Revoice Star Wesley Hill Feels No Need To Oppose "A Lot Of What I Find In Queer Theory"

Wesley Hill, a celibate gay Episcopal priest and associate professor at Western Theological Seminary, endorses an undefined, but apparently majority, amount of the ideology in Queer Theory during a March 14, 2022 talk at George Fox University titled "The Trouble with Normal and the Order of Love."

Q: So my question is: Why should we focus on the motives behind people's arguments? Shouldn't we just solely focus on discerning which arguments are truthful?
A: Thank you. Yes. I think I'm in agreement with that. I apologize if I fail to live up to my own ideal on that. I mean, I think that a lot of what I find in queer theory is not something i feel the need to oppose as a Christian. And I certainly wouldn't want to say that, you know, if I feel able to discern the motives of a Michel Foucault or a Judith Butler, that that somehow obviates my need to engage their arguments. So yeah. I think i'm in agreement, and I apologize if anything I said was sort of out of step with that.

I disagree. I haven't heard the talk, so I don't know what he's expressing here. But God knows what is intended to be communicated by the word "Gay Christian". It simply indicates in this context that this is a Christian with homosexual attractions. For practical purposes, he needs to be ministered to and loved in a very different way than heterosexual Chtistians. We need to be more sensitive to the enormous burden these Christians must carry in such an individualistic, socially isolated Western culture

Oddly enough, I know Wesley - he and I were on the same masters course at university. We had many classes together. He was a very pleasant and decent man, whose company I enjoyed - but I simply cannot reconcile myself to this. At all. In particular, I dislike the way in which modern theology wears the classical Christian tradition like a skin suit. If we had Augustine in the room with us as that hallowed ‘conversation partner’ - do we SERIOUSLY think he would tolerate anything resembling queer theory? Surely the doctrine of the communion of saints means that we remain charitable not just to the ‘ideas’ of Augustine (as if they’re toys in a toy box), but also to the *man*? There is no way AT ALL that this is a charitable, reasonable appeal to Augustine’s actual intentions.

A pastor I knew was taught by Wesley in seminary, and I own his book on the Lord's Prayer. I thought he was one of the more "moderate" Side B/Revoice advocates, but this whole lecture was shockingly radical.

Someone in Q+A should have asked Wesley about why the founders of queer theory never denounced pedophilia and often spoke about it in a positive manner. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnvWl2iHjpZlqMk even their own professors pointed this out but with sheer animosity from their own "comrades"/students when speaking objective truth, but will not realize that this whole "lgbtq" thing is part of leviathan and it must be destroyed by the Root.

Which of St. Augustine's works is he referencing? I guess I'm trying to make sure I understand exactly where he's coming from before writing him off. Hopefully not being too opoptimistic
