Hey Fred, Bach and Sunday morning coffee, lovely combination. So much you're showing in my area here of course. Eleni Karaindrou, wonderful...She's an artist I've been meaning to do a video feature on for years now. Am curious to explore more of those obscures now...also Tim Hecker, sounds amazing! -Carm

Hi, Fred - listened to everything and enjoyed all the recommendations and selections. As a result of deviating from the search paths I found The Expanders. One could criticize for lack of authenticity or appropriation (they're a dub band from L.A.) but I did enjoy the tight, swinging grooves on "Hustling Culture". I also discovered Pharaohe Monch and the album "Desire", which is unusually compelling rap/hop for me. You probably know both these artists. BTW, don't feel any responsibility for this but I canceled my subscription to LiveOne. "Fred Discovery" is better.

I feel very humbled that I led you to cancel your subscription, but I hope that you can continue discovering interesting nuggets on this small channel. The Expanders I have not heard, but I will take a listen. I know a little bit of Pharaoh Monche, not a lot admittedly. But thanks for the tip!

Count me in if you do that stream, perhaps I can make it. let me know if ya can. What a sweet gift to get that Woody Shaw. It is worth the hype to me. As is the Daniel Hecht, though not really hyped though I am biased with that music. I'll get anything with barely a whiff of fingerpick. The CK Mann I will have to stream, looks incredible and didn't know about the Finis Africae comp. hot tips there for me. Cheers Fred!

Hello Fred, good to see you. I like the lighting effect the Autumn sun is producing, it makes you look almost ethereal. I always feel a bit guilty when I listen to Bach's Goldberg Variations and other keyboard works played on piano. While I generally prefer piano to the harpsichord or clavichord, the pretentious little voice in the back of my head whispers, "Call yourself a Classical music aficionado! Piano wanker!" Cheers - Hedley

Nice selection as always...I love the Music for Airports of Brian Eno, I have some French radio broadcastings of The Cocteau Twins on tapes from the 90s and it's so great ! I don't know much about Tim Hecker, which one should I listen to ? And I think the 2nd The Smile is far better than the 1st one 😃😉

Fred, your last video inspired me to pull out my copy of '' Cluster II'' from 1972. Wow, I really enjoyed it, thanks for the reminder. The ''Grosses Wasser'' album is another old favorite. It was produced by Peter Baumann from Tangerine Dream, who had opened his own studio. Peter's presence might account for the slight change in their approach. Eno's '' Music For Airports'' contains a Zen peacefulness mixed with an ever so slight sense of danger, plus Robert Wyatt plays piano! I gotta check out Placebo, never heard their music. Gary Peacock spent some years in Japan, anything with him on it has my stamp of approval. Fela Kuti makes me dance on my ceiling even when he's criticizing Corruption and false Idols!

Hey Fred, So good to see you!...somehow I've missed that you've been posting again - grateful for some videos to go back and learn from! Sunday morning classical - can't beat it...I'm all over that C.K. Mann. I agree with you on Sorrow Tears & Blood - I think it's the best of example of what Fela does; always the one I play for people who have never experienced him. I"'ll check out Panghalina....Daniel Hecht a definite inspection now required! Thanks for this...lots to explore!

Hey Fred, though I've only been following you for a year or so, each time I'm notified about a new video from you it's like getting a surprise call or visit from a dear old friend. Connections and friends over these digital channels can be strangely real! Anyway it was a lovely selection but I was so surprised to hear you talk about Panghalin's Lava, I've really been enjoying that album this year. Room 40 are always a good bet, but this one really surprised me, the vocals add so much to the ambient atmosphere. The record reminds me of the saying that the cello is the instrument that most mirrors the human voice, but the double bass just lets you excavate the subterranean depths of sound and feeling. Helen Svoboda is very cool, wish I could see them live. There seems to be a thread of fantastic double bass players atm which makes me happy, its such a wonderful instrument. I picked up a copy of Music for two Bases after your recommendation, it truly is an incredible record. Other recent picks, Takashi Masubuchi & Ayami Suzuki's album Suikyō is sublime, it almost has that US primitive finger-picking style mixed with Asian instrumentation, electronics and even hurdy-gurdy that I think you might like. And Hamid Drake and Drazek Fuscaldo's album June 22 was a surprising revelation, Drake is awesome. But weirdly after watching you video I put on old favourites February Montaine's Mount Nod, and then Angolan genius Artur Nunes' Tia. Something joined the dots. I'm sure you know them, but if not I think you'd dig! Have a great week mate, till next time ✌️

Hey Christophe, appreciate you stopping by. I see your interactions on Stunty’s stream and always enjoy your thoughts on music. Thanks for recommending some very interesting artists which I’ll be able to check on my morning and evening commutes (i spend a couple of hours on the train, so there’s plenty of time to hear new things on bandcamp). Panghalina were exceptional but I must say I’m even more surprised by you being into them as they are local artists to our scene in Melbourne, if that makes sense.

I agree with you about Ambient 1 and I held the thought “What’s the fuzz with this?” I rather listen to Arvo Parts ‘Misere’, Biosphere, Tim Hecker, Eno’s ‘Apollo’ or an early John Hassel for ambience for instance. But to me the Boards of Canada don’t hit home either, sorry….The Smile is not putting a smile on my face either. How about a Nomeansno for something completely different and hardly reviewed across the VC but phenomenal 😉

That's as good a way to kick off a morning musically speaking as any. I need some Palestine in the collection..strumming music especially has been on my wl a long time..also need the reich. Just stuff you can get lost in..music were the journey is more important than the destination in some ways..😀. Got to agree with you on zuckerzeit my favorite as well.. I remember first hearing cluster in 80's and it definitely opened my ears and nothing sounded quite like it and still does not..lol.. Only have a few obscure titles i rarely see them here..i wish the book that came with the recent box set was sold as a stand alone item would love to read that. Amos is indeed a good mate and took care of you for sure. You already know the Watanabe is a fave here and that shaw is definitely not an easy or cheap catch in any pressing as well as being a bang on classic! As per usual an excellent musical travelogue of your week brother..much love chris
