Let me know in the comments below if you can see a use for the Non-Hosted families in your work! And, if you enjoyed this Non-Hosted family creation video, try this one next! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGjaf3-voap1m5I

Thanks Rob for the video! We do Design Build Electrical projects and in our case, most of the drawings come to us via AutoCAD by General Contractors, that are also Design Build. We had a drawing come in last week that I had to quickly turn around and design to put a budget together, so I tried to dust off my AutoCAD skills and forgot how complex AutoCAD was compared to Revit! This is perfect timing to establish a great way to utilize Revit as a 2D AutoCAD alternative, especially on something that you need to quickly work on! Keep up the great work!

Exactly! Thanks for the feedback, and yes, your situation arises quite often - our own firm, and not only electrical, has struggled with that "Do we do it in CAD, or in Revit?" Well my answer has been "Revit, of course!" but with the caveat that it can still be done in a "simple" 2D manner, as long as you are "set up for it". So yes, that takes development time and effort, but can pay off in the end with only keeping one software environment up to date. I'm glad this was helpful for you, and I'll be doing more on this topic in the future. Cheers!

I assume you mean the "ditch CAD" part? Yes, it can be a tough sell - most experienced designers are rightfully worried about the time it takes to produce drawings both for the labor costs as well as meeting schedules. So the best advice I have is - there needs to be time "invested" up front to customize your Revit content for the appearance and functions you desire. We actually created a separate "project number" for our staff to put time into while learning Revit and producing the custom content. Just trying to use Revit "out-of-the-box" was definitely not for us.
