Reviving Retro RV Vibes: Punchlist Palooza - Transforming Our 1970s RV - DIY Decor & More!

Harvey needs to get tucked in for winter soon so we're running through a final punch list of this vintage RV renovation that will add some additional safety, storage, and retro style to this classic motor home. We pick up where we left off with the spare tire holder and add a new backup camera. We hit a few snags along the way but manage to restore some of the vintage charm with some retro decor and a sweet new storage/headboard for this tiny home. The icing on the cake is the new DIY custom blinds on a budget that we create for Harvey. They look amazing and will give us some much needed privacy while camping.

For your curtains at the front and back, use magnets on the wall and sewn into the curtain to keep them attached to the wall of the camper. I have done this in our camper several times, works great! Great job on it!

**wanted to share a tip I myself just learned the other day. When using sprays try replacing the spray tip with a WD40 tip. Switching tips help to have more control of the spray also not wasting as much. Be sure to test spray a few making sure the WD40 spray has cleared. I hope this helps you in your retro remodels. Happy Birthday Tyler!!Everything is looking great!! Love your spare tire bracket and your camera mount. Love your new blinds , your curtain and that waffle cloth you glued up looks awesome. GREAT job. The storage build is awesome!! Just a suggestion for the angled from window, I bought some window film and put on mine and it worked great. Can't see through mine, it's white to let light in though. But you could use the darker color to block out sun and you can see out but not in if you get the mirrored kind. Another idea is you can get long springs and sew seam spaces each side of your blind and put one top and bottom. Run the spring or cable also would work, through the seams and attach ends to each side of window. If you make the blind longer than the width of window so it sort of gathers across the window for textured look. So happy to see another new video. Wonderful your getting a barn built to get you guys inside out of the weather!! So happy for you.

You installed the monitor (not camera) upside down. Try long springs for the curtains on the curved walls. Love what you're doing, congratulations on the 10K, and looking forward to the new videos..

So, yes, we knew that we put the monitor in upsidedown but the bolts on the sides didn't fit correctly in the mount if flipped... like it was only designed to be dash mounted or something. You can make blinds with magnets on them told hold them in place in those front and back windows people do that in the van builds all the time that way you can remove them and put back up quick and easy and still have the same blinds as the rest of them hope this helps congratulations on the 10000🎉

Just to let you know, the old campers usually have aluminum window trim/frames and magnets have to be fixed to the camper and the curtain for that to work. In a van conversion, they are working with the van body steel.

If the retan isn't straight enough, you could put a small molding around the edge to hide it. That reverse lens should out last the rv if you don't jam a board under it again. Nice job on the whole unit. Makes me want to find an old rv to fix up now. Happy new year.

Good job looks great! For the front curtain-screw a rope (string) at the top and bottom of the window. Then sew a piece of material with a channel top and bottom. Pull the rope thru the curtain channel top and bottom. Same as your divider curtain, except you have a channel at the bottom as well. The curtain will stay against the window and not hang straight down. You'll be able to push the curtain open as it slides along the rope.

I think the drop cloth would make a great curtain divider. I think the blanket divider is tooo busy. However, EVERYTHING looks great. So much work! U guys work so well together. Depending where you are going to be, you might want make a security strap on the tire and camera so someone does not help themselves to it. A shame but some people have no shame. The front window could have velcro tabs on it to hold it against the wall.

The curtain idea is perfect. I might have to do that in my RV. Also, backsplash, what about a peel and stick wall covering that looks like stainless steel? I bought some on Amazon and covered my refrigerator doors with it. Really enjoy your videos!

A simple fix for the blinds on the front and back windows. Get magnetic washers with a tapered center for a countersunk screw. Screw a steel washer to each end of the bottom dowel. When you drop the blind, stick the dowel to the magnets screwed to the wall. The magnets should be strong enough to hold onto the edges of the washers. You could put a second pair of magnets at a level in between to secure the blind partially open. Amazon has a 50 pack of these magnets for $6.99. That would be more than enough to magnetize all the blinds. Could leave the bunk blinds down when driving and they wouldn't flap around. Leave the windows open when there's a breeze and the magnets would hold the blinds down to keep a full blast of wind out while allowing some ventilation through the screens. There are also non-magnetic steel washers with the same shape, made to screw onto things to stick to magnets. They'd work on the ends of the dowels and being thicker than regular flat washers would stick better on edge to the magnets.

Thanks for the comment. We're considering the window film. As for the camera,you are right. The issue lies with the monitor mount. It's made for a dash mount. I'll have to modify it slightly to flip the monitor over now that's it's an overhead mount. Flipping the camera was just a quick fix 😉

The wallpaper back splash may prove to be too busy for the space and it does not match or go with what you have so far. Maybe use a peel and stick faux subway tile for your back splash area. Your camper looks really nice. Thanks for sharing.
