They are from Latvia! I’ve been doing business with them for the last three years now, and their products are simply incredible. I also have items from Finland and Sweden that are extremely well-made and just as nice, something about these countries and their craftsmanship, they know what the hell they’re doing And they demand a high price because their items are 120% worth it. Right now I’m trying to convince them to put out a folding every day carry type knife, but I already have one of their Hunting knives and it’s simply a work of art. Top notch materials, combined with top notch, craftsmanship, and hands-on attention to detail work!!!! they simply are at the top of their game, but be aware that sometimes ordering their products you have to wait quite some time to get them as they are in high demand and there’s only so many of the Northman Guild specialized craftsman

I dug up a 120+ year old dbl bit axe that split wood for the first time in 80-100 years. AWESOME. it wasn’t made for splitting but is split right along my x27!

Yup looks like a Finnish Billnäs/Kellokoski pattern or atleast heavily heavily inspired. But this seems to be custom. But you can see the resemblance to a billnäs 12.2. The original axes had better quality steel at the edge and halfway back its a different steel

Muller 7259-75 - 7.5kg Hand Forged Splitting Maul is probably the craziest splitting maul I have ever seen. Its $699 but I think that's Austrian currency which is like $435 USD. 16.5 pounds of maul in an actual functional shape as opposed to those 20 pound wedges welded to a pipe that farmers would often use.

Really appreciate your candor ! From one wood nut to another, the 640. Bucks !! Is stupidly EXPENSIVE. Finding one at a garage sale w/a broken handle… well that’s more my style . It looked very nice as a cast piece I’ll give you that 👍

You know it’s similar to in some video games I’ve played where the best piece of equipment is only a small percentage like 2% stronger and it’s the best in its class but it’s worth far more than the tier below it. In the end the price to pay is worth the amount of energy this axe could save because you’re swinging it all day and each swing makes a difference in the long run

Seems reasonable for a hand crafted axe. Buckin Billy Ray's wood bullet is about 600 bucks from Hoffman Blacksmithing.

If would be great if the handle would flare out a bit more at the bottom to prevent slipping. But i don't know what i am talking about here. It is a peace of Art. I think the price is ok. But i would never buy it. Because i split a bit wood once in 3 years. So i have no clue.

Imagine you made a rocking chair by hand, might have taken you 60 hours to make it. Even at just $10/hr (which isn’t a livable wage in most places) that’s a $600 rocking chair BEFORE figuring out the cost of materials. Long story short I easily understand why that axe costs what it does.

When it's all said and done it's just a bit of high carbon steel. Nothing special about any splitting axe. Come to Australia mate that will test your maul on ozzie hardwood grey box eucalyptus

I’d buy that axe AS IS if the part opposite of the cutting edge was about a 1/2” wider. That way it could ALSO be used as a plastic felling wedge banger for getting the trees I cut to start falling over in a direction that my felling “hinge” is directing the tree to go.

Great video. I would like to add some positive comments about this company Northman Guild! I have several of their products now. Two different leather products and two different tool products. I will be doing reviews on my KZbin channel very soon, even though I am very new to KZbin reviews and definitely not an expert by any means. I would like to say that this company’s products are second to none! The fine examples that I have purchased and received, are incredibly well-made products and top notch aesthetics. Yes, they are expensive, but when you see the final product and you get your items, it is very easy to see why they cost what they cost. I’m in the United States, But for most of my life, I have purchased custom items or handmade items, like what this company does, for the most part from other countries. Firearms, Knives, watches and other products, which I believe to be better made, better quality longer lasting, and more attention to detail than products that the United States offers, in the same categories. I have had conversations online with representatives from this company and they are very nice people to work with, although my one complaint is that they’re very hard to get a hold of and their customer service is a little bit lacking in that area. my gosh, though the products they make are not only beautiful and functional, but fine examples of extremely well-made, old world craftsmanship products. I would gladly save my money to buy this company products and use them for a lifetime as compared to buying many of other companies products that are inferior! I just got one of their hunters hatchets and I will be doing a review very soon!
