First time making these, and I'm on my second pair! My best friend is a Michigan fan and I'm a Buckeye fan. So I'm making team colors for us! Thank you for an awesome tutorial!

@@Aroundtoit3712 Allow me to share with you the inspiration your slippers have provided for me in a time of grief. I lost my mom and my youngest sister within 8 weeks of each other Jan 27 2023 (mom) and March 29 2023 (sister). My mom knit slippers for me to hand out to the needy here in the cold Yukon winters. In her memory, I am carrying on her act of kindness. I prayed for a pattern and YOUR video came to me. I finished my first slipper yesterday and am working on the matching pair! The checkerboard style for me represents not only our grandmothers, mother's etc, but how life can be like a checkerboard and how we all play a part as we move across the checkerboard of life. You and your video have now played a part! I am knitting 26 pairs in honor of my mom and my sister, as a way to thank all the hospice nurses who became part of the checkerboard of our life (and at the end of life). I have quite a task ahead of me, however, it's a labour of love,💕 to try and complete this by the end of March. Your videos have made it so easy for me to follow. On one slipper (of a pair) I take one square and knit in a completely different colour from the pattern to represent each individual nurse who poured out love and compassion and helped me to bring out some beauty in the ashes of grief I found myself wallowing in. I pray my story has somehow blessed you and I thank you for showing up and teaching me the checkerboard pattern. I truly love this pattern. Blessings to you❤️

Thank you!! Every time someone leaves a comment thanking me for the tutorials I thank my mom for teaching me. It's been a few years now that she passed and know she would be so happy others are knitting these as well.🥰

Oh my goodness. I have taken my knitting apart 4 times and thank you so much. I finally got it. I will continue until I complete my slipper. Thank you Shirley for your tutorials. I’m not ready to move on to lesson 3. But I will get there. Too bad we didn’t have you tube in the late 60’s. 😂😂😂

Hi Shirley, I'm so happy to find your video on the checkerboard slippers! My aunt used to make them and they were my favorite slippers, where can i get your pattern please?

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry I do not have a written pattern. My mom taught me how to make these before she passed. The instructions are in my head and I have not been able to get them from my head to paper. That is why I decided to do videos. I have searched for written patterns but haven't found any yet. If I ever find a written pattern I will post in the community tab on my KZbin channel. Again thank you and sorry.🥰

What is the purpose of turning your work? My grandmother made these, happy to find you😊

I am not sure I am clear on your question. Can you give me more details? Thanks for watching.

I actually figured it out. Just learning how to knit. Turning has to do with the front and the back.

So confusing, i cant see anything. I have tried this 6 times, and iam, finally giving up, the switching of the balls of yarns and the angle of the cam ...for a beginner, it's helpful to see a clear close video. I wish i could have made these 😢

@smiller1132 What device are you watching on? If you need extra help I can set up a Zoom meeting and walk you through the steps. If you are watching on a phone turning your phone to landscape view also helps. In settings on your phone you should be able to slow the video down.

You definitely can. The slippers probably turn out a bit bigger depending on the weight of the yarn. This is just how my mom taught me. Thanks for your question.
