I think this will go the way of Dubai's islands of the world. First who is supposed to use this? Not locals they are poor except the Royal family. Not female visitors as they have a strict religious code that would make it a little awkward to wear a hijab on that. Not to mention no skin allowed to show. Visitors? Nope. Qatar will impose their restrictions with the entire world watching. Not very welcoming. Besides tourism isn't their thing. The journalist suddenly dying during the games is a huge scandal. I doubt it will ever open especially having missed the games deadline. May be it will be dismantled and sent to little Qatar aka Florida. It will be a huge success in Orlando.

I don't think the park looks like a mess at all. The theme is original and seems well excecuted, and the slide tower looks like it'll be by far the best in the world. I'm just baffled that they decided to build it on an unstable man made sand island years after similar projects in dubai have failed spectacularly. Then there's the kafala system in Qatar which makes it likely that foreign workers were flown in, underpaid and possibly even died building this. And it's going to be pretty ironic that this oil themed park will eventually but definitely succumb to the rising sea levels that global fossil fuel consumption is largely responsible for :)

I mean I understand the importance oil has played in their history. But it’s undoubtedly tacky to celebrate and theme around something that is actually destroying the planet before our eyes and the reason for many wars.
@TheOnlyBongo2 жыл бұрын
I feel I wanted to say the same thing, but then I remember the plethora of US-based theme parks I enjoy that are centered around similar ideals of theming itself to the local industry or history, which may or may not be problematic depending on who you ask. Two of Knott's Berry Farm's most well-loved attractions, the Calico Mine Ride and Timber Mountain Log Ride, revolved around gold mining and logging resource extraction. Hersheypark in Pennsylvania has origins in being the entertainment complex for the company town of Hershey, PA, and Dollywood's history going back to Silver Dollar City and the Rebel Railroad has been covered by others I believe. Although I still agree the idea is absolutely tacky for such an entertainment complex to be built and celebrate an industry such as that, and what that has done to both the globe as a whole as well as internally with local politics and culture of Qatar.

It's kind of sad there isn't a mention of the what amounts to slave labor used by Qatar to build their infrastructure and projects. Considering how many die there every year stuck in that country its a big deal.

An amusement park themed around gas and oil. This sounds like something from a comedy movie. This is real?

Yes because if there's one thing I'd love to think about when swimming at a water park in the middle of the desert, it's the thought of flaming petrol. Great theming guys! 👍

"Featuring heat and special effects..." just open a window, you'll find heat. Will they spray petroleum odors in the park to enhance immersion ?

Isn't there a real water shortage there in particular, but all over the world?Then expensive to recycle,and keep said water safe?
@audreyschomer83572 жыл бұрын
I have alway love a good waterpark, but even though the rides look fun I think I'm being drawn away by the design and theme. It looks dirty and run down making me feel like it's not safe or could be contaminated in some way. I don't know if others feel this way but I hope the theming doesn't make the park flop.

Maintenance? Rescue? This cannot be real. Edit: yes, I see that it exists and is actually a physical thing The water park cannot be a real business. It has to be a tax shelter or money laundering front. Nobody is going to ride the rides or eat the food.

Why don’t they make a “world is your oyster” water theme park? Since their country economy based on Pearling and fishing back in the days before oil, i think it’s way better than celebrating a founding that cause a global warming and oil spill lol
