This is the best tutorial for multiple sites I've seen so far - very clear and concise!

Thank you. Looks like I'll need to update this at some point since the point types (Survey, Origin, Project, and Shared) are slightly different in the newer versions of Revit.

Excellent video. Very useful. I had no idea you could do this. Thanks so much.

Thanks. Great example. I've always struggled with shared coordinates.

Thanks for this great tutorial. We might start a project in a big lot with multiple buildings. The principle asked me to look into it and see if we should do it in one Revit file, or multiple file with linking the way you did. What's the benefit of linking units into one file rather than just one big file? Or what if we have buildings in different shapes, like Unit1 Unit2, etc.

Depends on how the set of drawings are to be issued. If the entire project with multiple buildings are all in one set having everything in one file may make sense. The size of the file may dictate this as well. If the file size starts getting greater than 1 or 2gb, then you’ll want to split up the project files into individual buildings. If there are the same buildings repeated and each building has its own drawing set , then having linked units into a file also makes sense.

I know you mentioned that mirroring the models does not work, but is there a way to link the file to the site where one version is linked normally and the other is mirrored, or would they have to be separate files? I'm working on a ground up project where the site has two buildings that are just mirrors of each other, so I wonder if there is a way to draw 1 wall for example, and have it show up normal and mirrored on the site file via links

My understanding of the Shared Coordinate is it refers to a point and an angle off of that point to position the model instance. I'm not aware of it being able to create a mirrored condition. I'm currently doing some consulting work for a large hospitality project where the architect has issued unit models as regular and mirrored for this situation. You may be able to use Design Options and create a regular and mirrored design option. Then in the site model you can have one instance as Design Option 1 (Regular) and then the other instance as Design Option 2 (Mirrored). Not sure if you'd end up making it more complicated, but its a possible way to do it.

if not multiple buildings is it still best practice to have a separate revit site model? the building pads and topo i suppose will always be separate from the model, but good thing is it works with topo points to be entered with survey elevation numbers from survey.

It will depend on the project and how its setup. For a single family home project I typically will have the site modeled in the same file as the rest of the project. For larger projects this may not make sense to do.
