REVOK is a cog in the wheel which was the 90's era. You had to be there.... The entire city was alive and each crew pushed each other. There was no room for toys. REVOK is a product of the influence around him, which pushed him and all of us to be better. LA heads loved Graf because of Ayer, Pale, Panic, Oiler, Saber, SK8, WCA, K2S, AM7, AWR, CBS, OTR, LTSxKOG, UTI, SH, STP, Mear, Kofie, etc.... The era right before tag banging took over, was one of the best times for LA graf.. The city was alive! Motor Yard, Sanborn yard, Belmont Yard, Venice plaza, Panic Zone if you were down to fight with Hazard, etc.. LA influenced us to start, not just one person.
@deeveeuhs7 ай бұрын
@@creativeclectic facts!! My mind is drawing a blank though, where was the Sanborn yard at exactly? I would always go to Barnsdall, Levitz and the river in Atwater(under the Hyperion bridge) but I can’t recall the Sanborn yard.

So much respect from Detroit, MI. Such an incredible artist that pushed everyone else to start going BIG in the 2010’s when he came through. He’s not even known for his work here but him and the other MSK guys really destroyed this city and did their thing. Dope interview.

And for the record, Skrew was really the first one to come through a good decade prior and he did his thing. From what I can remember, that was kind of the beginning of a whole roster of real solid out of towners that influenced the scene here. There were, and still are a whole gang of dope writers in Detroit with their own style who really go hard, but it’s crazy to see how much the influence of crews like AWR and MSK had on this city. The same can definitely be said for Nekst (RIP) and Vizie, Nietz, 2Buck, etc. It was just such a perfect time where the police had much more pressing issues, artists were traveling to the city, and the local scene here was evolving. I can’t stress how dope it was to witness during that era.

the Michael Jordan of graffiti! Tip of the spear! And to think that msk-awr has at least 15/20 of the best writers in the top 50 writers of all time I don’t give a fuck what anyone has to say this whole crew will go down in the graffiti history books and a select few are pushing fine art at a all time high level! Not only for themselves but for graffiti as a whole to be considered a real art medium and to be taken seriously in the fine art world pretty amazing to think a bunch of kids at one time pushed an art form so far that it pushed them into the fine art world.. gnarly and inspiring!! Can’t wait to see what revok and company do in the future keep this podcast coming 2tone! Please bring in zes!

"My grandmother's from Nashville", first time I ever peeped this guy's name, long before I ever heard of him, before I was even connected to the graff scene like that, just being a toy who fucked around here and there at that point, was I was in a car driving from Philly to Texas back in the 90's and peeped a freight bridge overpass he had in Nashville. It stood out to me for some reason. Then I seen it again years later making that same route, I might have even been looking for it because I remembered it from last time. That shit ran for YEARS.
Hael's first real trip outside of the U.S. that required a passport, ending up a the Spanish Fire Island dance party.

Bro lived my life in similar situations. Started skating in 82, Fontana CA. My first album I bought was Neuclues Jam on it. White boy getting jumped cos I would bring my boombox and play Hip-Hop while skating. Dudes would hate on me cos I was white listening to Hip-Hop. Everything stopped when I was in the “bad kids,” classroom half the day in Junior High. In Fontana back then gangs were not super sold there yet. My buddy was a full on Crip from Compton, cos his mom thought if he stayed there he would end up in jail or dead. He actually broke into the set of Colors, and stole a Hollywood owned VHS with the time running like a closed caption. He had a copy of the movie a few months before it hit theaters. My teacher let us watch it in class, and he really liked Marcus. Marcus became my amazing friend, and everyone knew he was a real Crip. Nobody tried to “find out,” about him. We would steal Thunderbird liquor from the store, he would just listen to my boombox, while I’d skate. Some dude tried fuking with me. Marcus dropped him in front of his friends. I never got jumped again. Well, not until High School. Man, the 80’s were rad. I hope you’re still alive and well Marcus. In 89 my parents moved to the high desert. I hated it. No concrete anywhere! Apple Valley had a few cool skate spots though. God bless you guys, and GODSPEED!
