We got our first Betta from a 'specialist' local store, they sold us the tank and water ready for the Betta, said no heater needed, gave us no info on water and gave us tretta food. Also had a tiny tank when we plugged it in was infested in snails that kept laying eggs everywhere! Unfortunately our first Betta died shortly after we got him and the store closed before we were able to complain. Our Betta is now from an amazing store that's helped every time we needed it and gave us all the resources we needed

Hi graci thank you for all your videos they have really helped me make my bettas life great. I have a question I hope you would t mind answering, when you condition your bettas in the tubs/jars how do you keep the water warm?

So it depends on the time of year and temp of the room. if the room gets warm and is at a pretty constant temp then i don't use heating but will monitor the temp of the room. If the temp of the room fluctuates or drops then I use heat cable under the jars

Nice review. Pets at home, like all chain stores are stringent on things as a company, but this isn't always understood by the employees. That means you have people working in various departments enforcing things for reasons they don't understand. A good example of this is how when buying a fish from Pets at home you are asked a host of questions about your tank size, if you have any other fish etc, which is saved into an iPad. Very rarely are the people asking these questions actually educated on fish keeping, and so they go by what they've been taught which makes for a bad customer experience, as a fish keeping enthusiast will be lectured by somebody with very little real world experience.. or just experience in keeping fish in store, which is in a very large capacity sumped system with auto water change. No experience in actually cycling an aquarium, maintaining healthy water, fish compatability etc. These things are essential to a good customer experience, as well as essential to ensure these animals are going to a good home. I think it should be essential for certain training to be provided before being able to sell an animal, and this should be regulated externally. Pets at homes internal training doesn't really set people up for a true understanding of animal care. As an ex-employee of 3 years, I feel qualified to comment on that :)

There defo should be a regulatory body to evaluate every animal selling business. I mean that does actually exist through the animal selling licensing but the standards for a licence are so low and from looking online at licence holders, p@h do the absolute minimum care requirements to receive their licensing. It's so obvious the company is purely money focused and not about the actual life of the animals imo

Years ago they use to sell birds and now they stopped because they hadn't got a clue I went in there the other day and they put dead fish under all the tanks in the cupboard in a bucket what they don't sell in a few days goes out the back in the bins

Would I be able to send you a picture of my Betta to you on Instagram to get your opinion please? We have a dumbo Betta and we were away for 9 days (my parents watching him every other day and feeding) we came back and his black face has turned white, I've done a water change and added myxazin to try help, I'm just intrigued in what it may be and was wondering if you had any ideas?

How old and have you tested the water

@@dansaquariumandmore he's almost a year old we tested the water before we changed him into a hospital tank and the water was fine aside from the KH, have just heard of marbling in Bettas as his been a week and the white is now turning red, he's still active and eating

I had one that changed colour he was always eating ECT if he seems ok and water is fine then he might just change colour
