actually as a guy who works in construction, you would not believe how many people share the same name here (currently we have three people with the same name, among a few others who share the same name) so my headcanon is that it's not a 'one true Duke' thing, and it's actually that all three share the same first name and everyone just calls them Duke

First off, this was a great video and retrospective. High quality and very entertaining. This theme holds a special place in my heart. I had the vehicles 2 through 6 but didn't really see the need to buy the smallest set as my younger brother had that one and I already had the red rock monster. Even still, I sort of viewed my five vehicles as a complete set, something I was proud to have collected as I was never really able to buy every set of a Lego theme. I remember driving these bad boys around on the carpet and stairs, going on expeditions looking for monsters and crystals. You're right about the rock monsters being the main draw, and I also really liked the crystal pieces. The thing I remember most from these sets is the claw digger's sheer destructive capability, you could swing those arms with some serious force. I definitely chipped and bashed up those orange claw pieces on my set lol.

Great video! I only bought the mech back in the day, to get a rock monster (an adorable little figure with fun proportions) and the new diamond element. It's so funny to me to see Power Miners as nostalgic theme that people fondly remember now, because I always remember that parts of the AFOL community HATED it when it came out. It was not well received and was the butt of jokes for a while. It makes me wonder if newer themes that were somewhat lukewarm during their run, like Nexo Knights, will get similar nostalgia 10+ years from now.

This decade was a Lego renaissance, and the prices felt very accessible. This line still looks playful, my favourite were Atlantis and Galaxy Squad, both of them on the more "mature" style, Atlantis first wave still being my fave Lego series ever, and Galaxy Squad having the most solid and clean builds I've ever seen, but being the one on the ending tale of this incredible wave of in-house themes and unfortunately failing soundly, almost as much as Alien Conquest

I loved it because it was a very industrial theme. And lets face it, Lego excels when it comes to sets that are heavy machinery because it usually means more cool play features (a rotating drill, a large bucket, big wheels, missiles, mechs, etc.) If there are any themes I'd love to come back, it would be Power Miners, Castle (Fantasy), Space Police, Pirates, Agents (original) and Mars Mission (this last one I never got to get any sets of, although I wanted them badly). I also never noticed how well they nailed the distinct "factions" (for lack of better term) of these themes until now Edit: I also just remembered that me and my brother LOVED Power Miners so much that when we were little, we asked our grandma if she could make us Power Miner costumes for Halloween (mine was the red Rock Monster, my brother was a Power Miner).

I have a theory why this set didn't sell as well as they hoped for. Put it simply: The Clone Wars was airing at that time, and it was the biggest commercial for the Star Wars Lego sets you could hope for. Having a giant drill vehicle was cool, but commanding an army of clones was cooler. Especially with AT-TEs. Power Miners is was still my third favourite theme as a kid, behind Star Wars (cuz it had cool blasters) and Lego City (I was into cars and services like the 9 yo that I was). What could've help this theme would be some proper cartoon shorts and maybe a page of the lore in the Lego catalogues to get you interested into reinacting that. Also knowing the names of the monsters before you bought the sets and saw the instructions would've been beneficial as the are so cheesy and cool it's amazing.

Could you do a video on the first two waves of Ninjago? So much nostalgia for me it’s what go me into lego

I always loved looking at these sets in lego catalogues, but I never got any. Except for one set from the last wave, when they started wearing silver helmets. It wasn't a great set, basically just a car.
@CheeseyStudios Жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately the last wave has nothing on this first one. Loved the silver Power Miners though
