I just upgraded to metal because they had a deal of 3 months for 1 euro, and the remainder at the normal price. My reason for Metal is that I have to pay for family travel insurance and also car hire excess so getting it included more or less justifies any money I pay for the service. I also get Revolut Junior for one of my kids and the card was free for that. Purchase protection and other features are nice. Some cashback is nice. Slightly better exchange rates and cash withdrawals are nice. I got the metal card which is pretty weighty really - i'm scared what will happen if I feed it into an ATM but it seems the same physical dimensions as a regular card including thickness. Downsides? The alleged loungekey access feature is a joke - I've not seen it much cheaper than just buying lounge access through other means - not that I'd want to anyway. e.g. I would save a whopping €2 buying a lounge pass in my local airport vs just walking up and paying them. I guess it would be nice to get a free lounge pass if my flights are delayed. Crypto currency is for chumps. Trading stocks is better done through a proper brokerage, not their mickey mouse implementation. So for me it's the insurance bundled up with it. The other "products" on the side are junk really.

Thanks for the insight! I think you absolutely nailed it. 3 months for 1 euro is great along with the remainder of the year you’re looking at a great deal. So far I haven’t had any trouble with using the card in an ATM, although interestingly my latest metal card weighs 2 grams less than the original 1 I had which was 18g. I’m wondering if Revolut are cutting costs? Also totally agree re lounge key, it’s a waste of time and just fluff to bolster the accounts appeal! ^Jonny

I love it. I live that I can easily and instantly add money to my Revolut account with my other bank debit cards. This is a feature that Sofi, Chime, Varo and n26 don't have. Heck check deposits take 3-5 days with Varo and Sofi.

Have Revolut Metal. Great idea but it has let me down so many times when traveling. Have travelled and worked in many countries outside the EU in the past three years since getting it and it is not accepted in most places. ATMs ok, but it is more common than not that restaurant card machines (for example) won’t accept them. Last month I was in Thailand, converting cash to Baht on my card, great I thought, but then I couldn’t spend it anywhere.. !!!

Thanks Ivan for sharing your experience. I've never had problems with my Revolut card while travelling, including in Thailand. It should be accepted anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted. What was the problem? The shops didn't accept card payments at all, or there was a problem with the Revolut card in particular (i.e. it worked with other cards)?

@@Monitodotcom I think its the problem with the terminal for card payments. It probably needs some time to get updated, If the card won't get accepted I just use Apple Pay.

Hey Keqxity, great question and difficult to answer without more details as it depends on the location and use case. For example if you're from the UK and you travel abroad frequently then Starling Bank is great. Their debit card has fee-free international transactions and withdrawals and great exchange rates. For me that's my go to alongside my Revolut metal card for all the metal benefits. ^Jonny

Hi Andreas, I think you misunderstood. You don’t need to actually use the card to utilise the car hire excess insurance. It’s active regardless and you can just contact Allianz Assistance with your policy number when you need to claim. On another note I’ve rented plenty of cars using my debit card, I used a 3rd party aggregator and pay online before travelling. That said, and I think what you’re referring to? It’s usually just the deductible or deposit that requires a credit card, which is processed on collection. Cheers ^Jonny

@@Monitodotcom In fact, the money for the car you can of course pay with the card....that always works. But the deposit, which is usually due when picking up the car, probably less. Because most rental companies refuse when they read the word "debit" on the card. Unfortunately.

I think debit cards are mostly accepted, except for certain locations and car values. Avis, Enterprise, Europcar & Hertz all appear (at least in some locations) to accept a debit card, as long as it's in the main driver's name. Obviously there needs to be sufficient funds in the account to cover the deposit amount though. ^Jonny

No I bought Revolut metal on the 3rd of January 2022 just for the free stock trading.Then in the summer they started charging after ten trades a month.They changed the contract.

Okay cool, I thought it was worth checking but I think it’s clear that a Revolut account would be ideal for you. You could receive your earnings in EUR and spend them freely, also if you’re travelling around Europe and spending currencies that aren’t the euro you’ll also receive great foreign exchange rates.

Hey Haylon,. According to Revolut there isn't generally a limit to a single transaction. Obviously the funds need to be in the account and as long as you haven't set a specific spending limit within the app you should be fine. - Jonny

Hey! If you do let it expire after 1 year then you'll lose access to the additional benefits such as insurance and fee-free trading, and you will be downgraded to Revolut Standard. The Metal card will stop working and they'll post you a replacement plastic card. Hope that helps! ^Jonny

Just make sure you cancel the plan before it expires. You can do this by visting your Revolut Hub, clicking Metal in the top right corner and then the cog. You should then be presented with the option to downgrade. ^Jonny

I looked closely between the two and there doesn't seem to be much difference. Revolut has some loungekey stuff and that's it really. Some little differences about the amount of free cash withdrawals in a month. One thing that N26 has in its favour is that it has always been a proper bank, not a money transfer service that morphed into one. I had trouble funding a stock brokerage account from Revolut because Revolut used an aggregated proxy account for making outgoing payments which the brokerage wouldn't accept since they had no idea who was paying them. They didn't have this issue with N26. On the flipside, trying to open an account with N26 was a massive pain in the arse because their identity scanning service took about 10 goes to recognise my passport which was super annoying.

Hey Hanix, I'm sorry! I for some reason thought we were discussing Revolut business. Okay so you will only incur a fee when making international transfers, as in sending money internationally. With Revolut Metal if you spend money in a foreign currency, for example, Canada then you won't incur any fees AS LONG as it is during the week. If you spend money in a currency you don't have on the weekend then you'll incur a small fee. My recommendation is that you exchange any currency you think you'll need during the week so you can spend it freely whenever you want. Sorry for the confusion, I respond to so many comments that sometimes my wires get crossed! ^Jonny

Revolut is really bad for transaction, they have big problem and bad service when you got a issue. Many people have they transaction block for months with no help. Its a good bank for traveling with small money. After that i dont recommended it. I have been using it for 5 years with metal card. Lots of issue and no service.

That’s what I heard,my friend got locked £10.000 on his account and it took time for customer service. Luckily he got it back but me as a customer I need fast response and solution from customer service in case of big issue,otherwise it’s a big NO. I just created revolut for online safe payment but I would not store large money there at all
