In this video we start the rebuilding process for Tristan's 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe! The original Gen 4 5.3 LS engine had a lifter failure due to displacement on demand. We have a new gen 3 LS engine we are building to swap in and get it back up and running!

I just picked up a 01 Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3 It's at 220K. I would love to find a cheap or free 5.3 or 6.0 so I can learn to rebuild a engine. Never done a complete rebuild. But I can't have my truck down long enough to do it, so have to build a engine on the side. I been doing a lot of research the last few days so I love the coincidence of you releasing this video now. From my research that CAM you got is one of the best you can get for the 5.3. Wish I had the money to just buy a complete short block already built though.

Main bolts are one time use only

Replacing the main bolts is good insurance. Reading online it seems the most important ones to replace are the head bolts (which we did).

Mains are reusable they don’t stretch like rod and head bolts

Just a heads up that's a chain guide not a tensioner, build looks good. I'm putting together an L33 5.3 for my 99 Z28 Camaro

Put the 3800 in a 2000's Pontiac GTO. I've seen plenty of people who have pulled ls1 engines out of them and selling them without the engine. Plus in Australia they came with the 3800

I stamped and punched all my own rods and main caps and stuff.

That looked like a 24x reluctor wheel. Your gonna need a 58x reluctor wheel to work with that Tahoe. Can’t convert a 24 to 58

@@JuryRigGarage best to catch it now than wait until you have it back in. Also your gonna need to relocate the knock sensors to the side of the block.
