My grandmother gave me her machine, and told me that she always had a cushion at the back to rest the machine when opening it to change the bobin! I think that's a great tip because it's super heavy to hold

I discovered the Pfaff advertisement for this machine actually advertises the 260 as a semi industrial sewing machine, particularly for in home sewing for a living. These do sew MUCH faster than most ordinary home sewing machines, they are like a home sewing machine on steroids! Luckily, they can sew slow too, but once you get used to the high speed, you will hate slow machines! I have both the 230 & 260, & love them both! Wonderful machines!

I having PFAFF 260 machine. I have no used special stitches for nearly 1.5 year. I can stitch ordinary stitch es. I can do zig zac also. But I can't do these stitch es on this white dial.. Can you help me sir

I have a 259, and from the outside as well as under the hood (with the embroidery mechanism removed), they appear to be identical, with the 259 lacking such embroidery capability. I also believe the motor is the same, based on a vendor's listing of a rebuilt motor with extended shaft and sprocket assembly, listed for use in the 259 and 260 (only). I use it for outdoor canvas repair, and it's heavy enough to sew multiple layers of Sunbrella with ease. I just don't see a lot of 259's around, but it's a smooth, powerful, heavy (35 lb) for its size machine, capable of zigzag and straight stitching. Stitch length presumably go to 4 mm, though mine doesn't do more than 3.6mm at the '4' setting. Perhaps just an adjustment.

Brian ... I have the 262-261 mounted in a cabinet ... I need to take it in for servicing and I can't figure out how to remove it from the cabinet. When I tilt it back as if I'm changing the bobbin, the points of attachment look difficult to get to. Can you advise me? Thanks!

I proudly own a Pfaff 259. I was looking to download it's owners instructional booklet but no dice. The face of the 260 is identical so I was lead here. I need to gather very thin Batiste fabric. I'll just experiment until I get it right. First off, my parents owned Barnetts Sewing machine on Kennedy Blvd Tampa untill 1988. I know the quality of these machines. 5 years ago I gave my Phaff away and sewed on a fancy 100 percent plastic thing that did more but gave far less. I got my Phaff 259 back with no problems from my friend. She no longer wanted that dinosaur.

I don't suppose you could put out a list of the embroidery stitches? Mine (a gift from an aunt) didn't have it's manual or chart with it. The manual isn't a problem, but I'd really like to know all the stitches it can do.

Brian: Excellent description of the 260's functions. We just inherited a 260 that belonged to the mother of a good friend who recently just moved back in town. No instructions or accessories. Some dust, but turns over easily. Oddly, the motor runs the machine on full speed, but stalls when you decrease the speed. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, love your review, does this machine sew canvas and chiffon well? How does the bobbin winding work? Can it compare with Pfaff 138?...eg. .speed, stitch type and quality. I need to make purchase decision between the two Pfaff sewing machines.

There was little or no info on the bobbin or shuttle. I visited because I wanted to know who to change the bobbin. It was the shuttle and casing that I was most interested in. Such a pity nothing was explained about it!

hello from Ecuador :D I got a pfaff 269, but i got a little big problem 'cause there is no working the zig zag in any mode, so i cant border or sew apart straght, can u help me please?

Take the top of the sewing machine off. Directly above and behind the zigzag dial / knob where it goes inside of the machine is the mechanism that is stuck. Turn zig zag dial / knob to 4, heat this area thoroughly with a hair dryer (high setting) or heat gun (low setting), add sewing machine oil (nothing else) in holes, use your hand to manually move the metal piece that sticks up and slightly left from where the dial goes inside of the machine (it has a spring attached) move this piece left and right and check for needle movement. If it does not move easily add more heat. Once it is moving easily by hand try running the machine. If it's working and the needle bar is swinging right and left, oil it again in that area anywhere that metal touches metal and exercise it by running the machine slowly increasing speed remove the needle and bring the presser foot up first. Allow the machine to cool and retest that zig zag is still working. You may have to repeat this procedure a few times. This is the problem 90% of the time. Good luck!

Hi Brian. Wonderful video. I'm looking for input on the Pfaff 362 Automatic cylinder arm version. I ended up getting this but have my found much info on it as what sets it aside the 360. I really enjoy my 362 & look forward to learning to sew on it soon. (: I also enjoy watching many of your project videos.

Not much difference. The 362 has the needle up function when you push the foot lift lever all the way up. You will find an electrical box on the bottom of the 362 with a micro switch, a bowden tube, and some other items for implementing the function.

I like the clarity of this video--you obviously know this machine well. I have a question about one of the 260 variants. I've brought home a treadle-powered version...and I wouldn't have if I'd realized there was no motor. I thought it was treadle & electric. Can a motor & belt be added, scavenged from a donor machine?

I have Pfaff bought in early 1970. Used for 2 years & packed. Opened after 35 years. Everything worked but needle doesn’t move up down at all. Small wheel on the right moves very slowly& gets warm. I can’t get any stitches. How can I move needle up & down? It is threaded.

You can buy a brand new (made in Taiwan) rotary hook for this machine btw. The hook design was copied by a lot of asian made industrial machines that use L type bobbins and is still widely used. Look for a Pfaff 138 compatible rotary hook.

+Veronica Thomas I realise this is nine months later but: I found one on ebay after looking for a while. Cheap, made in Taiwan and not exactly great but it got the job done. All you really need is the plastic connector, otherwise it's pretty simple if you're any good with a screwdriver to connect it to a better pedal.

It is well built, smooth and fast.. The only issue is the machine should only be a "straight stitch and zig zag" only, because it has no additional functional stitches. There are no blind hem, 3 step zig zag, or other utility stitches, only silly useless embroidery stitches.

Per the Pfaff manual for this machine and my personal testing it does have at least 2 useful utility stitches: 3 step zig zag is set by: zigzag at 0, needle left position, dial at front center at 3, cam mechanism under top door at 8, elongator (to left of cam door) at 1. Blind hem suggested to use zigzag at 0, needle right position, dial 1, cam 6, elongator 1. It's not a traditional looking blind stitch / blind hem but it works. But yes I absolutely agree it is heavy on useless embroidery stitches when compared to utility stitches.
