I recently heard a fellow at a gunshop telling another customer how unreliable revolvers are and why he shouldn't buy one. I asked him why he thought that. He said he saw a video about it and how he wouldn't buy junk like revolvers. I explained why he was incorrect, as did one of the guys behind the counter. He wouldn't hear any different. Every once in a while, you run into an idiot but i didn't realize that the idea that revolvers being unreliable was spreading around enough for you to make a video about it. Weird.

Revolvers such as the GP100 were designed to be service revolvers and to digest a stead diet of hot 357 magnum loads. They are very hard to break. Even my light weight S&W642 has been shot so much the rifling is almost entirely gone and it still shoots fine. Replacing the guts of a revolver is also very simple if you know how. Try replacing a sear pack on a CZ 75 and you'll know what difficult really is.

The thing about revolvers is that they revolve. Before revolvers, hand guns did not revolve, so revolvers were a revolution. So the revolver has a cylinder that revolves, so that when that cylinder revolves, the revolver cylinder is unburdened by the past of a unburdened cylinder in the revolver. This revolution is cylindrical, because revolutions come in cycles; which means that this cycle is revolutionary. Final edit.

Wheelguns for the win! WHile it's true that on the *INCREDIBLY RARE* occasion that a wheelgun goes tango-uniform, it usually requires a visit to mr. Gunsmith, it's so unusual that I can't recall the last time it happened, either to me, or anyone I know. My 1959-ish S&W Model 15 -1is still going strong. Its "big brother", a Model 19-2, is almost as old, and runs just as well. The worst problem I've had from either of them over the years I've had them has been a high-primer that wouldn't let the cylinder close on the Model 15. The cure involved plucking that round out and dumping it in the "duds" can, then continuing my range session.

As a hand loader and bullet caster I have found that it is very hard to load ammo for a revolver that will not function as long as you can put it in the chamber and rotate the cylinder all of the way around. Unless you forgot to put powder in the casing it will shoot. I cannot say that about any of my semi-autos. As for the number of rounds-I find I can miss more and faster with the semi than with my wheel guns.

I read it in the 1977 or 1978 issue of Guns and Ammo, in an article about self defense showcasing a 1911 in 45acp against a Charter Arm Bulldog in 44spl. They clearly preferred the 1911, but weren't too harsh on the revolver. They did write that the Charter Arms was rough and really needed polishing and tuning of the action by a gunsmith to be functional

No way, primer failure is the biggest issue and revolvers handle that effortlessly. And great bullet profiles won't even start to feed in autos.

My biggest gripe is when people talk about revolvers being out of time and act like its the end of the world. Literally any gun owner that is, even in the slightest, mechanically inclined, can fix it if they took to the time. Take apart a couple common single and double actions. They're stupid simple! PS: As an avid cowboy action shooter for 5 years, 99% of the time there is a problem with a revolver, its ammo related. Usually, overall length is too long or a high primer.

I've had my Taurus 689 for nearly 40 years. I've shot untold thousands of full power 357 magnums through it over its lifetime. I have never had any problems with it going bang when I squeezed the trigger. And the bullets always have gone the direction the gun was pointed. The rifling is still good the lockup is solid. Hell, even the bluing is in good shape. Anybody who says revolvers aren't reliable is someone you should never listen to or take advice from.
@richardkluesek43013 күн бұрын
When routinely cleaning always check the sideplate screws and the ejector rod are secured, and on S&W and clones that the thumbpiece cylinder release screw is tight. Sideplates will be visibly separating and screw heads protruding if loosening. For there to be problems developing a lot of trigger time and rounds downrange have to have passed. Pay attention.

I’d like to see a head to head test between a semi auto and a wheel gun where they go through firing thousand rounds each without any stoppage. Then a sand and a mud test then both fired at targets. That should answer the question and put the question to rest.

Been shooting revolvers for half a century plus.... a lot... one failure I had was a Ruger SBH 44 mag. The tranfer bar shattered... with my knife (I was out in the field I cut a strip or two from a Coors can that oddly I happened to have....jammed it down into the space between firing pin and hammer and was back in business ... good enough anyway. One account of Wesley Harden had him shooting three Mexicans with a Colt that had an obvious bolt/trigger spring break... he had to hold the cylinder into positon. to fire. Obviously the person starting the rumor about revolvers ..........is... either a glock owner or a democrat voting for harris or most likely ......both.

I do not like revolvers and rarely shoot them. I don’t own any. But they have legitimate pros 1 - 99.9999% of the time they’re going to work fine 2 - The manual of arms is simpler to explain to a new shooter 3 - if you have a misfire you don’t have drop a mag and rack the slide then reinsert mag and rack again. Just pull the trigger again to advance to the next cartridge They also have cons 1 - limited capacity compared to semi auto 2 - in the highly unlikely case a revolver does malfunction you are likely out of the game and probably will have to have a gunsmith have a look at it.

My question is if they are so unreliable why do they make them? There is a group for some time that wants revolvers to just go away fanboys of auto loaders . Why do you "need" 10 or 17 rounds to defend yourself Do you plan on getting into a gun fight like in combat hell if that's the case give me a rifle If you are carrying one for self defense chances are you're going to be less than 7yds apart The bad guy is going to be running his or her ass off hoping not to catch a bullet beside with an auto loader these a manual of arms to clear a jam with a revolver no bang pull trigger again it goes boom you don't need to come off target
