I feel like the example doesn't work for songs because in football you'd decide the 'best team' according to their performance/numbers, and at least to me, the numbers a song has as in plays or streams doesn't affect how much i enjoy the song at all. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I personally cannot separate 'my favourite' from 'god tier' and I think they are both the same.

I think Randolph is trying to say that while he has favourites, that he enjoys and can listen to casually, he also recognises that there are ‘objectively’ better song, based on melody, progression, hook etc. i assume Randolph has a sort of personal connection with his favourite (i.e being in the studio with him etc) and he is distancing himself to have an objective view for the tier list.
