My brother has a pet red eared slider. He won him at a fair close to 10 years ago. The poor thing lived in a 10gal tank with less than 2 inches of water for like 6 years. I finally convinced him to upgrade and now he's in a 55gal with a tank topper as a basking spot. Still not ideal, but so much better!

@@demi8165 They're tough buggers and can survive quite a bit of neglect. Honestly though, most people shouldn't keep aquatic turtles. The general rule for housing one aquatic turtle is to offer at least 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length. Given that red-eared sliders generally grow to be 10-12” long, you will need at least 100-120 gallons of water.

I swear they're like toddlers sometimes 😂 like my dog doesn't really chew stuff up, but when he's in a playful mood, he will grab the nearest thing on the floor and give it a lil munch, which has been dangerous a few times. Which is why he's never out when no one is home.

He very rarely chews things he shouldn't when we are home, but both in and out of his cage, if he's alone, he will shred anything and everything in sight, so we have to put him in his cage and make sure nothing is in or near his cage that is dangerous or chewable (he doesn't chew up his bed/blankets in it). Oh dear... to the person who is thinking about breeding their mice... just don't. Especially if you are gonna give them to a pet store, that shows that you don't care where your mice end up. And you shouldn't be breeding mice with unknown genetic backgrounds anyway. Your care isn't very good either, so you definitely should not be breeding, you should be bettering the care of your current mice, cause, let's be honest here, their cages are really boring. Mice need a lot of clutter in their enclosure. And minimum wheel size for mice is 20cm, I don't know what size these wheels are, but they seem to be too small. The cages seem to be on the smaller size as well. I honestly recommend you to watch Emiology, she has amazing mouse and rat care videos. Ugh, the poor winter white dwarf. I hate it when people treat small animals like toys, it makes those animals appeal to kids even more. And that cage is terrible, the wheel is terrible too. Hamsters need so much more space and enrichment, 450 square inches could be considered the bare minimum, but 600 is a better minimum to strive for. Even bigger would be better of course.

@Maria-jq3zv2 жыл бұрын
I think the bigger, the better. As far as the mice go, I totally agree. I got a rescue mouse a few years ago, and it turns out she was pregnant when I got her. I didn’t know any of the genetic backgrounds, and it’s just not something I would recommend doing intentionally if you don’t have a lot of experience and don’t have a background on your mice. Momma mouse did most of the raising work, but I still had to socialize them and find good homes. Which was hard because I’m not a reputable breeder, and I was picky where they went. I don’t see why it’s a path you’d want to go down unless you’re really passionate about mice, especially since you won’t make much money selling them to a pet store.

Even though dwarf hamsters are half the size, they need the same amount of unbroken horizontal floor space as Syrian hamsters. I'm going to get baby chicks sometime soon! Can confidently say I've learned a lot from my last batch, and can take care of these babies better from the get-go. My chickens were kind of thrust on me by my parents, who bought them on a whim when we clearly did NOT have the space for six chickens. I had to take care of them, and they had a small homemade kennel-type thing that they'd stay in until i went outside and let them roam our small yard. While we moved, they got to free range my grandparents large field, but sadly, four of them were lost to predators. The downside of complete free ranging. The remaining two got to see our new home, but one was snatched by a golden eagle while I wasn't home. The last remaining chicken began getting depressed, being all alone and witnessing the death of her sibling, so we got a chicken that was a bit younger than her (hadn't even started laying yet) to keep her company. They're way happier now! A much larger enclosure, and I'll be working to get it even bigger and the best it can be for my chickens, especially before the babies can go outside.

My cousin has a hamster cage very similar to the last one in the video; plastic, more tall than wide, looks more toy than natural - and it's WAY smaller. She's pretty young, a bit too young to own a hamster imo but her parents trust her. I already told them not to get a hamster ball (they were talking about it when I got to see the lil guy for the first time) but I don't know if they still got it, I don't own hamsters so they probably wouldn't consider my opinion as professional in any way. Should I tell them that the cage might not be good for the hamster? How should I go about it? I don't want to come off as rude or make it sound like they're bad pet owners, I just want the hamster to live happily as long as possible. All advice would be greatly appreciated

Well, I'll need you to figure out what species of hamster it is. Dwarf, Robo, Syrian etc. But any hamster needs a large cage, you can get a 40 gallon bin. (40 gallons is the lowest size you can go) You'll need to make your own lid out of mesh/wire I reccomend watching videos on how to do that. You could also get a 40 gallon breeder tank for the cage! Smaller hamsters such as dwarfs and robos need atleast 6 inches of paper bedding, syrians or bigger hamsters need 8-10 inches. Some safe beddings are, Kaytee clean and cozy, Carefresh, Teabag bedding, or Aspen, make sure the bedding is NON SCENTED!! some unsafe beddings are, woodshavings, any type of cotton bedding. Pine, and cedar bedding. Hamsters also need a sand bath. You can get reptile sand that's not dusty and no calium. Or children's play sand but you'll have to bake that. Make sure to have 3-4 hides. I reccomend a "critter bath" as one of them! You can also get some sprays, you can find some at the petstore in the bird section, I reccomend Millet. Try a water bowl instead of bottle because bottles can cause dehydration and tooth damage. Make sure he has chew toys, you can give him toilet paper rolls to chew on. And lots of enrichment. I reccomend coco fiber they usually love that. Oh and they need Timothy or orchid hay mixed with their bedding, it helps them burrow better. And they like to chew on it. :)
@flowersnfireworks11142 жыл бұрын
If you want to confront them about getting a bigger cage, here are some good points to bring up: -Bin cages are MUCH less expensive, and are also much bigger -Although a hamster will be able to survive in a small cage, they will not thrive, and will likely be bored and unhappy -Hamsters love burrowing, and need sufficient bedding for it, which that cage will not provide. Burrowing is important for the hamsters as it is a natural behavior, and gives them enrichment -If they buy a bin cage, they will be able to customize it however they want :D -You could probably suggest that they watch some hamster youtubers, if they are skeptical about your 'professionalism'. Victoria Raechel is a good place to start, and I'll also link a good video that you can show them about why pet store cages are not appropriate -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWfFeH2wpNmisKM Just remember to be polite and respectful, so that they're more likely to listen to what you're saying. Good luck! :)))

Atleast some breeders are good, and actually take care of the pets instead of treating them badly and selling them for money. I feel like we need more responsible breeders. (This is my opinion)
@peggedyourdad95602 жыл бұрын
I mean, you still do have to charge money for the animal you're selling to make sure the person buying them is at least somewhat serious. But everything else yes. I don't know about mammalian pets since I mostly keep reptiles and one axolotl, but more often than not the only way to acquire one is to either get one from a pet store or from a good ethical breeder (this is the only valid option IMO). Of course, you should check your local rescue first for the species you want, but oftentimes the vast majority of species you'll find in rescues just don't make good pets for the majority of people (green iguanas and turtles are the first that come to mind). This and many more reasons are why I think this issue isn't as black and white as many like to portray it as, because there are a lot of factors involved and it really just comes down to what the person is looking for in an animal companion and how much research and work they're willing to put in.

Another great video 🥰 quick question I wondered if I could get your opinion on: we've got a solo variatus platy after his brother passed away recently, we obviously want to get him some company, but we're not keen on getting more platy fish because the tank is only 34 litres, so we wanted to get some smaller fish instead that are better suited to the smaller tank, I'd love to hear what your suggestion would be? Thanks 💚
@sodapets2 жыл бұрын
Not much you can put in that size tank tbh, another platy might be okay though

Does anyone know if betta fish can have social anxiety, because if they can I think mine has it We have a thicc 800 liter tank, lots of hiding places and friendly tank mates but he spends most of the time in that one plant I have lured him out of the plant with food today and swam around the tank for a little bit but he's back to the plant now Is there anything else I can do help him realize that his tank mates won't hurt him
@sodapets2 жыл бұрын
They can’t have social anxiety but betta fish just aren’t social fish, he probably just feels safer there because it’s such a large tank and he’s probably made that area his territory, maybe he would prefer being in his own smaller tank?
@kanalzumkommentieren21692 жыл бұрын
@@sodapets if I feel like he won't get along with the other fish I'll probably get him his own tank I just don't really know where I would put that because we don't really have the space for another tank but I'm sure I would find a place if it's really necessary
@computerworxx2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, you might do better moving him to a smaller tank. If he’s any kind of long finned variety (see also: most bettas) he’s going to be a lot more comfortable in say a 30 litre. Reason being that long finned bettas as they get older can have trouble swimming due to how much energy they need to expand to move their massive fins. Get a 30 litre, and a sponge filter to minimize water currents, and put a bunch of hides and plants and I think he’ll be a lot more adventurous.
@kanalzumkommentieren21692 жыл бұрын
@@computerworxx he's actually gotten a lot more confident in the last three days Today he's been swimming around the tank a lot more and I've seen him in bottom half of the tank a lot Right now it looks like he just needed a bit longer to get used to the situation but I'll keep looking after him

Large realistic enclosures actually usually don’t need to be cleaned as much, the bigger the enclosure, the less cleaning you need to do, just spot cleaned and the occasional full clean out

random thing i have a red tail shark ( it is a fresh water fish that is called a shark not a real shark) and it is semi-aggressive and 5 years old or more i cant rember but i got some aggressive fish to put in its tank so it would not be alone but it killed all of them even though they were twice its size as well as our bottom feeder does anyone know why it did this we feed them frequently (evrey other day ) as said by the worker at the pet store we did get albino rainbow sharks ( they are fish not sharks ) 2 of them died but lasted a really long time we got 2 more bigger one and 1 is still alive ( they are aggressive fish ) ik this is long but i do wonder why my semi aggressive fish killed a ton of aggressive fish

all the hamsters stuff was plastic, no bedding, no chew toys etc. there was nothing for the poor guy to do and nothing for him to chew on either. plus his feet must slide around and hurt on all that crappy plastic and then having to climb the wire for any sort of fun would hurt his feet too. poor guy
@hannahbauer56502 жыл бұрын
No idea if this is the case, but some people add plastic water bottles to the top of filters to slow down the water flow for fish like bettas. Maybe that has to do with it? I've never seen it like they have it in the picture but.... 🤔

My rabbits have the majority of the house. They're kept downstairs majority of the time (otherwise they will eat all the furniture) and they have a large cupboard with a hutch for their hay and messy bits like that as well as their toilet further back in that cupboard. Because their food and toilet area is by the back door I also let them out the back sometimes as they love a good run and jump. They love life and animals are so rewarding.

Can I put a 3d printed ship model in my tank (the model is Edmund Fitzgerald and I wanna split it and make it a wreck
@computerworxx2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the material. I wouldn’t put any kind of resin in a fish tank since resin is poisonous and could possibly leach into the water and kill your fish. If it’s any kind of plastic, look it up before you put it into the tank, and also make sure that you paint it safely. Regular old acrylic paint isn’t safe, though I hear you can use it if you put the proper aquarium safe material over top of it. Like a thick coat of clear silicone or something. TLDR; do a LOT of research before you put anything into your aquarium.

What kind of enclosure should I use for my cat?
@Dr.RatioSnail2 жыл бұрын
Obviously your entire house. Cats should not be caged unless you are transporting them but they do like beds and cardboard boxes oh and cat trees. Cats are best being indoors and having supervised outside time. So they don't kill songbirds.
