Cup, but I am saying this series isn't over yet. Edit:Toronto WILL win Stanley Cup someday don`t know when don`t know how but they will. My team had 58 year losin streak until they won so i know about frustrations 😀also this means that i empathise with the Leaf fans because they have been waiting 57 years...Its a long time.
