Күн бұрын

In this episode of #DrinkChamps, hip hop legends #Common and #PeteRock sit down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN to discuss their new collaborative album and the importance of celebrating the culture. They dive into their creative process, bringing the energy of the 90s into the present day, and share stories about battling in hip hop. Common speaks on Ice Cube dissing him, while also addressing Drake sending subliminal shots his way. Pete Rock opens up about his falloff with CL Smooth. The duo also weighs in on the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake and Nas vs. Biggie debates, while reflecting on Ye's comparisons between Common and Talib Kweli. From Chicago to New York, Common and Pete Rock keep it real about staying true to the essence of hip hop.

Com s Resurrection, my #1 favorite Hio Hop album EVER. Best combo of beats, rhymes and scratches on one album EVER. That was peak Common. And Mr Sinista? Some of the most rhythmic, cleanest scratches ever on a Hip Hop album.

I never got off into N.O.R.E. back in the day…only his collaborations with Tribe…so I knew he was a LEGEND. Just didn’t get around to doing my homework. I remember when Comm used to run into the record store I worked at in Hyde Park, Chicago to check on his J Card to see how many units “Can I Borrow A Dollar?” had sold. KRS ONE did an in store that same year and KRS had Midnight Marauders playing in his cd Walkman…but yeah…KRS taught us all about vegetarianism when he said: “Beef…what a relief…when will this poisonous product cease?…” I miss dem days…but I love 💕 what Drink Champs is doin today for the culture. Big up Common & the Soul Brother #1 and Drink Champs for keeping it hip hop.

I really appreciate this episode I love to hear about the history and all the memories made because of the culture. I remember first time I seen Pete Rock in a studio in Jamaica Queens first I was living a different life back then and I was way out a pocket that's why I aint never introduce myself or tell him how I used to record future flavors on Hot 97 with fresh blank cassette on the stereo. That sound like some real old school shit but I am still young enough to look up to all these legends much love and respect.

Legends here. Many Blessings 🙏🏽 and thank you for your continued contribution to hip hop even in the state it’s in now, and for them new gems we about to get blessed with soon. But side bar, that Common- the Bitch in Yoo produced by Pete Rock turned Ice Cube into a family friendly comedy skit movie actor the very next day. 😂 ice Cube even had to give a part in Barbershop where everyone that got on them barber seats already sat down with shape ups and bad acting.
