Nice video Igor - thanks! Is there any information about resolution? Like, the minimum feature (in mm) that this type of scanner is capable of detecting? Yeah, the tilting axis should be at least in the same as the base

I don't remember, but there is a review about Mini separatly. This video was only about the turntable. But from all tested scanners, this one can scan the smallest objects. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJWWnqewoLSqp6s

12:10 I think it’s still good for people how want to scan a lot of similar size parts in one go. With the table you don’t have to tilt the scanner each time. Less manual labor.

Does the device have to do "less scanning" because it angles the bed and is then a bit quicker? Or does it just give better results for the same time used to scan?
@Todestelzer

It will automate the process. You have less work to do and can it let scan automatically.

I purchased this scanner a few weeks ago. It does not work well at all. I have tried many of the techniques suggested and still cannot get a good scan with the items I want to scan. It does well on the sample bust. I believe the the cause is the firmware and the post scan software. I want a simple solution, not one that takes hours to get a mediocre output. Do not buy.

I agree. Does not work well. I purchased one a week or two ago and even purchased the scanning sprays to help but mine kept losing tracking or would create an object that was nothing like the original. I returned it!

There must be a way to scan bright object with this scanner without painting the parts white, thank you for a great review

Yes, with increased brightness in scanner software but the results are crap

@@BrickBazooka I mean projecting a white source into the part, sounds crazy , but maybe worth to look at...

@mariano diaz their are scanning sprays that makes the objects white and then vanishes, but it's messy anyway and you can't handle the object anymore. To me these scanners can only scan white matte sculptures at best

Will you check out the Einstar from Shining3D? It's the first device from a high-end company that is obtainable by hobbyists (1000USD)

I tested it. Very good for big parts. But not good for reverse engineering or parts smaller than 15cm. Scanning a PS4 controller was possible but the scanner is build for bigger parts. The accuracy was around 0.1-0.2mm with 0.2 scanning resolution. 0.1mm scanning resolution mode didn’t work for me at all.

@@Todestelzer thanks for your inside! How did you test scanning the PS4 Controller? Handheld or on a rotary table? I heard it's usable with a table. I myself looking for a scanner for everything from reverse engineering (about 10x10x10 cm; hobbyist level, no real accuracy needed) to getting the environment in cad for better awareness and sense of scale (think wheelchair) but also bigger things like humans. I could see the 0.1mm be problematic if the computer is not up for the task, or what do you mean exactly with "didn´t work"? I had a revopoint pop2 for a week but I had to return it because of and defect and now I'm thinking about getting the revopoint mini or the Einstar.

@@SteffenBauer 0.1mm small object mode didn’t scanned the object (PS4 controller, Drill battery pack) for me. In 0.2mm mid to large part mode it picked up the part I wanted to scan. But the mesh I got was not really good. I used scan spray, Dotted surface/Turn table (Turntable does not work well with Einstar on a tripod. You get horizontal lines in the scan) as well. The Revopoint Mini is only for parts around 5cm and smaller. Using it for bigger parts like a PS4 controller it is losing accuracy but it works. (You will need feature targets for tracking!) I would suggest a Revopoint Pop 2 or a Einscan SE/SP for reverse engineering. I bought the Shining SP because of accuracy, scanning modes (Automatic turntable and alignment), scan volume and I’m happy with it so far. Im getting max 0.05mm or less deviation from the actual part. With the SP I got a Solid Edge license as well. You can get it for free as a community edition but I think the CE comes with some restrictions. Scanned a battery cover from a remote controller and printed it without retouching. It fits perfectly. I haven’t tested scanning bigger parts/surfaces with the tripod yet. So my suggestion is to get the Einscan SE/SP or the Revopoint Pop2. Pop2 hardware is good but the software is lacking compared to the Einscan. Not sure you can scan a human with the Einscan but a face should be possible.

@@Todestelzer thanks for your detailed write-up! I think i have seen the horizontal lines mentioned in a shining3d tutorial video where they recommend a clean and blacked out environment to combat them. The Einscan is advertised with full body scans, so that should work. I guess ill wait until February as the Einscan is just a month old and all test so far are from partners on release. I guess I could go with the revopoint mini or shining3d SE/SP and use a iPhone's LIDAR for bigger stuff and not so accuracy dependent things.

@@SteffenBauer Revopoint will have their new Range scanner on Kickstarter at the end of the month. It'll be for large items like furniture, vehicles, etc. They will probably have the other scanners at a huge discount as add-ons. When I backed the Mini Premium at 47℅ off I was able to add the POP2 Premium at 20% off. Just a heads up 😉 Edit: After I wrote this Revopoint sent out emails saying they were going to wait to reveal/release the new scanner for large surfaces. Just thought I would share this update.
Is the Creality CR-Scan Otter the new King of 3D scanning??? Watch and find out!
