For me, the pacing isn't even an issue. 5+ hours of Dune basically disappears into nothing since you get so drawn into the world, the conflict, the characters, the story and environment. The lore saves the 5+ hour trek from being a slugfest

Lowik's take on the Dune series so far is pretty spot on. Part 1 in retrospect is more slow and it can't really stand alone, however I do think that was a creative choice by Denis that works great for the series. Part 1 is definitely more of a setup and intro to the universe without a big ending. Definitely left me wanting more and to tbh a little disappointed when I first saw it but all that setup pays off in Dune Part 2. An instant classic series and reminds me of the epic Dark Knight trilogy when it all came out. It's going to inspire generations to come. Great video review!

After he drinks the water of life Paul is cold as ice and an excellent leader but at that point its all calculated and manipulation, he can see the future and has all knowledge and wisdom of basically all of his ancestors to the point where he can have conversations with them by basically isolating everything he gets from that person in his mind. He's way more a con man that fell into being the head of a cult rather than an actual messiah or leader.

Not overrated but I did feel the final third was rushed and therefore provided little payoff for certain events

I too have never read the books and got into Part One because I didn't know what else to watch. Now I'm not into Sci-Fi, but I knew it was going to be a good movie after seeing the level of quality that went into the cinematics. That said, I'm going to have to treat this movie like I did Oppenheimer; rewatch it a couple times to get a clearer understanding of what's going on.

Found part one boring 🙄 so havent seen this one. And why would I. Seen SyFy Channels mini series several times.... same story told way better.

The movie is not overrated nor horribly paced like some say it is, they just dont like well written stories that take time to build up.

Great films with horrible pacing IMO - so many beautiful but unnecessary dessert scenes. I hope someone makes a fan edit trimming the fat and combing them into one Return of the King length film.

I guess it really depends on the viewer because I think every issue I had with the pacing in part one was improved in this movie

you just have tiktok brain rot. the pacing might be annyoing for anyone with the attention span of a donut

@@lowikk oh, the pacing is definitely worse in the first movie. I couldn't believe on rewatch that there was still an hour of film after the fall of Arakeen. That's just insanely indulgent.
@8301TheJMan9 ай бұрын
@@sneakykangarooman442 No - it wasn't insanely indulgent. They cut a crap ton of important sub-plots. Which scene do you think shoulda been cut? Just because a movie is long doesn't mean it has poor pacing. They went with the bare-minimum of the first half of the book. Pretty much every scene in both movies are required, unlike some of hs other films where i would agree, specifically on Arrival. Now, i love that movie, but the amount of time they followed the characters just walking back and froth from the alien vessel, had to have legit added up to like 10 minutes of pointless walking scenes. in my opinion, for no justifiable reason. Now that was a bit overly indulgent imo. Especially because tit wasn't until the last15 minutes or so of the film really cam together and made wading through a bloated overly slow film worth tit in the end due to how brilliant the concept was and how excellent it was in it's execution. Dennis' done similar stuff in his other films as well, (especially "Bladerunner 2049"), and though i love all of them too, but i could definitely understand people finding some of these movies too slow for that very reason. However, when it comes to the Dune movies, there literally was no fat left to trim, as i stated earlier - pretty much every scene and sublot in these movies are required in order to fully cover the both the story and conveying the world building. Personally i think everything lading up to the Harkonnen attack not only could have been cut, but in fact there shoulda been additions. And it it came to the two final battles, though spectacular - i really wish they were much longer, especially the final one in Part 2.

@@sneakykangarooman442 The 1st movie was made from the book. So the time Paul and Jessica were in the desert was exactly what it should have been. The story had to be told. Otherwise, it would not have been told. Personally i think it is "indulgent" to want to rewrite a 60-year-old Classic story.
