Man, you are one of the best people out there for getting an honest review, anyone that thinks any of those problems are acceptable to compete at the price range is out of their mind IMO. It has a ton of potential which I hope I show but out of the box its got a lot of issues like the X8 from TronXY that Isabella and I put together on the Community Build. I think its a TronXY issue

Eddie Moser the problem is they're both right it can be a great printer while the same time being a horrible printer the problem is they did not handle that replies correctly very unprofessionally being mean and nasty deserves nothing more than a delete so good on you for deleting those immature posters It looks like you handle reviews similar to how I handle reviews twice first I review what I received second like the Mythbusters I get the results and review that my overall review is determined by how difficult it was to get from the first one to the second one :-) and whether or not it was worth that effort to get to that end result both in time difficulty and cost Don't worry about the negative comments just keep doing what you're doing I love watching your videos
@andersstromqvist22116 жыл бұрын
Depends on how you look at it. You can get an ok printer for under 300$ but you cant get a great printer for that kind of cash. but if you want a great printer and spend under 600$ it really is a great start and many of the ok printers for under 300$ is not as good base to start with. to some a printer is just the sum of it's parts and many cheap printers will need upgraded psu's and electronics anyway.
@nerys716 жыл бұрын
Anders Strömqvist you can get a truly great printer for under $200. Ender 2. I have over 30 printers and it is without question so far the best printer i have ever toucbed.
@ThePhantazmya6 жыл бұрын
Anders It might be a good base to build on but honestly if you have to replace so many parts, wouldn't you be better off just building what you want from scratch? If you buy this kit it seems that half of your investment is straight up garbage. Any kit should work out of the box without tinkering and replacing half the parts. It's just bad business. If they wanted to sell a "good base" then they should cut the fat and market it as a shell that you put your own heatbed and extruder on for $100 less.
@andersstromqvist22116 жыл бұрын
I would not call that a great printer with those limitations. it may be great if you want to go pla only. but what i mean by great it should handel all materials poly carbon etc. Just from the spec sheet you can se that that machine is under powered wich is not a problem if you only want to print pla petg. But there will be nothing left of that machine if you want to extend it's properties.
@AndreGuerrieri5 жыл бұрын
I believe your review is spot on. It is NOT a good machine out of the box. It's an excellent base for a killer printer if you properly upgrade it. I have one on order and I also have $200 worth of upgrades on order as well. So at around $530 USD, it will out perform A LOT of 3D printers on the market.

Love your reviews, as always. I got the TronXY X5S back in September after watching many reviews of it and other 3D printers. After watching many 3D printer KZbinrs for almost a year, I was anxious to get started. And the one piece of advice I heard over and over was that if I wanted to really learn about 3D printing, I should start with a kit. The frame and dual Z-axis lead screws (as opposed to the X5) made this look like a solid printer. And it's the shortfalls of this printer that have taught me a LOT about 3D printing. Having to upgrade the parts to make it print better was what I wanted to do. As I wanted to add a BLTouch, and the firmware was not flashable, I got a different controller. Every shortfall of the printer was a learning experience, which has given me no end of enjoyment as I tune and tinker. A future upgrade is a 24V power supply for the heat bed. I thought it was both 12V and 24V, but that bit from this video really helps me understand the issue. The learning and tinkering never ends. Thank you.

I for one completely respect honest reviews an wholeheartedly support you in your endeavor to provide them to the public whether they be good bad or ugly. Having bought my first 3d printer last year, a CR-10, I did a lot of research before purchasing and thankfully knew what the potential pitfalls were going in thanks to honest reviews. Had I not done that, I wouldn’t have been prepared for some of the common CR-10 issues and would most likely have given up. I know own 3 3d printers, all with pitfalls that I knew about before purchasing, and was completely prepared for them. Keep up the great honest reviews, they are truly a service to the community, I for one look forward to many more in the future, G’day from Aus.

Glad to see that you are sticking to your honest review. This is just the information that I am looking for, since I have pretty much decided to go with the upgraded version of the Tronxy X5SA Pro. I already knew that this unit has some issues that need to be addressed, and that there are several upgrades that are recommended. The 2019 version seems to come with some of the upgrades you mention, and I believe it will be a great starting point. I just finished building a CNC router from scratch, which was a lot of work, and required quite a bit of adjusting to get everything working properly. Of course I'm already planning several modifications. So building a 3D printer will be a nice distraction. Pay no attention to the haters, your honesty ensures the reviews will be exactly other builders need to make informed decisions. Thanks for the great reviews, keep them coming!

Oh this is great stuff, your explanation is simply spot on. To say these issues would be ok is just ridiculous. Thanks for being honest and critical where you should be critical! Joined a co-worker in buying this printer and watched your videos after we ordered it.... I know, do research first :) But thankfully for your two videos I know what I have to wait for, I need to prepare myself for what will be arriving and the tweaking I might have to do. This will be my first 3d printer and at start I will do inserts for board games so might work without to much tweaking but thanks to these two videos I know some more effort might be needed to be put in for more advanced stuff and where I can look for good information. Thanks for coming back to the printer and telling us how you got it to work even though the reason for you returning was not the most happy one.

Thank you Joe for going back and putting the effort into getting this printer working properly, I stick by my opinion that I don't think for one second that it was intended for a first printer though and your original review bashed it too much for not being noob friendly. certainly turned out to be a pretty good printer in the end.

As to the 24 volt bed on a 12 volt system, I used the 12 volts from the controller board to close a solid state relay that in turn controls a 24 volt power supply connected to the bed. Got the 20 amp relay on eBay for around seven bucks. It switches the AC going to the power supply. The power supply is an old 24 volt battery charger I had laying around. I like this because the printer controller board is not having to handle the current for the bed so it runs much cooler. And all that ugly equipment is under the bench and out of sight. Thanks for the truthful review. It is a big help.

Absolutely spot-on. As I am typing this, my X5SA is printing a calibration cube behind me and now, after I did quite a couple upgrades on it, it seems to be working just spot-on. It was a great experience to do the upgrades, to get a SKR-board and configure everything exactly how I need it, but you need to be prepared for it. Just like you said, not a machine for a beginner at all.

Hi, you're absolutely right. I started with a 3d printer made of metal from scratch. With the learning that I have been seeing videos and forums, I learned a lot, I recognize that I still have a lot to learn. I have a coreXY and a prusa I3. I recently decided to buy a kit on the net. I was shocked by the quality, above all with the lack of mechanical quality, with regard to alignments and correct positioning of the parts to assemble. When I finish my research, I will post videos about all these problems I encountered, and the resolution.

Thanks Joe. I bought this printer partly on the basis of your previous review purely because I wanted a printer that is "OK" and that is a good starting point so that I could build a decent printer FROM it, not one that will work out of the box I want to tinker. This shows great promise once I upgrade it first to 24v and then all the other upgrades you (and others, because you are not alone in your views on this machine) have recommended. This is a work in progress kit and should be considered as that when you spend just over $200 for it, which is all I paid.

As a point of information, your review helped me decide to order a TronXY X5S. I fully understand what I am getting into with this kit. This is my second printer (the first is a decent i3 clone). I can print the needed upgrades for belt-routing and frame alignment/stiffening. Will likely add an A/C heated bed, and replace the electronics - though in stages. There is an odd aspect of psychology when folk have to struggle a bit, they tend to become invested, and defensive/aggressive. Years ago this was DOS "power users" who claimed they would *never* use Windows. Designing a CoreXY printer, but got hung up trying to do something clever with Z-motion. Bothered by the fact I cannot work on later aspects. Can use the TronXY printer to go through the exercise with A/C heated bed, and perhaps the g2core software. So you helped. :) Update ... Largely satisfied after some upgrades: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2861239

Good to see others plotting the same roads I am. I'm very interested in this printer, since it's a larger corexy. Thanks for sharing your experience, and the link. I had an i3 clone that I brought up to the level of the likes of Prusa's genuine printers. I've been debating if I can do that again, or if this would be too cheap of a base to start from.

I'm sure others have posted this but Tronxy has fixed alot of the issues you mention. When I get my X5S the belts were parallel, and it came with a 12v bed. The steppers were still turned down too low but they weren't all the way down. I understand your issues with this out of the box. Most of the issues are fairly easy to fix. If someone wants a good basic platform and likes to tinker with things it's an absolute great printer. If someone needs a perfect "no need to tinker" printer it may not be for them.

Realizing this is a several-year old commentary, I want to say this is an "outstanding" report. I have this printer, sitting in the box, brand new, unbuilt, for several years, while I used my Creality Ender 5+ which has performed very nicely... meanwhile, my Creality Ender-4, sitting with a blown driver, newly outfitted and working with 10s mainboard, has now filled in for the h-bot, not corexy, smaller size models (replacing a Wanhao Duplicator 4)... and finally, I see that I can build the X5S, and with a few good, and needed, mods, have another, great, printer, ready to make parts. You commentary I find very uplifting, and soon I shall set to the X5S. Thanks!

I've got mine last week, and they've changed a few things: - 12V heat bed - 5 minutes 20° to 60°, but the cabling gets HOT, and mine was missing a solder joint so only 2/3s heated up - better belt routing, including a second metal plate at the X carriage for belt mounting - metal mounting plates for the Z motors The file names on the SD card say "v2.02". But this printer definitely has its fanboys that behave like a**holes. Your review, with the stated target audience, was correct.

I think I am one of those people in the actual community that loves your videos and is watching this video with a dropped jaw as result of not understanding that people can be so terrible and short sighted.. So therefore I thank you for everything you do. Honestly. ;-)

I have been following you since your first videos... there are only a handful of people that can create really good content and you are one of them. My first 3D printer was a Creality CR-10 because all the reviewers where telling amazing stories and I had nothing but problems since first day. I did tons of mods to try to make it a reliable machine, ruby nozzle, bondtech extruder, insulated heated bead, noctua fans, marlin firmware, otoprint all and many others... I ended trowing it to the trash because of all the frustration, then I went for the Monoprice Select Mini, had to modify it and upgraded too now I have ordered a Prusa i3 mk3 and I have not blame anyone for my mistakes or my bad luck with printers... I have learned that there is a lot of work and effort that you need to invest on this bunch of trial and error and the technology is simply not there yet... but without people like you that inspires others and try to put out there a honest review the frustration would be even bigger and the and the community would simply not be as good as it is. Keep your hard work.... you a great at this you have gone a long way to let ignorant people to take way your passions....

The whole point of a review is to point out the good and bad points of a product - not to gloss over them or make excuses for it. Respect for totally honest review. I’ve bought this printer, but the new x5st version. I know it has issues, they have actually resolved the belt alignment issue, but still could be better, they should just do away with the bearing and washer idler solution, and just pay a few pence more for a proper gt2 idler. Fortunately, I’m a printer engineer by trade, so not daunted at all by what needs doing to make this a superb unit. Already ordered corner brackets, don’t see the point of printing them when correct aluminium ones for 2020 profile are available. I hate Philips screws being used so have sourced Allen bolts to replace every one. Mine will be dual mosfet, dual psu and probably lots more mods before it ever makes a print.

You are right, your review was spot on, bravo for telling the truth! For some strange reason I bought the TronXY X5SA Pro, and it is so far not a good experience. Seems that physically it is created very well, but support is horribly lacking. This could be a great printer if they actually added support to tell users how to use it properly. Barely any documentation, email support is not enough. Shifts during large prints. I'm left to basically figure it out on my own. Build videos all have questions. I asked for documentation on supported gcode and they needed me to open the power supply to send a picture of what board I have, then sent me firmware for me to decode. I can't even tell what flavor of gcode it uses so I can slice with other slicers, like Slic3R

Hey man, i didn't see any hateful comments, but sorry to hear that you're so upset about it. Btw started printing on the Tonxy 5XSA, 40x40x40... not sure f X5S is the same. I had the same issue, but I found a way to address one of the issues you mentioned. The leveling was a pain when i found the hot tip is closer to the bed in the middle and further from the bed near the edges. I at first thought the bed was curved, but I found the problem. The left and right rods in the middle with the screw threaded pole are fastened so tight, its arching the aluminium frame. Once I loosen them, there was a stress release *clank. And when i did a leveling again, the hot tip moved relatively flat across the whole hotbed. I had to balance the tightening of the left and right middle rods as if its loose I will get rough surfaces.

I cant agree more, I have the same issues with a few of my viewers, I think the hateful comments are just them trying to get attention, deleting the comments is the best course of action Also totally agree with all the flaws you mention re the X5S, I found the same when I reviewed mine and I have started a set of videos to show how to upgrade, starting with getting Marlin to 1.1.8 and then off that Melzi controller so other features can be added. I appreciate the fact that you chose to do a followup video on the Tronxy X5S printer. As a person considering getting into 3D printing the reviews going from "This printer is the bee's knees" to your review which basically called the printer a pile of scrap metal, were confusing to say the least. I have noticed the same range of great to terrible reviews on other printers as well. One item lacking in all; reviews was a discussion regarding print accuracy. In my previous life as a mechanical engineer the Makerbot that we owned was used to make assembly jigs and fixtures where accuracy was more important than print quality. I guess what I would prefer to see in a review of a 3D printer would be: 1 performance "out of the box", 2 performance improvements with minimal, low dollar, modifications, and 3 maximum performance with unlimited (almost) modification. If that is beyond the scope of what you would prefer to do, so be it. Most of the review videos comment on at least one of the shortcomings of the X5S printer, and there are others offering relatively inexpensive solutions. Now there appears to be a new model, the X5SA which offers auto bed leveling and possibly more, hard to tell. I guess that a little confusion is typical of a new technology. I look forward to your review of the Tronxy X5SA

We need more people to be more critical about these products. Just because the community is full of tinkerers who are able and willing to throw more time and money into a kit to get it working nicely doesn't mean that everyone is. I don't want to pay 300 euro for a buggy mess that I have to do major surgery on. Even if I wanted a kit to doctor up and make my own, I would still expect a working printer out of the box. If I accept buying a kit that is less than plug and play, then I want to know what I'm walking into so I can factor that into my calculations and comparisons. So many reviewers gloss over the negatives and just try to sell you the machine without giving a thought to who is the appropriate buyer of that machine and what that person is going to expect. Keep being honest and thorough.

Thank you about this honest review. Don't bother the haters. This is how the world is. Yet, I have a question for you. If you had to choose one printer only (home use, not necessary to work with with customers), and could chose between the next three: Prusa i3 MK3, Ultimaker 2+ and BCN3D Sigma R17. Which one would you choose? Enclosure for exotic filaments is important, as much as having a fine resolution prints and being an open-source. Dual extrusion is optional but a good plus. This makes me really unsure about which one to have in order to focus on one that I could improve over time but being robust and secure with basic setup (don't mine having a kit). Thank you and have a nice day.

No hate here. I love your honesty and I am glad you are not one of these sponsorship "I love this printer" after making just a benchy channels. Keep on doing what you are doing. Ignore the haters.

Hi Maker Noob I find your videos quite good and enjoy them because your reviews seem serious and you are a capable 3d printer enthusiast. All the people who just write a trash can talk and do not participate in a serious debate about the products you show and that you should also have your own opinion about as certain youtubes do not respect or can comprehend in their heads serious is not worth listening to! It's good that you can distinguish between dirt and cinnamon :)

Well I'm not a kid but I did saw a few very positive reviews on the x5s... So I went and bought, actually the x5sa (by the time I decide to to buy it the X5SA came out) I'm a bit disappointed but as it turns out the x5sa had some issues from the x5s addressed... Wish I saw your review. Thanks for the honest review! Keep it up.

Thank you for giving an Honest Review of this printer. It is a CHEAP printer :), but it has Great potential, no the electronics are not good they suck, but we still Love it. Im New to 3d printing they told me I was crazy to get this printer, but I did , I learned Fast how to Rebuild a hotend, how to keep this printer from jamming, I lost two hotends, to jams in the screw pipe, bought new ones, rebuilt it and got no james for 20 prints, then I left the filament in the printer between prints and it jammed again in the same place. so I rebuilt my hotend a Second time. got it back working great, I ordered 4 more 40mm pipes and Steel nozzles. once i get the steel nozzles I will Rebuild the hotend better. I want to try out carbon fiber and nylon filaments. so again Thank you for the truthful reviev of the TRONXY X5S. She has issues out of the box but so much potential. keep making these great informative videos. Thank you Damian :)

Thanks for what you do Joe. Sending Love. Mark Like you I got a Trnxy when that's not what I ordered and they have a lot to answer for. I've now joined my local Makespace so I can use their printers to make replacement parts and get it working.

Oh forgot to tell you, I have the upgraded version of the TRONXY X5S printer, the belt attachments on the carriage are now separated so the belts are now going straight , it also came with updated firmware Marlin 1.1.7. so the maker is listing to the community about the issues with this printer. I ordered mine straight from china, took over a week to get here. next we need to get them to change the power supply to 24v so it has the power it needs for the hotend and bed and stepper motors. Thank you Damian

100% AGREE. im a nrwbie, bought a tronxy x3a on the strength of reports and groups saying it was awesome. It sat for a year assembled but prints were unuseable. utter crap. Now ive 12 months under my belt and my anycubic kossel is goosed awaiting spares Ive taken my ecperience to date to try to sort the x3a. How many others got caught the same way due to the nasty bar stewards who had a go because you spoke the truth. It doesnt say requires years of experience and tuning of motors etc because even if you follow our build guide it wont work. as we in the uk say "sod em" MY FRIEND. YOURE ONLY EVER HONEST TRUTHFUL AND FAIR

Thick skin my friend, that's all you need. I've been watching your channel for a while and just subbed today. I appreciate the production quality, time, and thought put into your videos. Your reviews are already better (much better, in fact) than most of the popular channels, and on par with a few others. I wish I could say that "I've learned so much" but the truth is I have really learned very little from any channel. I watch mainly to see what's new and get design ideas. I'll eventually have one of each of the 3 popular designs for 3D printers (delta, core XY, and I already have the cartesian). I had a ton of fun designing and building this printer and I look forward to the next one. Hell I'm still not done tinkering with my current printer. I'd rather tinker than print hehe... I'll just continue enjoying your content and please, keep up the good work.

Just getting back into 3d printing after a break from it, really glad to see your still making helpful videos. Don’t worry about the haters they, armchair warriors with nothing better to do than criticise. It’s your channel and your opinion and if they don’t like it they can tune out.

hi what a great video, I have just bought one and assembled it. But know nothing about the software, which slicer to use and what settings.It would be great if you could do a quick video on it.It would help a lot of us who have just bought this printer.

I'm not even subbed to your channel, but I did watch the other vid. Honesty is a hard pill for some to swallow, believe me, people hate me for my brutal honesty. Anyways great follow up, and keep the world updated as to how you make out with it. Be safe, DJ

Great review. Every 3 D printer that comes out all have room for improvements. Name any printer and there will be blogs and videos of upgrades. The manufacturing companies do a fairly good job getting a printer to the market at an affordable price. I agree with you on the power supply, it should have been matched with the hot bed. I am doing some research into Tronxy as I am looking to buy a Tronxy x5st-500 as I like the big build feature, 'go big or go home'.
@dandare25864 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reviews......it's one year later and I believe tronxy have improved on many of these issues, but not all. Having been looking for a 500mm + height core XY printer that could print flexibles, the minimum cost for non Chinese is going to be more than $3500 + 800 for an enclosure. So that is a big theoretical budget with which to address the issues with this printer, as far as I am concerned!

Don’t worry about the haters. I’ve been looking at various reviews for 3D printers. I thought your review was honest and well reasoned. I don’t want to spend my hard earned money on something that’s less than what it should be. I can’t imagine who would want to spend money on one that will need a new heat bed right after they open the box. Not to mention the lack of documentation to tweak motor current correctly. Okay, there is a community of people out there that can help you get the motor and alignment issues corrected. But still, short comings are short comings and I for one appreciate you suffering through the time spent with it rather than me doing it. As I said, I don’t want to throw out a bunch of money and I’m looking for a Dad and Son project printer. So I think I’ll be going for the Anet A8. It looks like something me and son can start printing with and upgrade as we go. I liked your review on it and it seems like the best bang for the buck project printer out there.

I have to agree with you on this, I'm looking at the Tronxy x5s as my next 3d printer and as an owner of the anet a8 which was a nightmare in one respect and extremly educational on another I wish someone had given me more info on it... I knew going in it wasn't perfect but thought I could handle it and I did but not living in a country that had easy access to parts and upgrade materials was a pain. Thanks for your honesty.... Oh and yeah I'm still probally going to buy one, lol.

You are awesome bro! Don't let negative comments get to you, the retro gaming community isn't any better! Haha I look forward to your new videos I believe that you are spot on in letting people know the pros and cons of every printer you've reviewed, especially for those who are looking to buy their first one! Thank You

Just ordered this printer and should get it in a few days. Even with all the downs sides, I think this can be a very good printer. This is my second printer. Spent a lot of time getting the other one up and running, it came as a kit also. Will definitely be upgrading all the different parts. Not sure about the bed though, as I don't print anything in ABS. I'll use my Prusa i3 for that I guess. Keep up the vids, I love 3d printing and only do it as a hobby. Definitely a learning curve to it, but there are a lot of groups and people out there to help if you are willing to ask.

Honest talk and great reviews! Don’t bother with those narrow minded. I enjoyed so much watching your channel. I got also this kit and trying to modify it as a beast. Indeed this needs a lot of work. Definitely not for the beginners.

Talking with my TronXY Contact... I Got the v5, that they added a few design changes from previous models, still trying to figure out all of the changes. (There is however a spin of the roulette wheel to see which will arrive from a warehouse... I have been told that some people recently got a v2 that has more issues that it was worth.) They added a belt alignment spacer (in metal) pre-assembled on the hotend, This now solved the belt alignment issue; However they did not adjust the stepper voltage, and i am still trying to dial that in (thanks for the breakdown on what you did) I do believe they sent an unlabeled 24v bed on mine no second pad or table for voltage, but through the warranty replacement (still waiting) they show a proper MK3a with the dual pads to 12v/24v, so i will have to wait and see. Anyway, keep up the great work, and I personally look forward to another episode!!

Thank you for your review! Are you thinking on reviewing the new X5SA ? It seems to have upgraded electronics. I like this structure, but I'm very concerned with all the pitfalls you've identified. I do DIY, I do Electronics, but don't have the experience on 3D printing to progress fast on fixing possible issues with the printer. Would be great if you could get your hands on the X5SA or even the X5ST-400 or 500. Would be great to know how Tronxy surpassed all this issues, if they have been able to do it of course. Thank you for your time.

Joe thank you for choosing to maintain your integrity despite criticism! I would unsubscribe if I thought any content creator was simply a Shill to keep Gearbest or any Manufacturer happy. There are too many "reviewers" on KZbin that flat out lie to promote their channel and keep their supplier happy. If you want to hear that everything is all sunshine and rainbows go watch another channel. No need to give a guy a hard time for giving his honest opinion. The review clearly showed his reasons that brought him to that conclusion. The fact that Joe puts at least 100hrs onto a machine before a review is a considerable amount of time and it should make his experience more valuable to you.

To be honest Joe, I can credit you, Tom Salanderer (probably misspelled that), Joel, Makers Muse, RCLife, Nerys, and a few others with giving me the gumption to even begin this hobby. My first printer was an Anet A8, and I have followed your feed religiously since that review. I now own a CR-10 and a Tevo Little Monster... You (and everyone else I listed) are my “mentors” in this strange journey! I appreciate your honesty and candor. I’ve followed your channel with great interest and enthusiasm, and this is only my second ever time posting a comment. Don’t let anyone change who you are, and keep doing what you’re doing. I am relatively new to this hobby and the insight that I would have to “rebuild” this printer out of the box is invaluable to someone in my position! Thank you for all you do and keep at it! Let the hate be like water off a duck’s back and soldier on!

A friendly reminder that presentation defines people's views more than the information that it contains. I know this video is years old now but as an observer reviewing videos for inspiration the lesson still holds true. Just because you are giving the truth or believe you are in the right or are trying to be helpful, it does not mean others automatically must obey. On a more productive note, I wonder how tronxy created such an avid following and defense for the printer. Was it really just the pricing per advertised feature set?
@spikekent6 жыл бұрын
You honesty and integrity is not in question mate. Believe me, I'd tell you if it was :-) You quite right to point out the good and bad. Like you said, we are all here to try to help people make the right decisions for their use case. Sure, we can make the changes and adjustments to a printer if we want, but a beginner may not have the skills or experience to be able to do that and may well be put off this great hobby. Oh! by the way. You call it ranting, I call it honesty. So rant away, I enjoyed it.
