Im not the best at teaching, but I can try. The best way to learn is simply to play percussion instruments. I'm a percussion player and have been for 6 odd years now, and thats how I learned. Rhythmic Percussion to me is melodies without the pitch, and melodic percussion is just adding pitch back in afterwards. My best advice for you is to try and tongue the rhythm, if its possible for you to tongue it, then its possible for a player to play it

go out of your way and ingest tons of (good quality) percussion writing. EMCProductions has a series called “Fixing bad percussion writing” that’s incredibly helpful. going to musescore and looking at what others are doing has been massively helpful for me, look at what types of techniques they’re incorporating, how they notate it, etc. my drum line writing has improved greatly by teaching myself snare on a practice pad, but my pit writing has also improved greatly without teaching myself any mallets because I look at the types of things i’ve seen and heard, and “air play” all my passages.

also having a percussion friend to ask technique advice to has been massively helpful for me
