That knife you cleaned up needs the area inside the middle groove cleaned where the blade hooks on inside the groove, then the knife will close all the way. If you noticed the ''Tip"will stick out and maybe cut you if there is lint or dirt inside. When properly cleaned the blade will snap shut. I have over a 5 gallon bucket full of older Old Timers, Buck, Schrade, Case and others, hunting knives also. Been at this crazy buying for 54 years , and yes i like that feeling of the knife in the pocket ! I feel naked without one in my pocket.I enjoy the knives that have been sharpened and show blade wear the most. I'm 71 years old now and have started putting them in picture boxes on the wall. Happy blade hunting.

If you take a large screw driver or some sort of wedge at the end of the bolster you can gently pry the bolster a part at that knife will have a fantastic snap.

The slimline trapper is my favorite Case XX knife. Great job on this one, I've just subscribed. :) I like to restore old pocket knives, but I don't have the nice gear that you have for buffing and sharpening... but I'll get it some day, no doubt. I have a Camillus stockman that the main blade will barely snap some of the time, then it'll stop again. The spring does rise above the liner seemingly far enough to allow the blade to snap, and like I said, it'll snap sometimes (a little, not strong) and not snap at all at other times. I think the problem is dirt and/or some corrosion on the sides of the blade, sandwiched around the pivot hole. Working the blade back and forth moves that dirt around (on this Camillus I'm currently fooling with), but it doesn't come out. I've considered submerging the knife in some kerosene or maybe Marvel Mystery Oil and opening and closing the blade several times, which might (might?) clean up the gunk on the sides of the blade's pivot point, and the brass liners also. If I ever try this, I'll let you know. :)

Great videos! I remember my dad having 2 of those knives in the early seventies. I notice you, like a lot of guys, pronounce Victorinox as Victori-a-nox but there is no “a” in the word.😊

I have a similar age Case Peanut with Delrin scales. I have cleaned the scales up before (they had a similar "white -ish" look as yours did). They get back to the brown colour with a bit of work but if I put it back in storage the "white" stuff comes back after a few months. I wonder if it is just the old plastic (Delrin) oxidizing or something?
