At that time they were using FifthGen Studios...however, the time they booked for the studio was suddenly unavailable, so they decided to do the recording on their own. They used Kevin and Avi's apartment...the closet for recording and the kitchen for filming and editing. They actually spent very little ($400) on props and equipment: contacts, lighting, etc, but they did send it out for "final polishing", so that $400 wasn't all they spent on getting this ready for posting.

🌟ABSOLUTELY ICONIC - PENTATONIX The company that recorded this Grammy winning video is FifGen. A small company that was there from the beginning for PENTATONIX. FifGen's Bates wanted to try something different for PENTATONIX so he pitched this video concept to them of a multi window frame video. At first the group was hesitant they eventually loved the idea. The video itself was produced by Ben Bram (PENTATONIX arranger and unofficial 6th member) and PTX themselves. The video was recorded in Kevin and Avi's apartment in their kitchen and a closet on a $400.00 dollar budget. This won them their first Grammy.

This is the song that got me into Pentatonix - my daughter (at that time a grad student) sent me a link about 5 years ago. My face was just like yours the first time I watched it! You might want to go back to their Sing-Off days and watch Video Killed the Radio Star (2011), which is in many ways the predecessor of this. It includes some of the most memorable vocal effects they use here, like the scratch and the skip.

The long list of "credits" you were reading is not the recording studio or filming crew, it is their Thank You list of Patreons! Every time they release a new video they list all the patreons current on the list! Yes, they are wearing contacts but Kevin couldn't wear them so he chose the rad glasses. There is something defined in each video to give tribute to the original. In this one it is the blue and touches of purple that Daft Punk was known for. OK. That was the produced version. Their live versions such at Hollywood Bowl with Matt Sallee on bass are excellent. And then there’s this: four ragamuffins and Kevin performing in a green room for Make A Wish with only the camera mic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqiXinapfb1-nas. The skips are real.

This is a mashup of Daft Punk songs, Daft Punk being the name of a French electronic music duo; they disbanded in 2021. You can find out more about them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk At the time #Pentatonix recorded this their publisher was Madison Gate, a minor subsidiary of Sony. Madison Gate specializes in publishing movie soundtracks, which makes it a less than ideal publisher for a group like Pentatonix. Even so, it was better than just posting everything to KZbin and hoping to get some patrons, which is what they'd been doing before. Madison Gate didn't have a recording studio - they'd had no need of one for movie soundtracks - but Pentatonix had already discovered that a closet had good acoustics so they were cool with recording audio tracks there. Madison Gate DID hook Pentatonix up with an excellent video recording company named FifGen. PTX had a venue lined up for this video shoot, but it fell through at the last minute, so someone at FifGen suggested that they get some black sheets and set up a sort of photo booth in Avi and Kevin's kitchen. The single ring light came out of PTX's $400 budget for this shoot, as did the makeup, presumably including the blue contact lenses. (Kevin's eyes couldn't tolerate the contacts, hence the visor, which is reministic of the helmets Daft Punk wore to protect their identities. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were, he must have had trouble with the contacts also.) I'm not sure, but I THINK FifGen supplied the black light. I don't know who edited the video, either FifGen or Ben Bram. Almost certainly the audio was edited by Ed Boyer. This won them their first Grammy, for "Best Arrangement Instrumental Or A Cappella." (As their co-arranger, Ben Bram shared the Grammy.) Before "Daft Punk Medley," that Grammy category did not exist - the Academy changed "Best Instrumental Arrangement" just so they could nominate Pentatonix! If you loved this - check out their original song Love Again. It's got the same EDM beat and outrageously cool costumes. It was written by Avi and Kevin with some help from Mitch and frankly I can listen to that song over and over again. It's one of their best! Other originals to check out is Sing - very upbeat song that gets you chair dancing lol - and Natural Disaster. Not to throw shade on Matt but Avi just was irreplaceable!

As everyone has said, it was Fifgen. There's actually a behind the scenes writeup, with photos, done by Fifgen on a lighting and video blog you can pretty easily find. And Ben is a music producer... not a videographer; the editing was Fifgen.

Yes...Avi had some difficulty wearing them, but he did. Kevin could not wear them, which is why he is wearing something different.

Did you try submitting with just the lettering over the video? Such as "HAD TO COVER THE VIDEO FOR KZbin"? Often that will do the trick and you won't have to blur as well.
