I’ve got the 20years edition golf r. Came stock with 330bhp. It’s no where near as engaging as my mk2 focus rs, which I fortunately still own. It could also do with another 100-150nm torque. As you say, you have to push it move along. More torque would enable faster driving point to point without having to rag it. Something the focus does brilliantly with 630nm.
