Brilliant, I think I need one. Trying to hook up my original 82 CB750 unit to my M unit using those crappy individual cables and pretty sure I have them in the wrong place!

my first comment on this channel. Thanks guys for your amazing insight to motorcycles! M unit , cables , tech talk I love this stuff. I'm 60 been a biker all my life and learned from other guys as you do! but a lot was total crap! I now have a Yamaha FJR 1300 and love it but never ever thought about doing stuff to it myself ( oil air brake fluid) I'm looking and learning from your back catalogue Stefan good job !

Where was this when I was replacing the solenoid on my 78 Gold Wing and found a previous owner had replaced the main fuse with a length of wire!? Excellent-looking kit. I liked that guy with the beard better, though.

Hey Revival Cycles I appreciate the great video. I have a question regarding when the primary wires are energized (connected to 12v battery, start switch are closed). this engages to make the mangtic coil, which closes the Positive of the Battery to the starter Motor. Why does the Primary wires not overheat and burn if is connected too the same Battery that uses alot of Amps to Power the starter motor. I hope you understand my question. Cheers David
@RevivalCycles3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, if I understand your question correctly, the primary wire is large enough to allow for the amperage we use 6awg (16mm2) which can handle as much as 480 amps depending on other factors.

Great Video! But I'm confused about the power supply for the m.unit. It comes with a 7 AWG battery cable. If I power the m.unit through this solenoid I will be using a much smaller wire, correct?
@RevivalCycles5 жыл бұрын
Good question Justin, The m.Unit comes with a 6 AWG cable. This never comes into use in our builds, in fact we're not sure why they include it, there is no scenario where the m.Unit could draw enough amperage require this gauge and installing the in line fuse would prove difficult. We've calculated that using the TXL Cross-Linked Automotive grade wire that we provide in our wire kits a 12 AWG, wire is sufficient for providing power to the m.Unit. Countless installs without issue have proven this to be true. From the battery to the solenoid and solenoid to starter motor is a different story all together and in most instances a 6 AWG is ideal. We offer two different kits on our site for this as well, a EPDM insulation and a cloth braid over PVC. -Berry shop.revivalcycles.com/revival-cycles-battery-cable-kit/ shop.revivalcycles.com/revival-cycles-cloth-battery-cable-kit/

Hi I have just started to fit this bit of kit to my bike, the problem being, the pictorial diagram showing where the terminals go are different to the ones written in the terminal assignments ones . On the picture side you have terminal 4 going to ground and no 5 going to battery on m-unit. On the written side you have terminal 4 going to battery on m-unit and no 5 going to ground . Could you please tell me which is which so i can carry on and get it right? Thanks Merv

Could you run a wire of the main fuse terminals to a key/switch which then is connected to terminal 3 thus giving you a fuse between the battery and key/switch while also allowing you to run without an M unit?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this fuse in the solenoid acts as the vehicle main fuse, then there's no real reason to utilize the waterproof main fuse holder included in your Revival Cycles Cable kit, is there?
@RevivalCycles6 жыл бұрын
That is correct, there is no need to use both as a main fuse. But in many cases there is a need for a secondary fuse for very low amp devices like motogadget gauges or sensitive accessories. Also there are other bikes that don't use this type of solenoid and they still need that main fuse. Bottom line the main fuse holder in the kit doesn't add a ton to the cost and its a handy thing to have if / when you need it.

Hey Stefan, just getting my kit together (totally new to wiring) and have appeared to have gotten one of the tiny metal connectors stuck in the waterproof connector, pullout out the stripped cable. Any hand tips for getting this thing out? Looks like its in there pretty good..
@RevivalCycles5 жыл бұрын
The terminals have tangs that lock into place when you seat them in the connector. Look at the face of the connector for the cutouts where the tang can be accessed. Depending on the connector there are different tools designed to release them, in a pinch you can often get away with using a paperclip or flathead mini drivers to depress the tang and release the terminal. -Berry

Question! why have a starter solenoid when you have the munit? doesnt the munit have an integrated digital solenoid? Shouldnt you just put a fuse on the connection?
@RevivalCycles4 жыл бұрын
Good question. 1. There is often confusion around the differences between a starter Relay and Starter Solenoid. A Starter Relay manages current at the start button. A Starter Solenoid manages the high current required by the starter motor. There are often translation errors on wire diagrams. The m.Unit has a internal solid state relay but this is the equivalent of a starter switch relay not a high amperage starter solenoid. The starter motor draws huge amounts of current and if you wire this directly to the start outputs your m.Unit the Outputs will fuse open and dump so much power through them that the m.Unit will melt into slag. Unfortunately, I can't post a photo to this reply. 2. The m.Unit already has internal fuse protection. Adding a second fuse won't add any additional security.
@frederikvolkers83194 жыл бұрын
Revival Cycles thanks for the detailed reply! Just figured that the starter motor on my r80/7 have a built in starter solenoid :)

Would this be a replacement for a stator and regulator?
@RevivalCycles3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. A starter solenoid is a high current relay used to open and close the circuit between the starter motor and battery.

wish I watched this video before I started putting things together. can I order just a connector the terminals. I got everything crimped together and it works, but I messed up the waterproof feature
@RevivalCycles6 жыл бұрын
Yes we can do that. It is easiest to email websales@revivalcycles.com and explain what you need. If you have another order in process we could throw the connector in with it, but if you just need the connector we'll need you to cover shipping costs.

A little disappointed I bought the last one you did the hard-sell on - it's still in the box waiting for the wiring stage. That's technology I suppose. The iPhone 20 comes out 3 months after the 19 was the new best thing.
@paulschellenberg56736 жыл бұрын
I'm in same situation. I don't think there's huge advantages with this kit though. Granted it is waterproof and the connector connects easier, and comes with a few extra fuses. No big deal.

@RevivalCycles4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, this is dependent on the model which is why we include a variety of sizes. To determine the correct fuse size refer back to your OEM fuse box, manual or diagram and use the same as the original main fuse.

What's with the phone line being picked up but nobody say anything, I press the number for sales or retail and a moment later its like someone picks up the phone waits then hangs up. Technical help that's just another bunch of crap, you speak highly of your product well back it up when a customer calls for help especially because it sounded like it wasn't going to be a problem when it came to getting some advice. People might not agree with me fine my bike was built by someone else and he no longer does business also the shops that do exist here are understaff. I received a message from technician but I already have what he sent me in my email, you see it work on it everyday so its like second nature for you but for a beginner like myself who has a hard time reading and retaining information its going to take a while but if I do get it right at least I can say I did it without RevivalCycles 😣😣
