Funny enough, I JUST discovered this plugin LAST WEEK to use EQ with UAD aux 2 reverb bus in Console . Love it . I just watched your older video , which was excellent. I was so excited to have a brand new video TODAY! This plugin needs explanation. Thank you so much for this video !

You’re very welcome Damon! DFC is the magic machine around here.

This is literally the first time I got to hear the DFC in action! In my humble opinion, since it IS meant to be used in “post-production”, I think it would be a perfect tool for an audio mastering engineer - and nobody ever talks about using the DFC in that aspect!
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff

Right? It’s amazing more people don’t give the DFC a look for mastering to give it that broadcast polish.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Not to mention it has all the tools you’ll ever need for mastering - EQ, compressor, limiter, expander/gate, the whole nine yards! I think probably the main reason why most people don’t look into the DFC (and especially the plugin in particular) is because it doesn’t really have an “analog” sound to it, as opposed to all the other mastering processors/plugins that seem to get all the glory (Manley, Fairchild, TG Mastering Chain, UAD Precision, etc.), but that’s also why we have analog tape emulation plugins (preferably the ones modeled after the famous 2-track machines like the Ampex-ATR 102 or the Ampex 350) to finish off your masters.

Gate is the doorman, but the expander is the bouncer. Haha I love that description

The reason that your compressor isn’t triggered is because the listen control in dynamic eq section is still in listen mode which actually bypasses the compressor section leaving only the limter activated. I think people are really messed up with the “dymamic eq”. it’s not actally dynamic eq, it’s a static eq that can be feed into the sidechain module to any of the dynamic modules(compressor, limiter, gate, expander). So if you are doing a cut there, the compressor will react less to the specific frequency range, vice versa. So what you did is actually using the dynamic eq module as a static eq while deactivating the compressor. Reading manual is important isn’t it?
@slossaudio
@slossaudio 4 ай бұрын
THIS. It is not a dynamic EQ, and if you use it that way, your chosen dynamics processor will always be bypassed. The DFC's DynamicEQ is basically a frequency dependent threshold adjustment and the listen function is only there to audition or "solo" the frequencies you're trying to tame.

Love you videos, they’re super helpful to me. I’m a touring musician and edit podcasts on the side. While I use the DFC on one off projects, I can’t use it on the road because it’s not a native plug-in. Do you think they’ll ever make it independent from the Apollo? Because of the nature of the plug-in, I doubt it…?
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! That’s an extremely good question. I would hope they can find a way since the strength of the DFC comes by mixing through it. If they don’t, we March on UA with torches and pitchforks!

@@alivenesscyclingroadcyclin2673 I was not a UAD-1 user so I missed out on that mess. It’s tough to say what will be ported to native and what won’t. I’m sure it requires new licensing agreements as well as new coding so there are probably lots of moving parts to coordinate and it’s not like they have a Google-sized team of programmers working on it. I’m hoping for some more clarity come NAMM.

At 1:35 listening through DT770 headphones, I don't hear a damn bit of difference. Am I just too old? Can people really hear 15khz that distinctly? Do my headphones suck?
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Жыл бұрын
15k is pretty much at the edge of what most humans can hear and it's really more about what that lift does to brighten the perception of the presence peak, giving it a little lift. Most music beds really don't have much going on above 15 so it's a nice spot to finesse just a hair to get a little extra detail.
@PaulEubanks

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff The DT770s are known to be ultrabright sounding headphones anyway, so it could just be that my hearing is dulled. With a high shelf filter set lower I can definitely hear the expansion in the airy frequencies, but not at 15khz.

LOL, so true, so true. Except for the part of the process where your audition is listened to by the casting director/producer/client who books you. That's really the part that matters most.
