Oh I think many scotch whiskies are superb on opening!

Scotch in general does seem to have fewer issues on opening - though many still improve greatly with a bit of breathing room in my experience. Every bottle is a journey, as they say. Cheers!

Good opening statement on your process - sound reasons indeed. I think I already commented on your previous FRSBS vid, but in short I like it, but I like the FRSB a bit more.

Cheers! Going to try it again soon against another bottle, be very interesting to see if it starts to chill out even more!

I like this Four Roses! I prefer scotch and excellent rye but when I have a Bourbon I have enjoyed this one!

A fair follow up review on FRSBS, I've only tried the FRSB so far but I'm impressed enough to be seriously considering purchasing the FR single barrel next ! I've learnt from experience that certain bourbons do need time to open up fully but at £60 you'd expect it to be fairly good even at a fresh crack but hey ho ! You live and learn. As for a fair comparison, you should have tried it against WR double oaked (drinking a dram as I type this) as that sits at around the £55 mark, has (obviously) bags of barrel goodness (being a double barrelled bourbon), okay it's at a lower proof but flavour wise it would have been a fairer comparison especially as WTRB is such a big hitter (a truly wonderful pour). Thanks Tom for this video, keep it up buddy 🙂

Cheers Shaun! I do love WR Double Oaked but I find it such a sweet and chocolatey pour that I rarely use it to compare, it's so far away from this I don't know if it'd help. Strong recommend on the FR Single Barrel though - it's been a few years since I've had any but it's one I want to add back to the shelf soon! Cheers!

Just curious; I know you get asked this quite a lot but, when you're not tasting for a review, do you add water to your whiskies? Especially with anything over 50% (or if it's hot for other reasons), just get a straw and put 2-3 drops in.

I have never done that I thought about it but I only like to drink mine neat.

So - there's two reasons really. Primarily it's just to give all whiskies a fair chance, testing them as they come. And on occasion I have added water to a dram to see what happens, but on those occasions, it often ends up having little effect or can even make it worse. There's a bit of a misconception about adding water to whisky that it always softens it, but actually it can often amplify some of the more intense notes, so I've not done it for a good while. But given how many people have asked, I should probably start doing it again! Cheers!

@@brendanwoerner3352 Cheers! The BT collection is a work in progress. Very difficult to find many over here that aren’t 3-4x MSRP sadly.
