Hong Chen, PhD, and her team at Washington University in St. Louis have made a groundbreaking discovery with the use of focused ultrasound-mediated liquid biopsy, or sonobiopsy, to improve the detection and measurement of biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease. By opening the blood brain barrier, they were able to capture biomarkers that may lead to better identification of the molecular drivers and pathways of neurodegenerative disorders. Their study, which is the first to use sonobiopsy for noninvasive and targeted diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative disorders, has exciting implications for the future of Alzheimer's diagnosis and treatment.
