Reviving an E36 328i that was Abandoned at a Shop for Over Half a Decade!

I managed to get a lead on a 5 speed 328i BMW E36 sitting at a local shop, and sitting for quite a long time it seemed based off the flat tires and the coating of grime atop the paint. A talk with the mechanic shop owner informed me that this car came in for $2,100 of work 5+ years ago and once the owner refused to pay the bill, the car was abandoned. And there she sat up until I got my hands on it! So let's see if we can revive this thing and get it running for the first time in many years!

You dont have to pull the grill and bust clips to pop the hood. You can lay on the ground. Reach up under the bumper, behind the front driver headlight, grab the whole cable and housing for the hood pull. Yank down hard, hood pops . (Pullin down on black cable housing )

Second jump pins you tried is power like you said. Hot tip, Pulling that pump relay and cranking will let you start a flooded car too. ( in cold weather or a.i.c. issues when you smell gas after cranking and it wont start )

Manual 328 black on black is dope spec with the sport heated seats… too bad it’s not in a dry state. Tune that ecu and throw an m50 manifold on it and save the drivetrain for a clean 318 or a 325 with a blown HG

Quick question I’ve had I’ve been researching manual transmission’s for my non vanos e34 and I’ve not had much luck finding anything in forums about an e36 transmission being used on an e34 i ask because I’m stuck with the crappy gm auto and it bugs be having to cycle the key just to get the car out of limp mode and other problems also thanks for answering my previous comments I do appreciate the help

I run an e36 zf in my e34. Identical trans as e34 zf just has a slightly different shift selector

Cycling key to get the trans out of limp... your battery positive post is probablly dirty. Any manual trans fits e34. E34 /e36 use the same 6cyl drive train. (Non vanos motor is the same as vanos)

Lots of factors that determine price. If bodys are clean and rust free and they just need minor mechanical work id say 540 autos like 5kish, 540/5 7k-9k

Typical e36 stuff, rust, subframe, cooling system!

Don't forget about vert specific things, verify it latches and unlatches well, if the seals look like they'd seal, obviously check for holes, crack and gaps in the tops and in the rear window, check for smooth opening and closing of the top, etc etc Honestly if you can find a manual top, as much as it can seem like a hassle it's worth it for the peace of mind.

Zf is overrated. Well not over rated just the getrag is under rated. It's gonna be pretty tough for me to ever switch from the getrag I used for my swap on my 328. If u keep it NA there isn't anything the getrag hasn't been able to handle, plus when u add in the "zf tax" and the EASE at finding a getrag over a zf...not only that the chances of u finding a zf that DOESN'T need the detents done are almost zero, and if u do it urself and mess up ur paying another zf tax. I bought and sold 2 zf's I intened to swap in eventually, but after I picked up 4 getrags for the price of 1 zf I figured I could swap them out easier than changing my entire set up AGAIN and now have trans for days.
