I think the chances of it working are very high, if it wasn't a NEC/TOKIN issue it wouldn't have recovered the first time from the heat.

@joesaiditstrue2 жыл бұрын
for anyone who's attempting to remove the NEC Tokins, get yourself a flat blade exacto knife and just work the blade underneath each cap and slice them off the board, takes about 15 seconds per cap, no heat required, and the pads will be fine

All i could hear was “Hello darkness my old friend.. ive cone to talk to you again.” When the ps3 when black at white in the end. It was worth a shot. Never did trust myself to replace the capacitors on my ps3s when working on them. Normally over heating issues but you may be able to find a replacement motherboard for this console. It just surprises me how often they got the YLOD.. usually a good reball helps. Im actually watching this on one of my restored ps3s lol testing it out after putting it back together
@JoeyDoesTech3 жыл бұрын
Haha the irony of you watching on a PS3 is amazing! Thanks for watching MITSI :) Do you think it's just because the consoles are old now?
@MITSI19913 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyDoesTech well considering they had to cut corners due to a law that was passed due to lead being in solder. The consoles both ps3 and xbox360.. the solder melts at a lower temp than its suppose to. I mean its hard to believe but the original phat ps3s are 15 years old! So age does has a factor but also just abuse over the years. On and off, dust build up ect ect. Sadly nothing is made to last except for a nintendo 64 😂

You actually forgot to solder a wire on the rsx and cell side. Check psx forum tutorial. Use a high gauge wire. Let this ps3 live again!

You have to replace them all. Otherwise this fix would Not work. And you Need to Check with a continuity Tester if the Caps Are realy soldered to the pads.

Fair effort Joey. It's frustrating that it did work that time, so there can't be much wrong with it. I know you're emotionally attached to this one as it's for someone rather than just for yourself. Don't give up yet - give it a rest. If you focus on the Slim PS3 first, at least you haven't got the physiological pressure of someone's property. You'll be more inclined to take calculated risks and may even learn more towards the OG model. PS, sorry I missed the livestream - my head has been fuzzy after my second Covid jab, so I'd never have been able to focus on it.
