Thanks so much for your review Sunshine. I've just got the 150 set from Amazon, after 6 years of dithering and I feel I've been very lucky. I'm in the UK so the options for buying them are limited. All of the pencils are in relatively good condition, only half a dozen with off centre cores and no cracks. I've been pleasantly surprised by their core strength, they have sharpened well (using a crank handle M&R) and their vibrancy. Also agree they wouldn't be good for details and also not for large areas, as the core does disappear quickly. I've found them online open stock in the UK, so overall I'm pleased I finally bought them.

☺️ no worries at all! So glad you got your new toys! I have a few kits (just a few😂) but always come back to my prismacolor for my saturations and vibrancy, you won’t be sorry for your purchase💜

A great, thorough review Sunshine 😊 I have the full set of Prismacolor pencils and to be honest, I don't love them. I brought them years ago on recommendations but I should have done my own research first, there weren't review videos like this back then. I will sometimes use them in my colouring books if I want some vibrant colour and they have some great colours to choose from but they definitely aren't my go to pencils and I won't be replacing them in the future. I'm glad you brought up the split pencils because I have quite a few in my set and they break nearly every time I try to sharpen them. I bought them from an art shop so I don't think they are fakes but some are just badly made. Now I buy a few different pencil brands open stock to try out first before committing to a set if I like them.

Thankyou ☺️💜. Oh that’s a shame! I’ve heard of that happening with pencils that have been dropped. The lead breaks in the barrel and they just crumble away 😕. They really do suffer from manufacturing issues which is such a shame as they are such nice pencils!

Best pencils in the world. Hence why everyone tries to replicate them.

@@phillipstroll7385I like p r i s m a c o l o r pencils too, but I have to tell you this, and I'm not trying to be nasty to you here, not everybody is trying to duplicate prismacolor pencils. When you're talking about children's pencils you might be right, but when you're talking about artist grade pencils you're not correct. You might want to try some different brands because there's some really cool stuff out there.

Im surprised how hard the Prismacolor was. Maybe because of the wax its flexing before it snaps?
@StuffBySunshine Жыл бұрын
So was I! I’m tempted to strip back some pencil barrels and do a break test just in the core to see what the difference is.

I have the same feelings with the control issue. When I layer they become sticky and icky…..no control

alo maoushen here XD, i know is not relevant but u know i try to find art suplies in the flee market here in the nort part of México, and curious facts, Prismacolors is the pencil that I have found the most in flea markets, those and the Caran d'ache brand
@StuffBySunshine Жыл бұрын
Something gave your name away 😋😂. Really? So are they second hand or new? I know there’s a real problem with fake pencils being produced at the moment. Apparently Prismacolor has always been one of the most famed ones as well (tho there’s lots of others now). I’d be curious if they were genuine or not.
@maoushen Жыл бұрын
@@StuffBySunshine maybe that can be another test video idea, cause dont know if the are fake or not, the thing is sometimes they fell, if they have bad cuality, but i think sometimes is cause the merchants at the flee markeet dont take good care of them and beat them or leave them in the sun, which causes the color to dry out and make them more fragile.
@StuffBySunshine Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea! I want to do things a little different as I go on, I feel all of these feel a bit similar. Hopefully the black one is the start of something new and weird😂
@HPCthulhu20117 ай бұрын
Prismacolor pencils are excellent colored pencils. They are nice and soft. This works nicely on several paper surfaces however other papers, anything smooth are not friendly to the soft lead and wax. In that case the oil pencil works better. It works fine on vellum and mixed media.

Nice 👍👍👍, I went with Caran d'ache luminance and I'm happy with it, unfortunately saw too many reviews that they break Just by looking at them 😂

I have honestly only had one split/damaged pencil and have bought several sets over the years. Just lucky so far I guess.
@StuffBySunshine Жыл бұрын
Maybe I’ve just had bad luck? It’s actually been suggested that it might be the import process here in Australia. Pencils come in by sea and sit in humid conditions on the dock expanding and contracting with the weather and they crack because of it. Strange either way as I’ve never had another pencil brand broken like these.
@Thunderpaws11111 ай бұрын
I wonder if the ambient temperature affects how ‘breakable’ the points are? Ie, break more easily in summer, are ‘harder’ if it’s cooler?
@StuffBySunshine11 ай бұрын
I’m not sure to be honest! I shot 10 pencils break tests in a row so they all should be relatively the same ambient temperature. If I had a lab I’d incorporate that into the tests but alas it’s just a corner of my studio 😂
@afterfauve8291 Жыл бұрын
It seems to me they mix, not blend. They seem to act more like an oil pastel from your description, I've used oil pastels but have never used a pastel pencil. The way they shatter in the pressure test, tells me about how the leds are manufactured, and explains why the casing splits. I remember using them a long time ago and not liking them.
@StuffBySunshine Жыл бұрын
I felt the same until this video! I feel like I have more respect for them after making this tbh I learnt a lot. They do ‘feel’ a little like oil pastel when using them come to think of it. Just not quite as soft 😊
@mqbush Жыл бұрын
Is it me, or did you only draw two lines with the yellow pencil in the break test? Also, the scientific part of me wonders if your scale reads pressure the same all the way across the surface. Maybe try repositioning the paper so each line is in the exact center. and see if it affects the results? Overall, a very informative video, I know a lot more about art pencils now :)

Why yes, yes I did, just to see if anyone noticed! 🎉😅 Hmm good question.. I will review and take it under advisement for the next pencil lot I shoot 🙌🏻 I’m glad you enjoyed it!

On Amazon the set of 72 come in 2 different tins. One has a Flamingo on the tin, the other tin has a butterfly like in this video. Whats the difference?
@StuffBySunshine10 ай бұрын
They changed the branding halfway through 2023, the flamingo was one of the original tin designs they had. I’d likely go for the newer design as Prismacolor is one of those pencils have fakes available on Amazon. I’m sure the fakers will catch up with the new branding but there’s less of a chance you’ll get dodgy pencils if you go for the current look box☺️

I have an older set of Prisma's and some newer Prisma pencils. The older set seems much better quality wood than the newer set. Pigment still seems as good though.
@StuffBySunshine7 ай бұрын
That's super interesting! Maybe they transitioned to enviro friendly? Sometimes wood can be a bit janky from those sources. Glad to hear the actual pigment quality is still good though :)

this is the first of 3 of your videos I have binge watched since coming across your channel today and would like to state a few points if I may. 1. Your personality is pure unadulterated sunshine and I can't even imagine you ever being down or miserable and if ever I'm feeling a bit low I'm going to come and watch one of your videos and go away like Tigger off Winnie the Pooh 😊 4. Your artwork is fantastic (I followed your Instagram link within 5 minutes of watching the second video. 5. And lastly you are absolutely gorgeous 😍 and I'm going to draw your portrait with your permission as soon as I finish the one I'm working on at the moment 🤗. keep up the superb work and anyone who doesn't agree with my observations needs a poke in the eye with the blunt end of a Caran d'ache luminance 😅

Prismacolor is not sold so openly here…….Europe. There’s something with one or some of the colours that doesn’t meet safety controls……that being said, of course Amazon has it and used sets are available at high prices.
@StuffBySunshine11 ай бұрын
Apparently you need to be a bit careful buying prismacolors on Amazon. They are one of the most faked pencils around and (at least here in Aus) Amazon has lots of fakes for sale.

who's the poor creature in the background yelling desperately? hope it's no one in a cage. I've read prismacolor inherit from charisma pencils that stopped production years ago. I still have many charisma and I used to love them for their softness and ease of blending... BUT some color is too soft and it's very hard to draw details with them. I prefer polychromos for this. I think no one here in Italy sells primsacolor. I think I love you - but please don't keep animals in cage: they get insane for desperation and the animal I can hear sounds desperate
