You forgot the one card Modular set Longshot from Mojo, it would fall in the special catagory because it doesn't add any cards and makes it a bit eaiser because you get an ally and it has surge.

Ok, I love this video so much, it shows how even just a few cards can make a difference. **BUT.** I would like to see some more examples please. So many times I set up a game and I actually come up with a story, explaining why the villian is there, what modules he has, even who is facing him. Like maybe Spider Man and Venom have a team up on old Goblin, only to learn it is actually Modok they must worry about!

I have 29 villains and I played through them in order. Then immediately played them all again with different modulars and it was like a different game. I'm really obsessive about playing things 'the intended way' and I 100% agree with you on the term 'recommended' being misleading. I really don't like mixing up sets (to the point that I keep the sets with the villain they are recommended for where possible). But after watching this video I am going to try some of the changes you suggest. I think I'll stick to your categories to begin with to keep a 'similar' experience. Thank you, this video is truly incredible for people like me that struggle to want to be inventive or 'fun' with the villain combos.

@@GetUpandGame Well I did fight Klaw with one of the Hyrda minion sets (the one that spams guard constantly). It probably made him easier as Masters of Evil is quite a chunky set all things considered; but it wasn't so easy that it was a wash (lost once, won the next time with Hawkeye Precon). Awesome video! Thank you! I was somewhat irritated that you didn’t mention two very important aspects: 1. The number of cards. Bigger sets slow the villain down and increase the variance of the deck (and therefore reduces consistency) 2. The number of boost icons on the cards. Some sets add more icons on average. (You mentioned this at least occasionally.)
@GetUpandGame Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sorry about that! I remember kicking myself for not making a point about the size of the mod. Sometimes you could replace one big one with 2 little ones and so on And like you said I did mention the number of boost icons occasionally, but only when I felt like it was significant enough to bear mentioning. There’s always a balance I’m trying to strike between presenting information and trying to keep the video from being too outrageously long. So sometimes I have to be choosy about how thorough to be. There’s always more I wish I would’ve said!

This is my favorite YT video in a long time! Amazing job! 👏🎉🥳 I’ll most likely listen to it again in a while, it was just that good, because it gets the creativity going for deck building for the villains. I keep lists of all villains, modular decks, and nemeses for the purpose of new builds, but I haven’t done a ton yet. I’m all about theme when I do, though. I come up with a story of what’s going on. I’ve also made my own villains. The first one was Mister Sinister, who worked a lot like Hood, long before Hood was out. And Venom that was pretty basic, created before the Sinister Six box of course. And also Red Hulk. But now I’m too lazy to make whole decks, so my idea is to create new main schemes and setup cards to breathe new life into old villains. And then I’ll combine that with new modular decks too, and this video was great in that way too! 👍😁

This was a good video. I'm still pretty much starting out in this, havent played most heroes yet (though I do have all the big box expansions, bought them all early), and decided to see what'd happen if I just played Rhino, but with the Doomsday Chair set. Hadnt done that before. Took Spectrum for a test drive, quickly discovered that her precon deck is a special level of stupid, got utterly mangled immediately before I could even get a handle on what she does. Modok came out early and things went all stupid real fast. So, a couple of quick card swaps (mostly getting rid of Band Together, which seems awful), played again, and ALMOST won. Modok ends up just being so freaking dangerous... with him being a constant problem, he gives Rhino time to go bonkers, and he just... wont... go away. Though I'm pleased that I at least came super close to winning even despite Spectrum's godawful starting deck. It was super exciting. I cant imagine how bloody hard that modular set must be if playing a tougher villain on advanced or something. I wouldnt have thought that a small set of like 6 cards that all focus on exactly one minion could be that nasty. I'm surprised at just how much of an effect switching out these sets has. Already went and ordered Mojo now. Honestly I think the creators should have done a bit more to emphasize the idea of swapping sets out. It definitely seems like never doing that is really missing out here. Amazing just how much customization this game has.
@GetUpandGame Жыл бұрын
This comment makes me so happy because it really justifies why I wanted to make this video. I’m so glad you gave Modok a try! And yeah he’s absolutely brutal no matter where you stick him lol. I couldn’t agree more with Spectrum’s preconstructed deck. I really don’t like playing her in leadership period actually. But I will tell you the cards she came with are great, including Band Together. If you play that with a hero that actually want to get a lot of allies out, it can be such a crazy good resource card. Especially if that hero also has good access to card draw then you’re going to have all the money in the world to play whatever you want. It’s unfortunate of you get it when you don’t have any allies, but after the first or second turn if you’re playing in a way that keeps your allies on the table (the hero is defending/tanking/stunning) then it’s really great. As for Spectrum I highly recommend protection or leadership for her. She can get a lot done if you use all the readying effects green has to offer, or in Justice you can use the yellow cards to handle the threat and have her attacking for 3 for you. She’s really fun in those aspects I think. Thanks so much for the awesome comment, and I really hope to hear more from you as your journey into the game continues! ☺️

Thanks! You’re totally right. I meant to address that and it slipped my mind. I’ve honestly never tried adding more than they said. I went back and read a bunch of old interviews because I remembered they talked about mod sets a couple of times, and I saw something from Caleb where he thought 35 was a good number for the encounter deck, and I think that’s probably about where most of them land with the recommended set (I didn’t actually check though) But no reason why you couldn’t! I can see adding a bunch of big minion sets, and then it’ll just feel like you’re fighting all of them more than the villain which could be a fun thing to do

I'm new to the game since August 2023 :). I bought the game (core set and Gambit & Rogue) for two reasons: gambit and the ability to play solo. What I'd like to know is the game set up for any hero to beat any villain? Example, can Hawkeye or Black Widow defeat a villian such as: Thanos, Loki, or Ultron to name a few? I get it that your Hero has help from his allies, but Villians have minions to help their schemes. Just wanted your thoughts, thanks?
@GetUpandGame Жыл бұрын
Hey cool! Welcome to the game! That’s a great question, and I would say yes that any hero can beat any villain in solo, but with a couple caveats. Solo is generally the toughest mode to play the game in since 1 hero has to manage everything. In most scenarios though the game isn’t generally too hard compared to many co-ops. But for some heroes against some scenarios you will need to do some careful deck building , as well as possibly change the optional modular encounter set out for an easier one. Hawkeye vs Loki for example would be a pretty tough matchup, but it’s definitely doable with a deck designed specifically to beat Loki, and probably switching out the Enchantress for some a different mod. Which is perfectly within the rules btw 🙂. And of course the more cards you own the better decks you can build so that helps too! I hope this was helpful and please feel free to ask any more questions! Have fun playing! 😀

We re doing something a little bit different, everytime we lose to scenario we switch the modular set and try again. Just to keep it fresh and fun.
@GetUpandGame Жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a really cool idea! Now are you trying to pick a slightly easier mod set each time? Or just seeing if something different works out better the next time around?

@@GetUpandGame Just got the Game and the Red Skull Expansion ,so my collection is not that big. We just to switch to a set that looks interresting ^^

@@virigas nice! I love that even just there you have plenty of different sets at your disposal. Thank you for sharing that! 😊

Great video. Which sleeves do you use for your cards?
@GetUpandGame2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! ☺️ I use the KMC Perfect Fit sleeves. I find them to be a nice middle ground between the expensive but much nicer Dragon Shields, and the cheaper and flimsier penny sleeves 👍

Osborn Tech is a fun one to pair with Sinister Six.

Ooo that’s a really good idea. That scenario count use a little bump up in difficulty in my opinion and it would be very cool to see those guys getting powerful gear once in awhile. I’m definitely doing that from now on 👍

Another day where people forget Standard 2 exists. At least the rest of this well put out and very helpful.
@GetUpandGame Жыл бұрын
Ah sorry about that! I guess I just didn’t really think of that as a mod set in the same way these are, but I still could’ve talked about it (and Expert 2). I also really don’t like it very much so saying I forgot it exists is pretty accurate 😅

Another house rule mod set I’ve seen people use are the horrible cosmic entity aspect cards I add them to the encounter deck and if I reveal them I give them surge too
@GetUpandGame2 жыл бұрын
That is an AWESOME idea! I think they could pair nicely with a harder mod/harder villain for a more balanced and fun experience! And it speaks to the underpowered nature of those cards that I I honestly don’t think throwing them in there for free is all that over strong lol

I'm surprised you put Legions of Hydra in the Heavies.. Madam Hydra feels more like a heavy in many encounters to me.

Isn't Madame Hydra in Legions of Hydra?

I really waffled on some of them. I think they originally were in Lieutenants cause it’s mostly about her, and then I later refined the categories again and that’s where she ended up. I think I had 9 main categories originally lol because there’s so much variance in them but that’s way too many to be useful 😅
@GetUpandGame2 жыл бұрын
@@jasco.gaming yeah, I’m guessing he’s saying he thought she was like a Lieutenant, but with Trapp you can never be sure 😉
