Reviewing The First Week Of Finals (AFL 2024)

What I’ve learned this week is that despite the amount of people doubting Geelong (including myself) they just proved to us that they are still capable of contending for the flag. This is shown when the cats were able to really slice through Ports defence and looked threatening every time they were near the ball. Even though the Giants weren’t able to get up last weekend, I still feel that they are still a threat for the flag. The Giants dominated the Swans for majority of the game last weekend, but just weren’t able to defend the heroic effort from Heeney with support from Gulden and Warner to help Sydney sneak past the Giants in a bone bruising encounter. From what I’ve seen in the hawks vs dogs game, the hawks particularly in the second half were just able to pick apart the Bulldogs midfield and defence. Some of Bevo’s moves (such as bringing Bont up forward for example) made in that game really killed the Dogs momentum and never found a way back. I’m still not convinced that the Lions will be a premiership threat. Even though they were up 60-0 late in the 2nd quarter, I just felt that when the blues eventually found some momentum back, the Lions just got jittery and at times just looked rattled.

🏈 Hawthorn blew a 41 point lead and lost by 1 point vs Port this year. If my Hawks had won that Round 10 game vs Port, they would have finished 2nd on the ladder. 09 09 2024
