How much room is there between your pushrims and door frames? They look a little chunky to me - but you're much narrower width-ways, so I suppose it balances out. I also had slim lightweight wheels on my Quickie.

Piggybacking off of your previous one about tips and tricks for getting one - make sure the invoice matches the original list you made (if one or more costs are not covered by a third party, such as insurance), but also make sure that everything that was supposed to come on the chair is actually on it, and are both present and correct. I had to get a different footrest, and I still need to get different tires, because my chair came with the wrong ones.

Thank you for always captioning your videos! It's always good as a person with an "invisible disability" (hard of hearing) to see the disabled community looking out for me! Edit after I finished watching (I got so excited to see captioning I had to comment almost immediately lol): congrats!! I'm so excited for you to get this wheelchair. I know basically nothing (only what I've seen from you) about wheelchairs but this one looks so much more comfortable. I wanted to ask, is it frustrating that it's taken so long to get one that feels this right? You've used a wheelchair for so many years, was it a gradual process to learn what you needed? Or was it more of a matter of getting what you can? I ask because I am hard of hearing and it's a fairly recent adjustment. I'm getting my first hearing aid soon and I'm worried it'll be a "this is better than nothing" situation. My consultation was a bit of a blur with information and costs thrown out to me. I had done a lot of research in preparation but still felt a bit overwhelmed when making my final decision. I think I made the right choice but I guess time will tell. I know I'm fairly privileged in terms of ability but I still worry that my choice of aid won't be the correct one. Thank you for all you do! I always enjoy your videos!
@Wheelsnoheels2 жыл бұрын
Your welcome. I get the captions professionally done to make sure they are the best they can be, so Im really pleased you are benefiting from them. Your question is a hard one to answer. Yes I've used a chair for many years. I had NHS chairs to begin with, then quite basic chairs. As time goes on, technology changes, they get better, and lighter. I had a bigger budget this time too, so that helped a lot. But my body and situations changed as time goes on. With my last chair, I thought I wanted a light weight folding chair as I thought that would be better. It was ok, but as you can see not the right set up for me, and way too heavy. OT's always said "you look strong. so you dont need recline (ergo) in the seat.) So you belived them. But Ive learned the very long way, this is not the case for me at all. With your hearing aids, Im sure with research, and people advising you, you will make the best decision you can for you and your budget. But again, in 5 years time, with getting used to it etc, and the way tech moves on so quickly, there will maybe, be something better?
@samantha536692 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is soo helpfull. I have "only" a minor hearing defficency in one Ear (the other one is fine) an use a hearing aid to compensate the most of it. But since enlish is my secon language, i benefit from reading the words which are dirently pronounced than i am used to. Gem you accent is quite normal, bit ever so often i have to get used to it again, because yours is a harsh difference from the normal amerikan-english television. O your captions help a lot. The video is awesome by the way.
@cbryce9243 Жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, You said, "I know I'm fairly privileged in terms of ability" . Thankfully have a disability is not a contest; we all have different needs and can learn a lot from each other. I use a powerchair for inside, and I am getting a manual one that will be easier to use outside of my home. Thankfully when things are not accessible, I can walk and lift a manual chair into a doorway. For my first time, I am getting hearing aids. Man, they are expensive, there are so many to choose from, and most all seem to have troubles. I'm kind of dreading the experience. I had one pair that I returned. They were hard to adjust because I have trouble holding small items and I kept dropping them. And because they were small, they were had to see. But I also don't want a stereo system hanging off my ear either. If you have learned from your experience and have any pointers, please do share!

As always, you do such a great job. These three videos where you decide on a new wheelchair and how to order it was the very best. I'm new to having to use a wheelchair. I was paralyzed three (3) weeks after being vaccinated. Yes, you heard right. I was vaccinated, and three (3) weeks later, I woke up and could not get out of bed. They rushed me to the hospital and kept me for five weeks, subjecting me to every test possible and ensuring the cause. The vaccine caused a blood clot which in turn caused me to be paralyzed from the waist down. It's taking some time for me to accept it, but I now have, and I'm moving on. Oh, one knot. I have to have my right leg amputated from the hip down. Wow. All because of the mandatory vaccination policy. I've watched your videos for over a year and have learned so much. For me, your last three about picking out your new wheelchair were the best. Your review of different brands of wheelchairs has been very helpful in my decision. Thank you so much for your help. I want to see your test as many different wheelchairs as possible. You have no idea how helpful they are. Keep up the great job. Ted

I question to ask when you get insurant check show replaces are done, the insurant I had only use 1 firm who where a few hours away, so it took for every to get a repair done as they only came down my way once they had a few jobs todo. it took almost 6 months to get my repair done, it took them about a month to replace a fuse, over 8 weeks to replace a motor (when I replace the other motor my self using another firm it took a week, it would of been quicker but I had a meter first date and time they wanted to do the replacement)

A suggestion I would say is when they're showing you how to do the moving parts and how to adjust anything that needs to be adjusted. Take a video. It's easier than writing. You can see it whenever you need it and you can visually see it instead of just reading it so does make it a lot easier and if you need someone to help you with something you can just show them the video on how it's done instead of trying to explain it to them.

👍 I'm looking at a lot of wheelchairs at the moment as I need to upgrade from the heavyweight (23kg!) folding wheelchair I bought from 'leboncoin'( french equivalent of ebay). I've ordered something similar to the Battec (but cheaper as I'm on a limited budget), so maybe needs to be a "solid" wheelchair for safety.. I also want a wheelchair that is fitted to me ( I was a bit lucky with the one I bought because its not a bad fit..a bit wider than I need & higher backrest than I need), but otherwise very adjustable & ok. It's served me for 2 years, but it's getting a bit 'tired' now & I'm getting tired of it! I had hoped for a more permanent solution to my neuropathy, but although my last treatment improving things a lot it's now relapsing...so I think this is going to be the pattern (relapsing/remitting) & that I'm going to need a wheelchair permanently. (Had been able to manage with walking sticks for shorter distances when my condition had improved..). The new one has to be lighter, a good fit & ok to use with the electric handcycle I've ordered, and not break the bank! In some ways a wheelchair is like a boat..its always going to be a compromise, there isn't one model that fits all uses, but there's maybe a good compromise for you personally..
@AnnikaK872 жыл бұрын
I don't even need a wheelchair but watched the full video anyway, it's good that you got a wheelchair that fits you :) I'm curious you're not afraid of tipping over? I didn't see that small wheel in the back that I've seen some wheelchair have.
