Revolution Now!

Күн бұрын

In this (2 hour+ !) episode of Revolution Now (Episode 54), Peter Joseph examines the complexities of systemic transition and the limitations of reformist approaches to change, including a critical review of Jason Hickel’s work. The episode concludes with a 40-minute conversation with Alfie Kohn on the destructive nature of competition. Key topics include:
-Defining capitalism in a coherent and precise way.
-The strategic foundation of the Integral Parallel Economy project.
-The importance of out-system leverage points in driving meaningful change.
-Value distortions within market economics (exchange vs use)
-Why negative human behaviors are often mislabeled as human nature.
-The common failures of social movements and the dangers of group identity. And more.

I only back teams that have an Eagle as their mascot. If they were a hopscotch-team called "The Eagles", then i would choose that team. Don't care about the players, the game, just the bird. 🦅 With regards to "watching the game", I'll check the highlights if I'm so curious. Otherwise, eh.

Been following you since the 1st Zeitgeist and love your work, its hard to believe its been nearly twenty yrs since the first Zeitgeist was released. I just pray that I see the changes you cover extensively in your work in my lifetime, Our society is truly broken I'm not as smart as you so for the past twenty years I've just been a cog in this system going to work everyday unhappy, unfulfilled, underpaid, basically just surviving, but it brings me hope there are people like you pushing for a better, fairer world for everyone it's just ashame the people you are up against are the very people that run the show from the very top and the last thing they want are the changes you advocate for. Keep up the fight Peter your work is amazing. . Reagrds Mike UK.

I think it's really important for people to be educated on scientific methodologies and fallacies of the "fundamental" topics such as language and human behavior; otherwise, you will start with a shaky foundation and a misunderstanding of the information you will be exposed to when figuring out solutions to society's problems. Delivered using language and outdated human behavior concepts.

I have consumed the content of Peter Joseph for many years now. I feel that my views have evolved greatly thanks to his work. But to be brutally honest none of it has driven me to action. That is the point I believe. The problems are real. The proposed solutions were rational, yet the series of networks that we are entangled in stopped me from acting. Question: What would it take to drive someone like me (Joe Average) to finally take action? It's not the message. It's not the messenger. The problem is me and everyone like me. How do you break the programming and the reliance on the existing system. How do you change me?

Try to "Not Support" the system as much a you can, while living inside this system.. this is the best we can do, until we reach a critical mass for change.,, and the change doesnt ever comes in an instant.. its a proccess of step by step forward... We wont just flip a switch to suddenly live in an RBE world... it will come after a series of other changes, which may take years to accomplish.

If I had to guess, you gaining such a broad overview of the complexity of the problem has made it seem unapproachable. I would suggest you figure out what is one first step that you are capable of taking that gets you in the right direction. If you think too much you’ll get in your own way. If you try to just be present and pay attention to what is actually happening in the moment you’ll surprised how much work gets done. To quote the Dao De Jing “do nothing, and nothing is left undone”.

We absolutely must create a society that meets EVERYONE'S fundamental physical and psychological needs UNCONDITIONALLY in a decentralized and voluntary way with altruistic networks. The most effective way to foster altruism is by raisin awareness about the fact that all humans become either a benefit or a burden to society depending on whether or not all their needs are met since conception. By definition, that which causes pathologies when lacking, is a need. If anyone wants to know how to kickstart radical change in your town, city, just ask me. We are doing it effectively and can give you a guide to do so

Let's be realistic. The established rich elites of our world will never allow this. Not until the entire society is destroyed through war or ecological calamity will something resembling what you're mentioning even stand a chance of being proposed by the remnant survivors of the world and even then it's just as likely that the survivors will reconstruct something like ancient Rome with all the slavery and violence you've seen in history books.

Peter, I wonder if you can address some of these issues of competition even further in future episodes, because after that conversation with Alfie Kohn, I couldn't help but having some remaining unanswered questions. I get that economic competition embedded into capitalist culture is toxic and unhealthy. The scarcity required by capitalism to 'survive' which means billions of people go without basic needs is horrific and we need to build new social structures to counter that, through cooperation and collaboration. I get that for creative tasks, collaboration and cooperation are much more productive. Anytime I've attempted to write or draw or fix something broken in the house, I've been much more intrinsically motivated and done much better work than if I was doing it for a gold star or money. But what about mutually agreed upon competition? Two people playing a game or sport, let's say, and they know the game rules, they agree upon it and they might individually work on building up skills before and after they play each other and through that they are exercising and leading a more healthy, physically active life. Does the competitive nature of a mutual one vs one basketball game, for example, become more toxic than the physical benefits of exercising a few times a week by going to the gym to work on skills or playing outside with no gold stars or money possibly involved in that? Is there significant research on that? If so, how does that explain proactive coaching and positive team work effects that create cohesion within a sports team and then respect to the other team at the end of a game to line up and say "good game" to each side? Physical exercise daily is one of the most important factors for overall health and well-being. What are the realistic non-competitive options for kids and adults to pursue? Long walks? Going for runs, but never racing another person? Weight training, but not towards being better in a sport of choice? Even the classic kids game of tag is competitive, but does it not develop pretty naturally from the freedom of kids choosing a fun activity to do outside? If research shows all competition is toxic, does it show what the alternatives are that would still encourage humans to be physically active for 30-60 minutes per day now that we are not roaming nomadic tribes that hunt and gather and get much of our exercise from the work that needs to be done to survive?
@bagiee1

33:40 Yeah, this is an interesting and topical one, because it's not only market theorists who peddle mythical culture as immutable reality (although for sure even seemingly unconnected grifts are ultimately chasing money), but there are all sorts of actors now in the "right wing pipeline" desperate to push "traditional" values, and the idea that these great natural cultures (that never actually existed) are now in decay (an example being how it would apparently be all rosy to be a 1930s coal miner, while completely ignoring the reality of what it was actually like to be a 1930s coal miner, using British Council culture pieces on video, peddled as if it were a real example of the typical miner's home at night with the wife putting a huge chunk of meat on the table and the five kids on top of the world) and so we must fight to preserve this shared heritage according to these commentators (I use the singular as it's basically one particular conception of "heritage" at play, at least as far as I've noticed). I have basically no doubt personally that feb 2022 is, at some level, a manifestation of selling the idea to people that it all matters - your country needs you. 50:33 Amen As a lover of sport, watching and participating, I always thought that it would satisfy any desire to compete within a collaborative system. I can't go as far as to agree the concept in general is a problem but maybe I just really enjoy it. I doubt many would agree anyway as some sports can be very fundamental aspects of people's lives. But I wonder why no mention of nationalism. I see it as the paradigm of interest if u want to move in that direction beyond competition, and capitalism generally.

The only way I can see to get out of this system that absolutely demands growth (while still in the system) would be to make it financially worthwhile for people to SHARE the jobs that are somehow decided are NEEDED to be done and working much less....It would guarantee that everything we need to have done is being done but it would not require any more growth than whatever is required to meet the 'needs' of a growing population . ..Of course money would soon become pointless.

I remember this dynamic taking place in the "debate" between Peter and Stefan Molyneau. Stefan's insistence on attempting to win the debate completely overshadowed the entire truth of what Peter was trying to communicate. It really turned me off of Molyneau after that.

01:28:00 I would disagree a sucessful "exit and build strategy" that insures EROI and allows for "meritbadges" to attach to "money" and value attach to reality. Currency becomes true energy flows and pools.

I was wondering of competition and sharing. Certainly we are a sharing species. So, I have put some thought into why self interested greed came about. The Author made a good point, it is not only a shortage of food. I have to think it is population density stress, combined with anonymous strangers that forged hierarchies to bring order to what might be chaos. Then relations between groups competing for resources that is times of low access creates competition. And even violence. Those battling societies over time, become patriarchal, and competition within the culture becomes higher. No only scacity, but population density and outside pressures to get the same resources, for different groups. What do ya'll think? Hoe did the most wealthy nation in the world come to a place, where the good guy calls genocide, self defense. In other words where does high competition come from?

Peter, is Zeitgeist Requiem ever going to be released to the public ? It's been in the dark for 1 year now. At least make an official announcement and not hide information in the middle of your podcasts. I don't have the patience to listen to them entirely. Thank you

Check Out Zeitgeist The Movie Companion Guide PDF,Then Check Out Manly P. Hall's The Secret Teachings of All Ages (1928) is a comprehensive exploration of esoteric wisdom, mysticism, and the hidden spiritual traditions across human history. Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time* (1966) by historian Carroll Quigley is a comprehensive account of world history, especially focusing on the rise and development of Western civilization from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The book is particularly known for its in-depth analysis of global finance, political power structures, and international relations. The Money Masters by Bill Still is not actually a book, but rather a 1996 documentary film that explores the history of banking, money creation, and the influence of central banks on economies. The film argues that private control of money issuance, particularly through central banking systems like the Federal Reserve, leads to economic instability, debt, and wealth inequality. Pass It On

I hate to say this but you need to debate a communist like me before I can take you seriously ever again. You may have opened by eyes back during Zeitgeist 1, and I have continued to see everything you have produced ever since, but you have never debated a communist before. Only the capitalists. Why? You have debated the most crazy of ancaps but never a single tankie. You have to acquire a following and you have one just sitting there waiting to follow up on Viktor Glushkov. [edit] Peter you need to watch Capital as Extinction Part One: For Land. Just to start. I can't describe how much knowledge you are throwing away casually but at least watch that video, it's the best of the decade since your Zeitgeist film.

People even throw away Dugin based on propaganda without actually reading his work. He is brilliant, many are brilliant, but they are taken out of context for political reasons so that the CIA can justify car bombing them through intermediaries. Don't you think it's a good idea to find out why people the CIA decides to assassinate are assassinated? You used to care, back in Zeitgest 2 when you had Perkins on. Why not talk to a real tankie? What's the problem? If you interview a tankie, it honestly should be me. I'm literally the only one qualified who has studied all your work and the work of other tankies, at least as far as I know. But my email inbox is empty from you, as are youtube messages. I'm literally getting a degree in engineering physics because of you and Jacques and it's like I hardly exist except as a random stranger on the internet.

You are the one with the power, and you are the one that needs to understand and create a revolution. You created the very first spark basically at the birth of the internet; this means you have responsibilities that i would also falter at. I don't blame you man, I appreciate you, even though I've thrown a bit of shade at you Peter. I get your distrust of the bolsheviks, of the USSR, etc. Mistakes were made. New governments are always cruel, as explained in exquisite detail by professor Andrey Fursov. Without analysis though, those mistakes will come back, but the successes could be lost. You might not know it Peter but the north pole ice cap is very likely to be gone by 2050. I don't mean a little melty, I mean gone. It may not hit sea level rise, but people don't know what the thermohaline cycle is, and this is what will doom us as it doomed life in the Permian. Please look it up. Look up what happens when clouds of hydrogen sulfide hit beaches, and imagine entire dead anoxic oceans belching the stuff 24/7. Our next century is set to be something one might find after 12 shots of nightmare fuel. I can go on and on about more and more bad stuff. Trust me, you don't want me to. Hit me up some time please Peter because I don't want to see our future go the way it is going.
