Thanks for this video! This was exactly my problem. Just popped open one of my monitors and boom...domed out capacitor. Now for the fun part...

Dan, I'm soooo happy I could help. And yes, the fun part is coming up! It's only semi stressful but if you know how to solder, a few bucks can save a speaker that cost hundreds!! Let me know how it goes!

Hey. Thank you so much for this! If it hadn't been for this video i would never even try fixing my monitor. But i opened it up and saw that i too had a faulty capacitor. Ordered a new one with same specs and... Worked perfectly. :)

Did you not have to get on the underside of the board to desolder and resolder the new capacitor on? I my MR8 MkII just did this to me. Thanks very much for posting this video! I'd like to be able to fix this myself to avoid a a pricey repair but I'm nervous lol. Thanks again!

Haha! I know the feeling! It finally got to the point that it was either I try to fix it, or it sits in a box for years... lol. If you think you know the part to replace, give it a go!! I believe in you!

Can you please tell me exactly what kind of capacitor to buy and does it need the prongs? Thanks so much for this.

Needs some kind of prongs, but as you can see, I used a different prong capacitor and just soldiered a wire around

I have exactly same issue with 1 of my mackie mr5 mk2s and i have replaced both large black caps and it still has the hum, any help would be great thank you
@DonZiglioni3 жыл бұрын
Replace them all! From my experience, it's a cap problem. If you have a multimeter.... you can test their status. Something is wrong.... so use 'signal flow theory' and figure it out. The problem is right in front of you!!

I have the same issue. We have replaced all 4 capacitors and the buzzing sound is still there. Do you have any other idea what it could be?
@rsvp98166 жыл бұрын
the problem is you have a mackie.
@DonZiglioni3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm.... its really hard to say, but maybe the caps you replaced them with were the wrong specs?? Or soldered incorrectly. Go in and re-inspect it. Use a multimeter to dig into the issues. May take a combo of youtube videos to solve it. Let me know what happens!!

I've had this issue in both my Mackie MR8's. One would constantly blow out the same capacitor after a few minutes/hours/days. Surely this is a design fault?
@DonZiglioni3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Especially if it KEEPS happening?? Sounds like an electrical problem. Are they plugged in to the outlet or a surge protector/power regulator?
@Topgun5884 жыл бұрын
why did you use an axial capacitor?
@DonZiglioni4 жыл бұрын
It was all the store had... I could have ordered one, I just wanted to test it, and fix it that same day and didn't want to wait for shipping lololol. That's the only reason!!
