@@jarrodgeary3714turn on the remote without the cable being connected, reset the remote with a tooth pick or with the tip of an ink pen. When the lights turn off connect the cable and turn on the PS when it Boots up press the PS button on the remote. That should do it.

I was organizing and cleaning my bedroom the other day, and noticed my PS3 controller had 2 lights that stayed on solid and it wouldn't connect to the console, so I unplugged it from the charge cord, and left it unplugged for 36 hours thinking it would eventually drain itself. Then I saw this video and hit the reset button as you showed, and the 2 solid red lights started flashing then turned into 4 lights flashing for 20 seconds, then it went back to normal operation. well with mine i ended up finding out it was the prongs inside the usb on the controller. i let a friend borrow them the night before and when i finally looked at it my usb port was all bent up and fucked inside so i just had to get a new one i dont think theres an easy or cheap way of fixing it you might as well just by a new controller. That was my problem anyways i dont know about you guys. try looking at it and if youre unsure compare it to another ps3 controller

I had it plugged in with the USB, and just hit the reset in the back which I didn't even know about and it immediately assigned it to slot 3.

You don't need to do this sometimes. Its a bluetooth problem,it's the controller trying to communicate with the console. if the battery is ok all you do is charge the controller by ps3 to full then turn the console off with controller or the power button,then reboot the console with the charging lead in using the controller or the power button on the console,then when the single light starts flashing as if its charging again pull the lead out quickly whilst its doing this and everything will work perfectly again. I did all this when my console started to turn itself off after it fully charged and getting the 4 flashing lights and in doing all the above cures all these problems and gets everything back to normal again.

*IT WORKED!* I ended up with a bit of a dilemma. I've started playing the Dead Space series for the first time on my PS3. I finished the first two, and booted up Dead Space Extraction before finally settling things with 3. Unfortunately, this entire time, I've been playing with a 3rd-party controller with no SIXAXIS functionality, leaving me softlocked in the tutorial, as there's a point that requires you to use it before it lets you move forward. And unfortunately, my original PS3 controller is busted in such a way that if it's activated, it will send random multidirectional inputs at warp speed. So, I had to buy a whole extra controller... and ran into this!

Sadly, it doesn't work for me. I can only use it wired, so the cable is not the problem. It's odd because even if I don't use the PS3 since march of this year, 2 weeks ago I turn it on and it was fine. Edit: after a little research I came to the conclusion that the problem is in the motherboard (wifi/Bluetooth module) because wifi doesn't work either. So if any of you guys still have this problem, it might be that.
