One thing I'd like to note about Tron since you mentioned the green screen is the fact that they didn't use a green screen. Everything was shot on a black soundstage and all the characters costumes were white with the patterns being solid black. This was so that they could blow up the film to animation cells where they had animators manually rotoscope out each actor multiple times per frame. They cut out the actor's body, the face, the eyes, and the mouth. The reason they did that was so that all the elements could be separated and they could invert the body for the light effect on the suits which was achieved using a technique called backlit animation. In fact, On the making of documentary for the movies DVD release, the actor that played ram shared an anecdote about how a during the post-production of Toronto, a Disney animator walked up to the actor that played Ram and said to his face that he hated the actor's nose. Because he was assigned with rotoscoping out Ram for every scene he was in. That's why scenes in the electric world are pretty static in terms of camera movements. I will also note that the HD remaster of the movie on Blu-ray and Disney Plus look excellent, and the CGI was not touched at all because like you Said those were just filmed with film cameras, they had no other way to get the CGI out of the computer and on to the film.

Also if you're going to cover re-releases Tron did eventually get a widescreen release in the '90s that I think would be worth taking a look at for whenever you get back to making these videos

Also about Disney not releasing some of their big heavy hitting masterpieces on home video in the beginning, they didn't do that because at this point they were still banking on their current model of re-releasing leads into theaters as as their main source of profit. This led to them creating an internal list called the untouchables which consisted of their big heavy hitting movies aside from a couple of profitable films like Fantasia, and Alice in wonderland which was excluded because Walt Disney himself chose to air a condensed version of the movie on television in the '50s. It wasn't until later on that some of their bigger movies started getting home releases.

1:05:36 Well there was a throwaway line earlier in the movie saying that Arthur and his adoptive family would be "off to London" by Christmas without going into too many details; as in, they never specify whether they meant Christmas _Eve_ or _Day_

Disney has been frustrating because they generally didn’t put release years on their media. They only started doing that with Blu-rays. The VERY first Disney laserdiscs were on the DiscoVision label which put out all of the first years’ releases, about 1978-81. There’s a great picture on the back cover of these with Mickey reaching out of a TV pushing a button on an early Magnavox player.

I think the reason why Disney was in a slump in the 70s and early 80s is because these films were made during the New Hollywood era, the late 60s/70s period in American cinema which a new generation of directors (Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, Brian de Palma, Steven Spielberg, Robert Altman, and Francis Ford Coppola) were making films with the creative freedom they needed. While many New Hollywood era films turned about to be acclaimed works of cinema, audiences became less interested in the conservative, family friendly Disney comedies and old fashioned genre films they have been churning out since the 50s and 60s. Interest in Disney was nearly crushed with the rise of the summer blockbusters, with the releases of such big budget titles like Jaws, Star Wars, and Superman, the film industry shifted back to high concept, spectacle driven crowd pleasers. Things started to recover in the fall of 1984 when Paramount executive Michael Eisner started to run the company and he changed everything. But that's a story for another day.

Very detailed video on all of those 1982 LD releases I have a small LD collection which is growing but I don't think I'll ever go far to collect every single release from each year from a single studio. Still need to get my LD player back in service. These transfers don't look too bad for 1982 standards, though they'll get much better by the late 80s/early-mid 90s. The 91 CAV Boxset of Fantasia has a transfer that still holds up to this day at least by the limitations of Composite quality on a CRT TV. Will be looking foward to the rest of the series :D I'm curious, but will you also be reviewing the non-Disney branded discs that Disney technically released in this series of vids (AKA, Touchstone, Buena Vista Home Video, Hollywood Pictures)

Hello! I'm glad you liked the video! :) I hadn't really considered the fact that there are some Disney LaserDiscs that were released by subsidiaries, such as Touchstone. I think I'm going to mainly focus on what was released specifically by Walt Disney Home Video itself, without talking too much about the non-Disney branded discs. Although, I might make a couple exceptions with some of the more iconic films, such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Nightmare Before Christmas

Disney chose Pete's Dragon because Disney himself was strict on what was put on TV and the ones that were aired on TV then got put on home video

U definitely are too young to get this stuff but glass your trying. Please ditch the post 2020 search for racism. Just assume there isn't any prior to 2020. That will cause your viewing to make more sense. Also I do appreciate your love of old physical media. Don't compare it plus cause d plus is sadly censored in horrible ways nobody likes. Physical media rocks!
